I doubt people who think this is a druggie movie watched it.Sure they do drugs but really its about the death of 60s ideals and there replacement with greed and hedonism.
@Dontmakemecomeover5 Too true, audiences really missed the forest through the trees with this gem. Don't listen to the stoners who say you need to be high to watch it or critics who say its all nonsense, it's about just what you said, the death of the american dream.
Guywidasickle your being too harsh dude, i agree but not in the same way, i know heaps of people who thought they could get enlightment out of drugs and now they are living in their own heads, i dont think thats right personally cause they fucked their good brains. Drugs are good i enjoy them but u shouldnt use them to expand your mind, experience and understanding expand your mind. drugs are for having a fucking good night not to improve your life
Any asshole who thinks acid or mushrooms are anything more than base, lame drugs are idiots. There is no "enlightenment" to be found. Its equally ugly on both sides. There is no "better life", theres is no "american dream". Thats the whole point of the movie.
THE EDGE There is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over. -Hunter S. Thompson-
Well the book just has more detail and actually doesnt play out exactly like the movie , if youv read it you know certain things were displaced time wise in the movie than they actually happned . . but thier both AMAZING and i personally love the movie because of the outstanding performance by johnny depp as hunter . . . its hilarious
Ah dude i TOTALLY agree with you man the book is kick ass and it helps explain many things that the movie does not. At the same time i rather just sit back and watch the movie heh
@tallboySR "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" is one of two books which when I finished it I went right back to the first page and started over again" (the other one being "A Clockwork Orange")... also made into an outsanding film.. even if Kubrick did fuck it all up by leaving the end off.
@Waushara A little bit late but the song is called Expecting to Fly from Neil Young. But this time he's playing with Buffalo Springfield. If you like this version look for Buffalo Springfield - Expecting to Fly.
@Waushara Mr. Tamborine Man by Bob Dylan... pretty easy to regognize to be honest, the book was actually dedicated in part to Bob Dylan for writing the song.
its not bob dylan its neil young

I felt like a monster reincarnation of Horatio Alger... a Man on the Move, and just sick enough to be totally confident
