@lombard605 Yes she is beautiful as Mariko. I hate to say, she has recently done a couple of adult films sometime last year at the age of 58 or 59. It broke my heart to hear about that. I heard she developed a gambling problem and alcohol. I will always remember her as Mariko.

@lombard605 Trust me, I did not want to believe it myself.  I did research which at times I wish I didn't do. Read my comment on the "Shogun - Mariko Tribute" 5:20 to see what she meant to me. I still love Yoko/Mariko. I watch the Shogun DVD once a week mainly study her acting in that mini-series which is the best acting by an actress I have ever seen. I see why she won a Golden Globe award for best actress. The Acting was impeccable. I will always remember her as Mariko.

Gracias mil por subir éste tema!!!, desde siempre he admirado y honrado la cultura e historia japonesa, cuando se publicó Shogún "devoré" el libro y aunque han pasado muchos años lo he releído varias veces, es apasionante. La serie televisiva estuvo excelentemente adaptada al libro, y Yoko Shimada impecable, lástima que Mariko-san tuviese tan trágico destino...epítome de una Dama samurai... arigato goziemashita Mariko - sama!!

yo vi esta serie en 1983 y realmente mariko san (yoko shimada) es la japonesa mas preciosa que he visto. le agradeceria si alguien me pudiera decir donde puedo volver a ver esta serie.

I read up on william adams(the guy this is based on),,,,he was a bad selfish man responsible for the death of thousands of catholics....

It was the time of the reformation and the counter reformation and he brought his politics with him,,he poisened the shogun against the jesuits and tried to have them expelled..

All the christians that were bundled together and set on fire were all down to him.
