In human history the "pants" for men is a relative newbe. Many ancient cultures featured men in long robes. But, I must say, I love a man in a KILT!!! It's so . . . oh, well I probably shouldn't say on-line. I am, by the way, of Scottish descent.
The Breacan an Fhéilidh (belted plaid) or Féileadh Mòr (great plaid) is 7 - 9 yards of 60" wide wool plaid, pleated by hand and belted on. The Great Kilt should hang no more or less than 1 inch above or below the knees. The excess is worn bundled behind and tucked into the belt or in an over the shoulder/under the arm manner joined by a large C shaped pin or brooch called a Penannular
the end song of highlander is 'its a kind of magic' by queen

Don't know but our country's overwhelming roots is Scottish. As our culture, and music has it's oregions from the land of the Scoti. My mother and son are red heads. Elvis Presly and Johnny Cash were Scottish. Pres George Washington's life's journey is due to a Scot - George Hume, my Clan, My heritage goes all the way back to King William / Magna Carta / Braveheart / Culloden and Flodden. Thus my name Wallace
@Raven9619 i wont argue with that but the problem is "they died 700 hundred years ago and they wore trousers not kilts ".Those that have followed since are just lap dogs :). The philibeg or small kilt, also known as the walking kilt (similar to the modern kilt) was invented by an English Quaker from Lancashire called Thomas Rawlinson sometime in the 1720s
@twinky666666 Respectfully, I disagree! Here in the US there has been a great interest and activity in European historical re-enactment. The Highland Great Kilt is not only worn for such activities but I personally wore my Great Kilt for my "Handfasting" and at weddings of friends. I have seen a number of participants at Highland Games around the country wearing the Great Kilt when they compete. Granted, it's use is infrequent but far from dead. it's a growing tradition.
@twinky666666 there is an article on Wikipedia that has more detail but, Rawlinson did not actually create the walking kilt and his claim to have done so has been historically proven to be suspect if not false altogether. The story behind Rawlinson is that he claimed he came up with the short kilt as a response to the Great kilt being impractical for highlanders in his charcoal production facility.
@Raven9619 It is historically reported that Ceasar saw these colorful Plaids,Tartans during his conquest of Gaul. The Celts were not the only culture to wear a kilt ,as it were. In Scottish history there are only 73 or77. official tartan plaids. Two or three I can't remember which are also the official colors of a Family and a title. One of which is the Viscount of Dundee which is the Hereditary title of the Grahams of Montrose. I can wear 4 Tartans.but, Can't afford them...LOL
@Raven9619 The tartan has been around for thousands of years. I imagine the Gaels and there many Celtic cousins adapted many variations on this practical attire including wearing them with britches(pants) The Egyptians and the Isrealites also wore a short kilt and they were contemporaries of the ancient Celts. So why fight over it ....just enjoy the breeze..lol
@watutuboy This just in from Wikipedia and confirmed from her own bio on her website...McKennitt was born in Morden, Manitoba of Irish and Scottish descent to parents Jack (died 1992; a livestock dealer) and Irene McKennitt (1931-2011; a nurse). She moved to Stratford, Ontario in 1981, where she still resides.
@Stjarntydarna It would be great to be immortal because you can see the world and experience EVERYTHING! Also, according to Highlander series/movies, the last immortal will be mortal and will be able to have children, which is the "final prize."
@TheGoogler77 Sure... watching your friends and those you love grow old and die, that would be great. And as for being friends with other immortals..., it is always going to be in the back of your mind that there can be only one. Sooner or later they will be killed, or worse, you'll have to do it to be the one. Sounds like lots of fun.
@cuzzinator I guess seeing your loved ones die is a price you must be willing to pay for glorious immortality. And I wasn't referring to highlander immortality, but to immortality in general.

A good piece of African rap music would have been a better selection. Diversity is our strength. all white music or culture is bad, white culture MUST!!! be mixed with african or asian cultures.
@Sarskia1 It is an Irish folksong but, both the old growth forests of Ireland and Scotland have suffered greatly from the heavy handedness of progress. To cover a few pieces of history. "Bonny Portmore" is an Irish traditional folk song which details the centuries of Ireland's old oak forests, specifically The Great Oak of Portmore, being leveled for military and shipbuilding purposes.
The song laments the destruction of the Ornament Tree, an old oak which is believed to have stood near Portmore Lough, County Antrim.
The symbolism between the MacLeods and the Forest is easy to see.
@kubwulf The song is a traditional folk song of Ireland, concerning the deforestation of that country. The great ornament tree of Portmore was believed to be in excess of a thousand years old. Don't know if that's true though, def. plausible. In the Highlander I believe it was used as a metaphor for Connor and Duncan McLeod in that they were cut off from family, friends, culture and humanity by there immortality. They had no home but, the world was there home. They clung to there heritage.
@chewie21117there are many stories and such as to what the song was really about but as far as I can tell it is an Irish traditional folk song which details the centuries of Ireland's old oak forests, specifically The Great Oak of Portmore, being leveled for military and shipbuilding purposes.
The song laments the destruction of the Ornament Tree, an old oak which is believed to have stood near Portmore Lough, County Antrim.

no offence every1 i respect your opinions but i hate this song and if your reading this don't be discouraged every1 has there own taste in music im just a metal scream-o rock type person lmao
What? Come on man. I love proper rock, like ACDC, Aerosmith, Sabbath, Maiden, but even I can tell a good peice of classic music. This would be one of those
This song is actually from the Highlander TV series. The episode is called Homeland: After purchasing an antique bracelet in Paris, Duncan heads off to Glenfinnan, to return it to the grave of Debra Campbell, the first love of his life. You can watch all the episodes on Fancast.
the movies should've ended after the original, the series allowed for more range because they could always include more characters, where in the first movie connor was clearly the last one alive.

@MIGUEL2005LIMA This is Mckennitt, but Enya and Mckennitt do a duo version of this song. I'ts on U-Tube, you might find it under Highlander if you can not find it. I never listened to it though.

Being part Scots I have loved this song since hearing it at the end of Highlander 3.
Took me a while to find it and so glad I have. If I get to the pearly gates I sure hope they are playing this.

I'm a grown man... kind of a tough guy I guess, and I cried.
This is beautifull music and she has an angels voice.

What? Come on man. I love proper rock, like ACDC, Aerosmith, Sabbath, Maiden, but even I can tell a good peice of classic music. This would be one of those

McKennit relates this is a song about deforestation. Not sure how that relates to The Highlander?
regnvejr1 2 years ago
The Laura Creamer version was played with a montage of previous Highlander the Series scenes at the end of the Series in 1998.

hey, were are the opening and closing theme songs for highlander?
marioandersons 2 years ago
This song is actually from the Highlander TV series. The episode is called Homeland: After purchasing an antique bracelet in Paris, Duncan heads off to Glenfinnan, to return it to the grave of Debra Campbell, the first love of his life. You can watch all the episodes on Fancast.

the movies should've ended after the original, the series allowed for more range because they could always include more characters, where in the first movie connor was clearly the last one alive.

Prequel featuring other swordsmen might have worked. But a sequel was just desperate
