Oh great..... Another sonic winner. Doesn't exactly make me want to run out and buy Flip4Mac anytime soon.
"My Dead cover band is better than yours".......... These musicians are about as talented as it gets, so I wouldn't be able to knock them even if I WASN'T into this type of thing. They could probably play anything and make it sound great (just like the Australian Pink Floyd Show, another fantastic tribute band).
Despite what some people think, this stuff is NOT easy to play properly.
I remember when I went to Summer Camp music festival and was first exposed to jam bands. I didn't think it was lame, but it definitely was different then anything I had ever taken the time to listen to before. I didn't know if I liked it, but I kept an open mind. Then, right as I'm peaking on 4 hits of acid, DSO starts to play, as I looked around at all the smiling faces I experienced peace and serenity like I never have before. Now I listen to them and The Dead to put my mind at ease. <3
A little advice though...... 4 hits of acid is A LOT (even with today's crappy acid). Certainly enough to send the wrong person over the deep end (if it's strong acid.... and you really never know for sure until you take it, and then it's too-late to do anything about it). That stuff is not to be toyed with for sure. Trust me, I'm 40 and I've been there. Just FYI.
@gangtwanger Yea, I'm much more knowledgeable on acid then I was back then. That was actually my first LSD trip, and it was quite the crazy one. I wouldn't want it any other way though, the vibes from everyone where so great, and the trip was so strong that it completely overwhelmed any negative emotions I could possibly have. The trip was too dumbfounding for me to worry about anything. :)

this scars me because im in a band calld the d.s.o (weve not made it out of our basment yet) but it stand for demented social outcast...but were not this lame i mean gawd
@nixichixi85 Well thats cool I wish you the best of luck with your band but Dark star is sweet. when your band make it out of the basement and plays all over the country then you can call then lame but till them respect the music
i love the dead and am going to go see dso nov 7 at the electric factory in philly and am pumped! i was wondering from others who've attended thier shows if its easy to get lucy there?
I was lucky enough to have been turned on to the Grateful Dead close to the end of the Jerry era('92), I got to see them a half dozen times and each time was precious.
I've seen DSO a few times and it's always a kind experience- of course they're not the Dead, and to accuse them of it would be to miss the point. It's really kinda scary cool to listen to their performances, though- they've definitely captured the spirit of the band...
OK, so nothing beats the Dead. We get it. But not having seen my first show until 1980, I missed out on the real magic of what the earlier Dead gave us live. And if you are a "music" vs "culture" Deadhead, you'd be able to hear and appreciate just what these guys are doing. It's remarkable. It also points to how worn out Jerry had become, and how sloppy it all became. Heresy? To some. But when I saw DSO perform a '73 show, I was truly Grateful, and felt like I was given a gift of what once was.
I just found these guys..omg...they are so eerily good..Iam going to make it point to go and see them in SF at the Filmore..I just cannot believe how good they sound..Jerry would be so proud..
The difference between Lisa and Donna is that Lisa always carries a perfect tune where as Donna you never knew what you'd get. I seen both many time and Lisa is by far a better singer.
Damn!!..these guys gimmie the best "Jerry Chills" up and down my spine I've gotten since Jerry himself..I saw all of the shows at Winterland and most the Bay area from 75 to 89...Christ they even have Donna in there!...Thanks for the post!
please come down to the Gulf Coast: Biloxi, Mobile, Orange Beach, Pensacola, Destin, Panama City. You guys have tons of fans in these areas. I know for a fact. I live in Pensacola and we would love to have you guys play in Seville Park. Please contact me!!!
Good question NuG919... I was at the Penn's Peak show the other night when they did Montana 5/14/74 and they did not recreate the bottle thrown at Weir....... To those clueless Losers whining about lack of creativity, I think the DSO get it right on their Web Site....(paraphrase)All they're doing is what great orchestra's do everynight when they play music by a great composer......
Amen, that's exactly how too look at it. I once questioned them myself..."all that talent being wasted by copying the Dead." But I never hear people bashing great orchestras for "ripping off" Mozart. I love DSO, they keep the bus rolling!!!
Sound is so low I can barely make it out. We had a term for bands like this back in high school, wannbe's. Come on don't you all have ANY creativity of your own? Better send Deborah Koons a check, she may sue you if you don't give her some money for impersonating Jerry, lol.
These guys aren't bad. I mean, if you close your eyes, you'd think is was Jerry & Co! The production is good, too. Multi-angle cam shots, but the sound needs to be re-mastered for this encoding? Too tinny.
damn they have an upcoming show in my neighborhood but its 21 and up..

This may be lame but I have watched them in front of 15,000 people and it was not that lame, it was phat

If you practiced your instrument 12 hours a day, 7 days a week for 10 years, you wouldn't be fit to tune these guys' guitars.
Meanwhile, I'll be waiting for your debut.

Warren did Jerry justice. He brought another dimension to The Dead, and picked up the pieces when Bobby slacked allll tour long.

Sounds a littlte like Phil in his Fender days.
However, the sun don't shine on the same dog's ass every day either, so it may set well to restrain tongue and pen from time to time too.

I wish I could hear this, because it sounds great on the DSO 5/8/07 CD.
Saw this band twice this summer...they are fantastic.
Saw the GD several times, great to hear this music live again.
