  • Capitalization is essential:

I helped my Uncle Jack off his horse.

I helped my uncle jack off his horse.

  • Make Hank dress up as Cinderella and have him go to McDonalds for dinner-- STILL WEARING THE CINDERELLA COSTUME!

  • @HelexHere yeah, sure, sis.

  • Dye Hanks hair pink while he sleeps!

  • POLYAMORY FOR THE WIN!

Thank you for knowing that term, sir. It brings warmth to my heart.

  • maybe Snooki is secretly an octopus? .........WALL TEST!!!!!

  • Wow, I searched for this "snooki" thingy and found me in front of a video that welcomes me in a German 'Guten Morgen, Hank, es'st Freitag.', weird. o.O

  • Puff level? High.

  • Actually, she can't have three hands, because she said that the margaritas were in "the other", singular. Of course, that could be a mistake.

  • Dont you mean, comuncation

  • You know your a nerd when you know almost anything.

You know your a creepy nerd when you think its Lawl not l - o - l

You know your a creepy perverted nerd when your this Guy......

  • @BigDawg0145 you know you're stupid, when you just watched a video talking about the importance of grammar and still spelt "you're" wrong three times in your comment...

  • @KiiRa232 THANK YOU. I was going to be so disappointed if a fellow Nerdfighter hadn't already pointed out the horrific oversight. (Plus, I probably would've ranted for days.)

  • @AngieDNalalal13 haha You're welcome :) and also thank you for calling me a Nerdfighter, I've only been watching for 2 weeks and feel totally cool/nerdy and honored now^^

  • Let's eat Grandma!

    Let's eat, Grandma!

    GRAMMAR SAVES LIVES!!!

  • @goundof actually, it's uncle, not Uncle

  • i showed my brother in law this vid,,, now he is a nerdfighter

  • I can't believe youu were in Munich! I live ca. 40 min by car from there!!! I COULD HAVE MET YOU.

If only I would have seen this video earlier (like 1 and a half years earlier.)...sigh...

  • "clear and transparent as possible" is using synonyms in that case grammatically correct? (...said the 10th grade going into advance english next trimester)

  • Comment removed

  • @turniphead14 LOL good catch ^^; sorry, 10th grader* :P

  • a nerdfighter from Omegle brought me here... nerdfighters on Omegle... the world is getting better.

  • Trust me, you haven't seen bad use of the English language until you have read the posts of 'BeBo Stunnahz'. These strange specimens of the teenage girl got their name from the social networking site Bebo, where most adolesents used to begin their venture into online networking. This would be a common post from one girl to another:

"Well BaYuBzzz! Wat DeH neWz? Wa yhuu ben up tahh? Nyy, YhUu gIn taH Ciiara_s on Friii? Luvz yha bayubz, siix + siix in deh miiX"

    Bane of my life!

  • lets eat Granny.

    lets eat, Granny.

  • @jony1710 let's* :P

  • Major puff in this video

  • i was driving along (well my mom was driving) and I saw this sign

    CAUTION

    WILDFIRE DANGER

which I don't think is a bad message to be putting out there, but that that sign could mean multiple things

1:caution, wildfire danger, meaning that there is danger of a wildfire occuring

2:caution wildfire, danger. meaning that there is currently a wildfire and I am in danger

  • THE PUFF

  • @ekilcoin460 great nerdfighter minds think a-like ;)

  • puff levels are EXTREMELY HIGH in this video. RED WARNING ALERT!

  • @noosaho I was just about to comment the same thing!

  • @goundof, the "Uncle" in the second sentence should not be capitalized. In that sense, uncle is not a name, and therefore not a proper noun.

  • Let's eat, Grandma!

    Let's eat Grandma!

    Grammar saves lives.

  • @blueberrylily1790 You coppied the top comment that used to be on this video. The only thing you changed was grandpa to grandma and you took the can out of the "grammar saves lives" sentence. You should have given them credit.

