Can you do the first part of 'Sonic Spinball' for the Genesis blind, but after the first part you can look it up or practise it to your will. It's not a stunningly hard game or anything, it's just different to normal sonic games.
Sonic 3D on the Saturn had a map screen before Sonic Adventure did. But then not many people ever played Sonic 3D on the Saturn. :P
As simple as the Master System game is, it's interesting to see the different techniques people use, especially on this boss. I used to hop onto the islands and jump to avoid Robotnik's shots. My brother showed me that you can duck on the centre island to avoid them, which is a lot easier (providing you don't roll off). But your method is definitely the quickest.
Your whole evil energy theory doesn't make a lick of sense. They had "evil" energy back when Chaos first controlled them back in the "Past" events in Sonic Adventure, long before Sonic was even born chronologically. The Chaos Emeralds colors [and number of them] has always just been more of a goof in the continuity. The colors aren't even consistent between games.
