Actually, you most certainly can build these in Canada. There are companies building them now. Also, Canada's building codes for unconventional structures are much less restrictive than those in the U.S.
well CANADA is really shit! it you say that you cant build ANYTHING that isent in the 'code'....LAKE OF FREEDOM! totaly, what a shit country, but dont worry alone, there are other countries that has the same kind of STUPID laws, stopping people from using their imagination to build something beautiful, functional and in peace with the environment. the solution? F...K the GOVERNMENT AND DO IT.
You could never build something like this in Canada. You'd never get around the building code police. You can't do anything here. Everything is illegal. I mean EVERYTHING is illegal.
If you are looking for earth bags or super adobe tube rolls, I sell them. I can beat out the prices of calearth by hundreds of dollars saving you mucho bucks. check out my site at wwwdotpropheticseerdotcom... replace the dot with a real . for the website address. blessings
Well, here it is. Two years have gone by since my first comment. Guess what. No part 2 !!!!!!! I have to know what happens! I'll continue to comment every 2 years until you come out with part Two! I must know what happened at The Building Of Eye At The Lake!!!!! Great Caesar,s Ghost!
Yeah. Monolythic domes do kick ass. Despite what many other people have commented, they are ultra energy efficient, will last for many, many times longer than most conventional homes, and will stand up to Mother Nature's best, better than just about anything out there. I'll bet that insurance companies love them. Pretty much fire proof, apart from interior items. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and although I've seen more ornate domes, I'd live in something like this.
One could always finish the exterior with a more decorative finish, as well. Just line it with chain linked fence, shoot another layer of shotcrete, and finish it with brick, stone, rock, whatever. I totally agree with you Monolythic Domes rule and Earthships rule, as well. I've been working on a hybrid between the two, in my mind, for a while.Once I totally decide on the design, I hope to build it someday.
Wow, so have I! I got a drawing of three interconnected domes with a greenhouse botanical area on the south face. I definitely want to live off-grid and it seems an Earthship with a Monolithic dome shell would be almost perfect.
Sounds like that saying that great minds think alike is true. I've also thought about the incorporation of a "botanical area" on the south end. I also wish to live off grid. Totally, so. I don't have land, yet, but I have started looking and I have started thinking about ways to make it happen. I know that everyone has a different taste in housing designs, but I love the way that the domes and Earthships look and come on. They are SO efficient.
Yeah, I'm starting to look for land and areas that don't have any outdated codes or "nimby" issues. I'm actually in the midst of a building retrofit. The next project is clearly the off-grid structure.
Do an internet search for "Monolithic Dome" on the web and pull up one of the websites and it will go into great detail about how they are built, and how energy efficient, safe and long lasting this type of building is.