  • @laughalltheway1 Sorry I didn't realize! @aidanaustria11 you get credit

  • @blueberrylily1790 wow i didn't realize you to be so nice! most people would just ignore my type of commenta! good for you!

  • @blueberrylily1790 wrong person it was @HellAngelsBells but there were a bunch or people that said it a bout a year ago.

  • lol try living across the street from snooki, its terrible...

  • @goundof hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • I love finding other grammar/spelling sticklers :)

  • jersey shore is reality tv?

  • @hereverydayadventure hahahaha :D i really hope not.

  • "let's eat grandma!" "let's eat, grandma!"

"eats, shoots and leaves" "eats shoots and leaves"

  • @aidanaustria11 YOU FAIL IT.

    The second is actually:

    "Eats: shoots and leaves"

    and

    "Eats, shoots, and leaves."

  • I CANNOT STOP WATCHING THESE VIDEOS. I NEED TO GO HOME AND EAT. Forget to be awesome, so I can stop watching these! Otherwise, I will die in my office. AFTER I get home, you can CONTINUE to remember to be awesome; because then I will have access to food & beverage. (Or I could just click the little red X button in the corner.) Problem solved! Oh no. The red button is actually green. I forgot about my Google skin, which happens to be awesome. I've broken my escape plan, & possibly the internets.

  • I know when to use an apostrophe but I never know when to use comas.

  • you know, it's a crime to steal sunflowers here in Germany. :D

  • @judyandthecat really? sunflowers?

  • Thank you for allowing me to look at large amounts of sunflowers, my favorite flowers, in the dead of winter. :)

  • Gorillas have an alpha male and many females. So, there is another mistake she made. It wasn't about grammar, but still.

  • My GOD! Look at that puff level go up!

  • I find it hilarious that there is a legit grammatical error in the title of this video... the w in 'with' should be capitalized. :D

  • @owlhead7777 Well, according to the Modern Language Association (MLA) format, he's ok; you don't need to capitalize conjunctions found in titles. I know what you mean, though.

  • You know he's stressed...his puff level is very high.

  • Snooki came to my college to speak during women's month. No one went.

  • Have you seen the "Like_youknow" video? It makes me wanna slow clap.

  • Sunflowers :)

  • I LOVE YOU *in a nerdy way*

  • John's puff level has reached maximum heights. This must be a trifling epidemic.

  • At my former red-neck, stereotypical hick town high school, I saw a student roaming the halls on with a shirt that read "We're hot, your not." With a picture of the school logo. I almost vomited, I instantly started screaming "UNACCEPTABLE DEAR SIR UNACCEPTABLE!"

    Nerdfighters, unite.

  • She says she got straight a's in school this is not a person who gets straight a's of she did I would hope she'd act with a little more common sence than getting kicked out of Italy for being morons

  • At 1:10 the puff starts moving on its own.

  • I got to watch this video after the fun of changing a tire that my sister destroyed.

    Worth it?

    I think yes.

  • John you said that you read EVERY comment.... does that statement include this one?

  • Sunflowers were my moms favorite flowers befor she died.

  • Oh God. The poof. It's so... poofy.

  • Why isn't there a show where an award winning author (John), corrects & reviews celebrities' tweets? (I felt very paranoid when typing this comment in fear of getting something wrong. I don't even think paranoid is the right word....)

  • ... and I just realized that I, like Hank, spelled Snooki's name wrong in my last comment, only I did it several times! *embarrassed facial expression*

  • "Snookie" and "grammar" are not two words I am used to hearing in the same sentence - that is to say, I have NEVER heard those words in the same sentence before. Being a non- US citizen I was not familiar with the concept of Snookie besides the odd mention on Twitter or on Youtube. After this video I now know why I have never heard the words "Snookie" and "grammar" in the same sentence. And I now have lost a great deal of faith on behalf of human kind because of the things I now know of Snookie.

