you left out a word, it should be "hunting is the shit" XD. jk every1 is entitled to their own opinion, i like hunting because the meat is better than what u buy in supermarkets, had a better life too
Great shot.Pigs are easy,if you know where you are hitting.I have taken 90 Kgs Boars with 22 Lrs just got a 125 kgs boar with my 22 hornet, with a good scope if you are shooting at 125 yrds and using good ammo go for the neck, its a very big target and the best thing is if you hit it its gonna stay if you miss its a clean miss the animal doesnt suffer unlike with a shoulder shot gone wrong where u hit the critter in the gut.I love the 22s they are the best for any thing.Especially the Hornets .
I would say that the 223 is fine for small pigs, there really is not much room for error and projectile choice can see blow ups on the side of the animal. For reliable kills on all sized pigs I would use a larger calibre. I was just carrying this rifle on the day as I was looking for dingoes.
over the years i have shot pigs by the 100s(mostly around Nyngan NSW)/ my calibre of choice is 308(7.62mm) if im under 100m i like my winchester 375 bigbore. 223 is a gamble especially if its a shot through brush and or if the pig is caked with mud. slugs in a shotgun are very effective at short range (my worst was pump shotgun with SGs 8 shots at close range on 7 mud caked pigs(20 metres away) only one died yet i saw all shots hit :( overkill is always better than underkill on piggies IMHO
I aggee with all of what you havs said. I only have one thing to say, I was looking for wild dogs and these oinkers kinda just appeared. What was I to do??You humble oppinion appreciated
god no worries mate only good pig is a dead one . i was out one arvo with a brno 22 hornet (whistling foxes) and managed to shoot a couple of suckers. the famer loved when we shot on his property.. we worked on a scorched eath policy back then where we shot all pigs we came across and still bagged several trophy class heads we used to slice the tip of the snout off 50 cent bounty on them then :)
@russ4570 no worries mate i had a mini 14 (back when they were legal) used 20 round mags on it, was a great fun weapon. yep and used them on pigs, if the first shot didnt work i had 19 more behind it :)
@mfactor88 308 out to 500m my 30/30 is capable out to 300m and 200m easy puts them away. u sound like a gamin fuck if u failed with the shot gun. over kill wont help u if your just crap all together witch sound like u are
if you place the shot correctly you will take a pig out in one shot.
Ive done a 75kg pig in with a 22lr in 3 shots. first two i didnt hit right and they didnt penetrate his thick head skull. the 3rd was a take down. hollow point straight through the back of his ear.
I agree, I have a .22LR for bunnies, a .223 for foxes and long range bunnies and cats, and a .308 for goats horses donkeys pigs deer and the odd Zebra that escapes from a zoo ;-)
Dont shoot a pig with a .223. You have to be very skilful and lucky
nah i disagree with both of you fellas. yeah a .223 probebly isnt the best option cal for pigs but i have read plenty of stories and talked to fellas that have shot pigs with a
.223 and it does the job. just like shooting anything you just have to hit it in the right spot. wether thats a heart/lung or head shot.

artistsandbox 1 year ago
@artistsandbox
Not this time. Wormy. Young suckers are the best.

Ive seen a .17 take down a 87kg pig. Pretty much any centrefire will as long as its a ear shot/head region.
ImDBC 2 years ago
yeah exactly, its all down to a well placed shot. Fellas have killed pigs with .22lr's as well.
