Great vid, I tried this myself...but I have iTunes vers. 10.5.2.11 and when I double click to try and open the copy ringtone, it doesn't play at all in iTunes. So...we have to open up "ringtone library" manually right.

I've open it and that is not Ringtone , it just Tones. (this not important)

i added my .m4r file to my Tones library,it shows but.....the .m4r is not in my device

i go back to iTunes n click File>Sync“Blahblah's iPhone"

It didnt show either.

Rather than change the original's file name from m4a to m4r, you may also right click on the file, select "copy," (than paste) then you can change the copies extension, leaving the original intact. Then you simply double click the m4r version, and it opens in i-Tunes as a tone.

Having trouble with this with iTunes 10 and Iphone 4S. I did everything and there is a file for ringtones in iTunes, the tones are there and I sync them but then the iPhone loads them up as songs instead of ringtones (in iTunes they description of the file says it is a ringtone). So they don't show up when I go to change the ringtone and instead they are in my music library on the phone. Perhaps this method doesn't work on the 4s.

@notben1 i had the same problem but fixed it by doing two things. not sure which one done it.

First i shortened the name, secondly i right clicked on the ringtone in my library and clicked get info and deleted every bit of info about it apart from its title, then re-added it to my phone. hope this helps

@notben1 i think i have the same problem, but with my 3gs. I tried to make a ringtone, it listed it as a ringtone but it shows up on my phone as a song in music and now i can't get rid of it. So i now have two versions of yonkers by tyler the creator on my phone, one being only 16 seconds long, i've deleted all the ringtones and that song (the downloaded it again) but it's still there, does anyone know how i get rid of it? @hegotaspare I had the same problem but I just fixed it. I realized my default CD import settings (under preferences) was set to 'MP3 Encoder'. Switch it to 'AAC Encoder' and it will give you the option to 'Create AAC' version of any of your songs.
