  • Thank you for posting this. Wonderful to see the different cast members. Love this program. It's very very addictive.

  • Thanks I wonder what happened to some of the cast? I enjoy the show.

  • I can't find any clips featuring Ivy's nephew, I think he was called Crusher, does anyone know which episodes he appeared in?

  • Thank you for this lovely tribute to my all-time favorite show. I own the first 20 years on DVD, and hope the BBC puts out the remaining episodes. As I watched your slides, I felt like I was looking at the photos of long-time friends. Just hearing the theme song always makes me feel better. THANK YOU.

  • @manncaro Well said :)

  • I used to watch this show with my father when I was a very little girl, and we visited the location it was filmed when I was younger. The song brings me back.

  • I really miss this, I used to watch it every weekend with my parents and it became a show we didn't really ever miss. (a must show) alot like all the classic game shows which have sadly disappeared.

I'm 24 and I've always loved it, nothing was consistently funny as this was and the theme tune reminds me of my grandparents. It's a shame the writers couldn't keep working at it, i'm sure diehard fans would agree it was the scripts that became weak and not the actor/actresses becoming too old.

  • One of my favorite shows of all time. I do not get to catch the show as much but it is still on PBS. Every so often I will be blessed with an opportunity to watch a episode and it never disappoints. Rip Bill Owen, one of the funnest individuals to be produced in Britain.

  • @Unlikely13 the show went of the air last Aug. Its sad that the show was cancelled after so many years but it passed the peak awhile before.

  • I am 15 years of age, and I'm proud to say I am one of the younger people who have always preferred this type of television over the crap we have today.

  • Such a loving tribute. I've only seen a few seasons of this series, but it's absolutely one of my favorites. My wife and I were both in tears when Compo died. When did the series end?

  • Bristish comedy at it's best, if today's writers could entertain us in the same way the country would feel a happier place to live.

May Compo and co remain in our minds and make us smile for ever.

  • compo was the best character in this... these wernt as good after compo died it was way better when he was init :)

  • this was my grandapa's funeral music i listen to it know and still cry i miss you grandpa live is the most hardest thing without you i miss the chat's and game of chess we had you are one of a kind my role model R.I.P grandpa i miss you always and always and always

  • My granddad loved this show. We played the theme tune at his funeral as it was what he wanted. The theme had never seemed so moving to me up until that point. RIP grandddad I miss you

  • i like the last of the summer wine and im only 11 ya can watch repeats on watch in school hours just skip school!!!!!

  • I have major roots with this program. As a boy in England circa 78 I watched this on daytime TV. It was like happy food, a comedy about nothing, no doubt Seinfeld drew inspiration. One Christmas I was given a harmonica and this theme was the first tune I found on it. I performed it at a school function and went on to tour for 8 years in a blues band and record as a harp player. I downloaded the full series and watch it with a smile. Sorry indeed to see it go.

    'Christopher Lloyd-Baron'

  • I didn't think anybody would troll this video, but I think the Justin Beiber videos are at max troll capacity right now, and we're getting the overflow.

  • Awwwww.... now watch 'Summer Wine Women' ....

  • aww what happend to smiler he shoudla been in that

  • Thank you LOSW for bringing us a bit of joy to all our lives. Rest in peace to all the cast who have passed on, you will always be remembered by a smile.

  • Here, Here! A Toast! With The Last of The Summer Wine!!

  • It's all over now.

    So sad really.

It's a very uplifting sort of comedy, very sort of fell good...!

  • Nice one ......

  • Of course it had to come to an end,,,, people do die, you know! But what a run! So many of us can't appreciate the sort of humor and good script-writing that this show was made of. A true gift.

  • it was not that it made you laugh really hard every 5 seconds but the way in which the show happens and the way in which it makes you laugh is different to any othere comedy when you watch it , it feels you with a warm feeling and makes you feel calm and happy and you really connect to the caracters. and to be hounest it was over when compo died he was really the core of the show and the show was at its best with compo, cleggy and foggy.

  • Thank God this unfunny crap is finally coming to an end. Tom Owen is probably the worst actor ever.

  • @JuanMacready fuck off last of the summer wine is great and really funny

  • @TheEddiejones15 No it's fucking crap and I hope Peter Sallis and Frank Thornton both die very soon.

  • @JuanMacready would something thats crap be the longest running sitcom in the world? dumbass if you disagree you have no idea what real comedy is

  • @TheEddiejones15 It's only because old people like my grandparents watch it and Diagnosis Murder. They should put something decent on a Sunday afternoon.

  • @JuanMacready i watch it and think its great! just cause its a old show does not mean that just old people watch it!

  • @TheEddiejones15 Well, it's all over now.

  • @JuanMacready wow......................

