Dr.Jeffrey Ojemann Saved my life, if he didn't take out my deformed right hippocampus I would have turned into a vegetable. Due to this man's hard work I've been seizure free for 3 years.
I finished 4 years in Nursing - this month I started my first year of 5 in Medicine and surgery + I have 1 year of internship to go and maybe 6-7 years of residency in neurosurgery. My friends keep telling me you will grow old by the time u become a neurosurgeon.. I don't care - I have the passion and luv to become neurosurgeon.l I am only 23 years old now
@ibukurkristi These people who have turned medicine into a money powerhouse are the reason for the cutting edge treatments we can offer today. The United States of America is one of the few countries with private health care. And because of this a huge percentage of the medical advances are made because of the profit it produces. So next time you need an MRI or CAT or some brand new treatment thank those rotting in hell.
@tim9355 Yes. Just like NASA now being scrapped and replaced by private enterprises whose only intention is to send millionaires to space. Is that your America? Is that your creative destruction? You see, some physicists/biologists/doctors do not work in their labs to find new ways to earn revenues, Tim. It's a motivation drive for a better world that makes them do what they do not the earning extra 0's in their bank accounts.
@ibukurkristi You can also say that those who are naive enough to think that they can get into hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt from a medical education, and not even think about the potential monetary benefits are fools, and deserve to be that deep in debt if that is the case. Money is a part of life. Unless the government decides that a medical education should be free for whomever decides to pursue it, knowing full well the challenges and hardships ahead, money WILL be a factor.
With the amount of work in the field of neurosurgery, do you ever have any time for yourself and family? What are the hours like in terms of flexibility and hours per week? Is the job woth the sacrifice? What do you think.....?
@eminem407 study hard, work hard and master as much passion as you can inspire...oh and absolutely LOOOve what you do; that's the tickect to becoming a neurosurgeon.
I've read somewhere that there are really few neurosurgeons in the world as it is one of the hardest jobs in medicine. Aprox. rokie neurosurgeon works 80 hours per week, while those seniours that are 10+ years in that job work 60 hours per week, hence if u work 5 days per week everyday u work 16hours while 8 hours sleep. Extremly hard and risky job as billion things can go wrong, hence it is payed really good.
You can make the same income as a family physician if you work over 80 hours a week.
NeuroSurgery is very difficult and during residency, only the strongest survive,it's even common to see students switch to another residency because they find it WAY too difficult and demanding. The rewards are great though, but make sure you're motivated and love it before attending it.
that is a long time but by the time you get out and start working you will be rich both financially and you we feel so wonderful that you are saving someones life everyday. There is no better field to go into than medicine and there is no better occupation than that of a neurosurgeon.
With that attitude "start working you will be rich " good luck in getting into med school. You know who become doctor's? The people that less expect themselves to be doctors.
@supercork with all respect, neurosurgery is a profession in which you do the job not for the money but the people, but if your considering i wish u the best of luck
@KidsStayClean Before you say that, realize that these people have sacrificed, for the most part, their 20's and 30's. Physician salary certainly isn't the determining reason as to why somebody may want to go into medicine, but it sure as hell plays a vital role in making these decisions. Medical school debt is on the rise, and the health care reform isn't helping those who wish to go into lesser paying fields like primary care. But in Neurosurgery, I'd want to have decent pay for those years.
