  • this is fine! epic synth! :)

  • The roots of electroclash may very well be in this song.

  • @Waxthumper - thanks for reminding the old times!

@Chris: Das Vogel-Lied :-) - dies vor der Arbeit, Bullet in your Head nach der Arbeit ...Chears,

    'Schirrmi

  • Merci merci merci ...

  • It's good to know where Blue Monday came from.

  • PS; you guys might like early Human League- check out 'empire state human' and 'being boiled' [see opposite]

  • Glad to see Frank is still converting the music loving public. He will be sorely missed- a complete original and the sound behind many of the electronic bands of the 80's. Check out the "Mute" back catalogue for more of the same.

  • Wow! YT never ceases to amaze me. Was surfing around today and suddenly thought about this record, which I have on a tape from 1981 somewhere. Decided to see if it was uploaded and HERE IT IS!!

Fantastic 'new wave' song, and to think he did all this in his bedroom. Incredible track, sounds good even today - in fact it sounds even better than most of the crap around today. Play on headphones for maximum 'whooping' effect! Thanks for uploading, Waxthumper, you're a YT star.

  • Rocks like a mf. Frank kicked ass

  • This song was one of the most original songs ever recorded. The use of the variable-speed Low Frequency Oscillator, moving from the slow "whooping" sound to hi-speed oscillation makes it absolutely unique. The constant droning noise generator fills out the sound superbly, and the tongue-in-cheek lyrics are superb ... especially when it goes from the lovely green-tinged "back to nature" to the darkly hostile "TURN MY back to nature". Fadgadget's finest song, and it should be better known.

  • @MartinInBC Totally agree. What happened to Fad Gadget, is he still around? I bet HE was never in a boy band!

  • @UKRod Fad Gadget, under his original name Frank Tovey, had a very successful European tour in 2002. After it, in the peak of fitness and working on an album of new material, he had a heart attack at his London home, and died aged only 45.

  • @MartinInBC I am so sad to hear that, Martin, what a sad loss. I was first introduced to Frank's work in the early 80s when a young German babysitter used to use my stack stereo system to record things on tape from my collection and he often left me things he liked on tapes. This was during the post-punk 'New Wave' era e.g Siouxsie, OMD, Bauhaus, Heaven 17 etc. One of the tracks he left me one night was 'Back to Nature' which blew me away. Ordered today from Amazon - 'Best of Fad Gadget!'

  • @UKRod I started with a 7" of Ricky's Hand, which I bought on spec for 98c in a secondhand store in Sydney. Had never heard of Fad Gadget. Now (just checking) I have albums Fireside Favourites, Gag, Under The Flag, The Fad Gadget Singles plus RIcky's Hand and Back To Nature 7" singles; plus albums released as Frank Tovey: Tyranny And The Hired Hand, and Snakes And Ladders, plus 12" singles of Luddite Joe and Sam Hall.

  • @MartinInBC Can't believe it, the BEST OF FAD GADGET CD arrived today from Amazon, ordered on the 12th arrived on the 14th and I'm sitting here on my office pc playing it in the background, it's brilliant! You have an awesome collection there and I'm looking forward to hearing much more of his work. I have Ricky's hand somewhere on tape too and think I have the Back to Nature 45rpm vinyl, now I come to think of it, as I have a feeling I bought it from a bargain bin, what a bargain...!

  • I used to think all his stuff was totally tongue-in-cheek, but now it seems he was mostly being earnest.

  • and yooooooooou........... kissed me!!

  • @Discoduck76

    kiss me

  • I am sure this was speeded up and sampled in an 808 state song

  • love early electro music, this is a brilliant example of the trailblazers of new music in the late 70's

    Still sounds fresh today.

  • for got just how good this song was from the late 70's should have teamed up with Numan, reminds me of Clones in Plymouth

  • Is Clones in Plymouth a band?

  • Hi no clones was a new wave punk club in the middle of union st in plymouth i used to go to in the early 80's great club played lots of early kraftwerk silicon teens and Fad gadget was one of the groups that Greg Vandyke the DJ and owner used to play but alas no more tyhanks for asking tho

  • epic song ^^ 5*++

  • @deman41

je zou ze eens moeten zien ;)

  • A Diamond from the '80s !
