My husband and I found this taping/video and the whole story-family of Kyu Sakamoto about 10 years ago..We put in out to play when we wanted to listen to it and the whole family's story
No hard feelings, but it doesn't matter who plays it when- just so it stays played...Love philillie.
@philillie Your copy wouldn't have the stereo audio attached to it, unless your husband was one of the people I sent my original video to. The video itself has (quite obviously) been around since 1963 and who knows when it actually made it into the digital world....
@philillie I created this video in 2006. Back when I created it I had a different youtube name (actually I have about four different names that I use now, this one is used for just random stuff), and that account was shut down because of strikes I had on 3 videos...had it not been shut down who knows how many millions of views the video might have had by now, it was this exact stereo synced audio video as well.
Sharp sound, I like this very much. For some who might be interested in listening/seeing another performance, there is a nice video of the three-year memorial concert for the singer, Kyu Sakamoto's passing, the composer himself plays piano very nicely, accompanied by two Japanese very popular male vocal quartets, Dark Ducks and Duke Aces, in 1978. Check it.
@picollabambina77 Happiness lies beyond the clouds Happiness lies above the sky I look up when I walk so the tears won't fall Though my heart is filled with sorrow For tonight I'm all alone Remembering those happy autumn days But tonight I'm all alone Sadness hides in the shadow of the stars Sadness lurks in the shadow of the moon I look up when I walk so the tears won't fall Though my heart is filled with sorrow For tonight I'm all alone
It all won't fit, but you get the idea; I look up when I walk So the tears won't fall Remembering those happy spring days But tonight I'm all alone I look up when I walk Counting the stars with tearful eyes Remembering those happy summer days But tonight I'm all alone Happiness lies beyond the clouds Happiness lies above the sky I look up when I walk So the tears won't fall Though my heart is filled with sorrow Remembering those happy autumn days But tonight I'm all alone
Sukiyaki is actually the name of a japanese meat dish. It was named this way by an american who liked it and asked some artist in US to make a cover (or what's it called) and named that Sukiyaki (he loved that dish).
If this is sung by Kyu Sakamoto then it should be the original version that is named "Ue o Muite Arukou" which I think means "I look up when I walk".
@VomicaEmanio You're correct. The song is about a man who keeps looking up and whistling so his tears won't fall. Sad! From Wikipedia: "The title Sukiyaki, a Japanese hot pot dish, has nothing to do with the lyrics or the meaning of the song; the word served the purpose only because it was short, catchy, recognizably Japanese, and more familiar to most English speakers. A Newsweek columnist noted that the re-titling was like issuing "Moon River" in Japan under the title 'Beef Stew.'"
awesome tune,im trying to find another oldie.its a piano instrumental,im guessing it was played just a few times back around 1973 or so.i would say its a lively cross between ragtime and boogie.i was going through some old cassettes i recorded off the radio and found the last 19 seconds of this great little number.im hoping somebody can help me find the title with the little info i have.thanks!!
Slacker, whoever you are.... I love you for re-posting this! And the Copyright Police should be ashamed of themselves for attempting to deny us the opportunity to see this vintage video of wonderful Kyu-chan smiling radiantly as he sings his heart out. Arigatou, arigatou, arigatou! ♥♥♥
I was six when my family returned to the USA after three years in Japan. 1963 was the year and this song followed me across the sea and was a number one hit here. "The Sukiyaki song" it was called. Sadly Kyu Sakamoto perished in a tragic plane crash in 1985.
@SundayHeppner I had the video sent to me by a friend, i dont know where they got it..... they told me a story about getting it from a network insider who had it since the 60s, but i dont believe it.... the audio on the video was fair to poor, i had a good sounding track for the audio on cd, so i took it and carefully synced it up to the audio from the old video and then i saved the video... this was several years ago, i only finally got around to uploading it.
@slackerproductions very good job sir ,i bought this45 the day it was available in u.s.a. always loved it my stepdad taught me the words in jpn. yours is too cool roger here

When Kyu Sakamoto's plane was going down, he wrote a goodbye letter to his wife. Very sad and courageous.
