I bought one of thee a few years ago. Took me a bit of fiddling around with the carb and replace OEM spark plug to get it to run. It not a very well built unit and lasted about 48 hrs of operation before it quit generating electricity. Tried calling and ETQ for some help but they don't answer the phone and no answer to my e mail. Maybe their generator doesn't work either.
I can't worry about it; It's a piece of Chinese junk bought for $100
I got what I paid for. Pay a little more & buy USA
@microsciences1 I have at least 70-100 hrs on mine. I ran it for over 10hrs a day for over a week while our power was out after a hurricane. After replacing the spark plug, I have had no other problems. I did remove the muffler because the instructions say to clean the screen. I took it apart but there was no screen and one of the mufler nuts stripped. I made a new gasket and retapped the nut in the muffler and it is fine now.
I have that exact generator and I get it to start fine but I have never got it to put out electricity. I have not clue what to do. I've had it for 3 years and never got it to put out.
I have one of these. I am thinking about setting that throttle higher. I noticed that the voltage output when up when I throttled it higher. Does that cause damage? I was getting 300 volts instead of 240 as rated.
i have this exact same generator.. i detail cars and this little gen powers my 9.8 amp craftsman shop vac ... i like it... but i ordered mine from amazon.com when i got it the spark plug ceramic broke from shipping
These generic gennies are only good for 600-650w continuous, they are rated differently anything from 700w to 1200w (depending how much of a bullshitter the importer is) but the continuous ratings (which is what matters) are only 600-650 like I say... Good machines though, very reliable
how big is your refrigerator?. I have a similar design generator, made by Yangke, and its not able to run my fridge, im refering to a regular size fridge btw. it will run a mini fridge. I also bought mine because of Ike. i had to use an inverter and my car as an "ersatz" generator , but wanted a dedicated unit that would be easy on the gas. unlike the huge generacs and colemans that everyone was running during ike, burning a gallon and hour.
It's a side by side 26 cubic foot. On the inside of mine it says it draws 8.5 amps 8.5amps x 110volts = 935 watts. It probably pulls more than that when the compressor starts.
that's similar to mine. mine is 7amps. then again, my fridge is about 15 years old, older compressor=more surge amps pulled. it does not help that the inverter circuitry in my yangke is quite touchy to overloads. ill be looking for one of these THQ when northern puts them on sale for around $100. id rather have a couple of these little tikes than invest in an expensive and inefficient large generator.
already did on my yangke, all these yamaha clones come with the same horrible chinese spark plug. its good advice for any other potential buyers of same design generators.
after Ike nothing was open. until I could buy the ngk I had to pull the spark plug and clean it every time I shut it off. after I got the ngk no more problems
I just recently bought one, took it out on a shoot with me so I can power my continuous light which is a 1000watt light I had going for about 4 hours, The only thing that sucked was the fuel gauge vibrated loose...
The only prob I've had is in the manual it says to pull the muffler off and clean the screen in the exhaust, When I did one of the bolt broke off in the muffler, had to drill it out, and there wasn't even a screen in the exhaust. i guess they changed the design without changing the manual.
Also, for some reason the stock spark plug didn't last long. I wouldn't start unless I pulled it out and wire brushed it everytime. I replaced it with a ngk and no problems since.
Have you tried to jump start the car with the DC jumpers it comes with? because that would also be another great function of the machine. I have one and love it but, couldn't get the jumper to work. I think I did something wrong.
cool video. what was the code of the spark plug that you replaced the oem one with. cheers

whats the difference between this and the chicago generator?
sbeer6er 5 months ago
@sbeer6er Nothing.
MasterCSX 4 months ago
@sbeer6er They look the same but I think the chicago electric is only rated at 1000 watts.

NBAGOATS 6 months ago
@NBAGOATS The throttle is auto regulated, too much voltage could harm the generator and whatever you are pluging into it.
mjmcomputers 6 months ago
@mjmcomputers Ooops. You're right. I'm confusing volts with wattage.

exactly the same problem i had with an identical generator! Always before startup i had to take out the plug.. damn thing,, sold it for 80 euro's :D

@Beertjjee After I changed the plug to an NGK, I have had no problems.

Looks identical to the ones HarborFreight sells
evm2007 1 year ago
@evm2007 I've noticed that, but for some reason I think the harbor freight one is only 1000 watts. Maybe just a difference in how they rate them.

If you cover the intake with your hand, it should start first or second pull.
ericspda 1 year ago
@ericspda The choke works pretty good, I'll have to see if I can cover the intake without removing the cover.

This clone is sold under various brands all over the world.
Here in Europe they are called Einhell or Ferm.
I've got one since 2005 or so and it still runs like new.If I only could find a quit muffler for it...
Btw,I still use the sparkplug it came with!

When you get one replace the spark plug with an ngk, the original died within a few hours of use.

It probably doesn't put out enough amperage to jump start, but you could hook it up to your battery and let it run and charge up your battery.
