Ha Ha Ha, and the number of Aussies I've had tell me 'they were stupid to send their convicts to such a paradise'. Looks like with all the droughts and dying rivers that big empty land hasn't changed much since Pearces' days.
@Seankeltic7 in the actual movie they talk in english they had to because they were ruled by english people on sarah islands where they were first transported to.
Not much on the west coast.. and certainly nothing that a bunch of european convicts knew how to find. but that's the interesting thing.. these guys didn't try. it's documented in Alexander Pearce's confessions that they resorted to violence before attempting to live off the land.
@jonathanaufderheide they couldnt find food they resorted to violence a couple of weeks after they had nothing to eat they took it into a long consideration and his famous quote "no man can tell what he may do driven by hunger"
@mope009 its australia not just that island and yes there were things to eat but for people who were unfamiliar with unconstructed land it was almost impossible to find australian bush tucker. The only thing that they could eat was their own leather and eachother.
@999999993 i actually dont think it was that bad we had to watch it. I liked it and thats a lot to say considering im 13 and 13 year olds arent generally into that sort of thing.
I'm going to see it tonight, I live in Tasmania, which you may or may not know was once called Van Diemens Land, I have seen the isolated and rugged terrain depicted in the film and I am really looking forward to seeing in in 1080HD. It takes almost seven hours to drive from hobart to where the little island on the west coast is the road impassable in inclement weather. how he finds hobart is a impossible feat but we all learnt of it in school
weird, I read about this happening the other day in an Australian history book. Without any knowledge of a film... I'd still see it after reading the gory details, ha
This film is not to be missed - grave, brooding, malevolent and altogether a disturbing assault on the senses! Not for the faint of heart and incredible atmosphere!
I saw it this morning, at the Edinburgh Film Fest. Not exactly a pleasant sort of film, it has some strange, horrible, raw beauty. Thank you, Jonathan, we're waiting for more from you;)

This movie could be amazing! The story it is based on is almost unmatched and very suited to cinema.

Saw this movie last night! I loved it and found it deeply disturbing at the same time - that doesnt happen much with movies these days.
Great acting, great cinematography.