  • Ahahahah xD

I love how you manipulated the syntax in that sentence!!!!! xD

  • hair

  • puff levels are high

  • You need to show her this video xD

  • You read ALL of the comments? That must take hours...

  • John, your hair was extra crazy in this video.

  • snooki is the best!

  • OMIGAWD

    Released on my birthday.

    I win.

  • just keep making fun of her illiteracy

  • "The only excuse for missing a coma is being in a coma," XD John

  • My writing teacher thought this was hilarious

  • This is the only thing I disagree with you on. I completely understand you are exaggerating to make a point, but why wouldn't somebody understand a sentence like that. With background information you can make inferences that are generally right. Of course if you didn't know who Snooki is you could have some difficulty, but chosing some of the hyperbolic choices you offered would be poor use of common sense. Grammar isn't nessecary, however spelling is and I agree with you on that.

  • @sandstorm49 lol, grammar isn't important?

Classic example: "Let's eat grandma!" vs. "let's eat, grandma!" two VERY different meanings, with just a tiny little comma to tell you the difference.

  • @SirCobbmeister

Well, of course that's more noticable in writing....

  • Puff levels are dangerously high....

  • "snookie, im not the who should be concered when you miss a period" TEE SHIRT QUOTE MUST HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @zombiecamelzzz I got that joke when I read your comment. Still laughing.

  • @NicoTheSecondDoctor thanks oh and love the user name (=

  • should school be capitzalized in this video title?

  • @realrealwarpet It's a title, so yes.

  • @notmichaelscott Okay good.

  • @TheJollynerd or listen to chameleon circuit?

  • @niconicokoibito

    ooo clever!

would you like a cookie? :)

  • @TheJollynerd Can i have fish fingers and custard instead?

  • Snookie is stupid. Proof? Intellectual individuals aren't paid millions for being moronic sluts.

  • It's funny that he said "I know you're not a trained medical expert" because she actually studied to be a vet tech with my sister in New York.

  • Man, that is some epic puff.

  • Lmao. I think you guys & communitychannel have the best viewers. ;P just a random thought. Now I'm grammatically self-conscious.... even more than I was before.......

  • Argh! I love Munich. My family lives there. I really want to go back...

  • ...

A group of gorillas is called a band...

  • About a year ago this was the first Vlogbrothers video I ever saw. I have come so far.

  • Friggin' hell, the puff is at its max in this video.

  • I was in Germany at this time. Why wasn't I born in Munich not Dresden!!!

  • Why are glow sticks so awesome?

  • Let's go eat grandpa.

    Let's go eat, grandpa.

    Grammar can save lives.

  • @HellAngelsBells I told my English teacher that and it is now on the board for the rest of the semester. DFTBA

  • @HellAngelsBells that's definitely top-comment worthy

  • @HellAngelsBells I definetly hope that second one is the one you think is right

  • @HellAngelsBells that is the most brilliant comment ever <3

  • I did not know who(or what) Snooki was until someone that I know explained it to me- and I was very dissapointed in America.

  • @Melofkevlechop It not our fault. Anyway, Boehner's a bigger orange disappointment.

  • John, please come to Germany again. Please?

  • haha its kinda weird but i really like his mouth and teeth :D

  • apostrophies(sp?) are very important. example: who're

  • This is great. I plan on sharing it with my students. I have also shared it with teachers. I think that aside from being superbly hilarious, you bring up great points about decaying discourse. Thanks!

  • The sunflowers are watching me.

  • She tries to be Italian when she's really....... Chilean

  • I'm a major Hetalian. That field of sunflowers made me emotional, orz.

  • My mom promised that if there was a nerdfighter meeting within four hours of where I live, so come to Syracuse, or saratoga, or Ottawa it something close to Canada in ny! We love you up here!

  • Oh my goodness the Puff

  • who the hell is snooki???

  • @thegirlofthelibrary If this is a legit comment: You win at life.

  • @EnglishNerdfighter13 I know who jersey shore because I asked that question. *sigh*

  • @EnglishNerdfighter13 sorry i dont understand you....