  • Thank God that Last Of The Summer Wine is canceled. An awful show that promoted sexual harassment. Look at how often Compo would chase after and touch up Nora Batty! Are you telling me he wouldn't have tried to do her up the wrong 'un if he was smacked up on Tetley's Bitter? Give over!

  • @drepmore

This viewer needs to find some perspective! Good comedy always finds a foible and runs with it! If we can't laugh at ourselves, then we are poor indeed!

  • See ya LOTSW

  • Great, mate!

  • "I used to roam some of these fields when I was a Kid."

  • that was beaufiful scenery at the start, love the little creek there. thanks for sharing this chaz, love the music too, very pretty. :-)

  • i enjoyed this slideshow. thanks

  • Great video! I was glad to see Sid and Wally because it seems like people tend to forget them. Thanks again!

    -samwise

  • Loved this show and watched over many years.

  • Can't play on itouch. What's. Your point???

  • If you ever update this then you need to add Ivy's Newphew "Crusher" and remove the present from Nora Batty and Edie Pegden and add the new Woman who moved into Nora Batty's house in i think 2008/09

  • what buetiful music

  • best comedy ever.

  • @zufgh No it isn't. It's a steaming pile of shit that's about as funny as cancer.

I wish we had the technology to stricken this program from history. It isn't funny. If you think otherwise then you're a spacker with no sense of humour.

  • @drepmore Actually, In the past 7 months I've retracted my opinion and agree that it is far from the best comedy. However it 'is' funny and i'm not a spacker for thinking it, what's your favourite comedy ever, shit-head ?

  • This is one of my favourite sitcoms of all time!

  • Thank you so much, from a bloke in Canada.

  • What about Smiler?

  • Perfect! :D

  • my grandad funeral song

  • Eli the short sighted bloke was the funniest character ever......

  • it's a shame it may be going.while you're at it check another senior doing his thing.check out gypwin

  • i did like that last of the summer wine

i seen tv klru-dt 18 austin every saturday

  • Can't believe it got cancelled. :'(

  • There was a new episode at Christmas 2008 "I was a Hitman for Primrose Dairies"

  • In my local Yorkshire newspaper there was a big article about how they were making no more.

  • it didnt

  • I'm not arguing with you. It did. There was a special 3 page article about in the Huddersfield Daily Examiner. Sorry but it's true.

  • I´ve read they were going on, BBC had denied that Summer Wine was axed. I hope so! I´m just a German fan (thanks to youtube anything is possible), but I´m nevertheless a big fan by now and I´m meeting Peter Sallis in a few weeks. Perhaps I should ask him ;-).

And I love this video, but it also made me sad. Beautiful music!

  • lovely show.check out what the old 'uns can do.check out 'gypwin' or gentleman john on you tube

  • Farewell Nora your now up in heaven,

    P.S.

Watch out for Compo up there......

    RIP Kathy...

  • Normally, I don't care for slideshows but I really enjoyed this one. It told me things I didn't know and brought back memories of the things I do. Thanks for putting in the time. We LSW fans appreciate it.

  • Last of the Summer Wine is one of the best British comedy shows ever to come on tv. Man, my eyes were moist as I saw this clip. Thank You.

  • You sure have a problem. You don't like a TV show, fine. You know how to change the channel. Millions of people do like it, who are you to deny them their pleasure?

  • I dont even watch the show, i just watch this for the music.

  • omg this is the best show EVER!! i went for a long time w/ out watching it and after a few months i started to watch one of the episodes and i started crying listenin to the openin music and seein all the characters that i now love. by the way, im an american teenager so if i can LOVE this than anyone can. highly recommed this show.

  • Oh! Well, many thanks for your erudite comments. If you need any help with the removal of your family vegetables, please drop me a line as I have performed this task many times, Also you appear very much to be in a minority as just about everyone that comments, really love the show. It must be strange being right and everyone one else wrong!

  • drepmore, feel free to start chopping anytime you feel the need, and let the rest of us with a more refined sense of humour enjoy. It's the longest running comedy series anywhere in the world, and we love it.

  • I love the scene where Marina dips Cleggy back and kisses him passionately after which he says "I bet you don't ever have to peel an orange"! hahaha

  • Came by this by accident, brought a tear and a throat lump. Absolutely the best ever sit com show British TV has ever broadcast. Apparently sold all over the world (well most of it). All my family used to watch this after the Sunday roast and Antiques Road show, , , happy days!!

  • absolutely brilliant, I am a lifelong massive fan, been to holmfirth, really beautiful place, and i have every episode that can be got, also i have the danbury mint figureen collection of all the cast, my very own shrine to," Last of the summer wine".

  • I hope one day to visit Holmfirth while they are filming. Would love to see, in person, the characters, especially Howard! He's such a devil and a delight. What a sweet show. The music is wonderful.

  • thank you so much for this. the show is truly the best! i love all the characters!

  • Eli was the best ever, he was so funny always nearly walking into stuff.

  • BEST COMEDY ever

  • what!?

  • nothing

  • This music always gets to me. So gentile and calming :)

    Great vid mate, well done.

  • Yes, the music for some reason brings tears to my eyes...

  • Also, is anyone else reminded of Garrison Keillor's Lake Woebegon Days when they watch this show? Probably just me...

  • What a great series! My favorite has always been Clegg. I look forward to Saturday nights, partly because of this show. Thank you for adding this video, to clear up some questions I've had for a while.

  • Thank you for posting. What a sweet show and cast. The theme music is the sweetest melody I've ever heard. All the characters through the years have been wonderful. My absolute favorite, though, is Howard. I would love to meet him!!!!!!! I hope they continue showing it on public TV in Nashville....what a real treat! :)

  • They are just showing a 12 part brand new series on the BBC in the UK, so who knows? Every time people say that's the end, Roy Clarke & Alan Bell give us a new series.

  • Where is Smiler???

  • Billy Hardcastle has left the show and Clegg's role has decreased significantly, although he's still there. Everyone else is still cayying on as usual to the best of my knowledge.

  • With the exception of Edie who han;t been in the show for at least four years. What with Thora Hird being dead. The only glaring exception was Wesley, but I may have missed his slide. Still, very nice.

  • Thora Hird passed away a few years ago, but other than that you're correct. Was there a slide for Wesley Pegden or did I just miss it?

  • Wesley is near the end.

  • Ah, yes. So he is. It's almost a shame that at the end when you show that slide of the hillside there isn't a caption that says Holmfirth - 1973 to present as the landscape is almost a character in itself.

  • yes, I watch in Nashville too. At first when they took off "Are you being Served" I was disappointed, but soon got to like LOTSW and now really dig it. I miss Compo though.

Thanks johnmartin1097 for this post so I can brush up on the characters.

  • Good complilation, though I didn't see 'Crusher' or Milburn as he was called by his aunty Ivy.

  • Very nice - thanks. Well produced - I really enjoyed it.

  • Good video. I was only after the tune and I found the video moving. 5 stars.

  • Why did Barry have a break?

  • hw was doing another series which i dont know

but glad he came back =]

  • I thought Sid was in it right up to and including the 1988 Christmas Special

  • his last episode was Getting Sam Homw which was the 1983 special.

he had throat cancer and another actor dubbed his voice

  • Thanx for that,I must have had a senior moment!!I believe the "dubber" was Tony Melody.

  • ur thinking of Wally Batty played by Joe Gladwin

his last episode was Merry Christmas, Father Christmas. the 1988 special

  • i dont think i eli

althoug he didnt say much, his physiacl actions were outragious

he was 92 when he was still in lotsw

    brill anyway, keep it up!!!

  • RIP all the cast of the past. I feel sorry for Peter Sallis, he's had to watch as all his friends and co-stars around him died off one by one.. it's very sad indeed.

  • @tommytoxen But as some small consolation, Peter Sallis has actually attended the Oscars and been shown in the audience on American TV. As the voice of Wallace in those Wallace & Grommit shorts/feature films, a few years ago when it won best animated film. I'm thinking he's the only Last of the Summer Wine cast member who's actually attended the Oscars and been shown in that audience, as a part of the Aardman entourage.

  • brilliant

    just pure class

thankyou Roy Clarke for giving us laughter

  • great memories of this show, love the slideshow

  • Brilliant slide show showing all the characters of this brilliant comedy series. I've favourited this. This is where all the old decrepit actors go when no-one else will employ them. Even Burt Kwok the ching chung china man.

  • may i add my dear friend who was one of the bobby,s for some time tony capstic... thankyou great stuff...

  • Sad to hear the news but I've been laughing my head off for the past two hours watching 'the trio' on YouTube.

Lets hope the whole cast lives on for many many mores years on sites like this.

  • rip foggy who died to day aged 80

  • Comment removed

  • Fantastic tribute to most of the stars of this great show. Did I miss Crusher & Smiler? LOL. Just kidding. First rate.

  • Last of the Summer Wine is the best comedy on earth.

RIP Bill Owen, Joe Gladwin, John Comer and Michael Bates/Aldridge.

    true poets to the show

and RIP Ronnie Hazelhurst who wrote the music

  • That was great... thanks so much... it almost made me tear up. I love this show so much... but cant get it anywhere... thanks.. and wow did marina look good when she started. : )

  • Compo, Clegg and Foggy!! :)) haha and Nora Batty..

  • What a Classic this Series is.

  • I love this series!!! This is a wonderful slide show.