  • 3:11 to 3:21, unfortunately, the Puff (yes, I am capitalizing the p in puff in order to refer to th puff as an entity unto itself) went crazy and took over John's head. :-(

  • This is the video that started me watching the vlogbrothers. I actually got here by looking at gun reviews :S.

  • PLEASE COME BACK TO MUNICH!!!! John I missed you on every occasion you left the USA and I am dying to meet you!! Your books are absolutely fantastic and brilliant and [every other compliment you could give an author about his/her book] and every vlogbrothers video reminds me that you're a super awesome human and dad (and probably husband) and brother and I just really really want to meet you so please could you consider it? (note: length of sentence shows positive correlation to excitation)

  • Did you pick that sunflower from the sunflower patch/garden ?? Haha... :)

  • OMG My 3rd step cousin once removed surfs there!

  • If Snooki is a celebrity, it means that we celebrate her. We also celebrate Esther Day. If my conclusion is correct, most of America is saying that Snooki, a reality TV star, is equally as awesome as Esther, an awesome nerdfighter that died of cancer when she was sixteen.

I knew there was a reason that I began to lose faith in mankind.

  • @FelixFireboltFelicis Earl. Esther's last name was Earl.

  • @FlargTheKitty I know that. I meant Esther Day, as in the holiday

  • @FlargTheKitty ooooooooooohhhh lol I'm sorry!

  • Crackhead.

  • Loved this video! Please make more like this!

  • "even though we all know a group of gorillas is called a troup"

  • wow, the puff is looking extra puffy

  • you are seriously over thinking this...

  • As someone who has been IN a coma.. I agree 100% with you John. *laugh*

  • Did he bring a sunflower with him, because I definatley see a sunflower behind him....best wishes Hank..

  • OMG, the Englisher Garten! Is there still a sign, right where the surfers are surfing, which reads, "SCHWIMMEN UND SURFEN VERBOTEN"? I saw a naked guy there in the dead of winter; he had apparently gone for skinny-dip. Nothing on the sign about SKINNI-DIPPEN VERBOTEN, I guess?

  • And puff levels are high.... Snooki! You're stressing him out!!!

  • Whaat you have been to Munich : O

that means you've been to a place where i've been too ((:

  • Snooki is hilarious. If you didn't get it, there was a merry go round and she said, I wanna go on the ferris wheel, but it was a merry go round.

  • Hey look it's a Ferris Wheel!!

  • How come it feels like more than just a year has passed since I became a nerdfighter? Or was it just a year ago that I discovered that I had been one all along? DFTBA

  • "Snooki's not stupid." Yes. Yes she is

  • Rofl

  • You apostrophe R E cute.

  • Oh, John. How I wish you had been my English teacher ^_^

This would be a wonderful vid to show in a classroom (high school or above, obviously) because I find humor + learning = my brain retains more information.

  • fml= free my llama?

  • I love how Grammar Nazis pretend they can't understand a statement's meaning due to a couple spelling mistakes, even though the context makes it obvious.

Sorry for being a buzz kill. It's just my biggest pet peeve.

  • @LillianMoon Hm... in some ways, and probably most, I agree with you.

But in this case? The tweet about margaritas that John read was pretty hard to derive any actual meaning from. When I saw that tweet in this video, I actually paused the video and tried to work out what she meant. I eventually got there, but it's really not very clear.

  • The puff...

That's the worst I've seen in any video.

And I've seen a good few.

  • "Snooki is not stupid."

    lol

  • The puff is coming right at us! D:

  • @PurplexGreenxx (at the sunflower field)

  • WOW you look like Henry here! (hair and color and puff level)

  • woah your puff levels have increased so much during this video

  • Allow me to intertroll...

  • 205 people are snookie being embarrassed

  • I've been watching each of these videos in sequential order, and I feel terrible about myself because 1. Sorry John, I was set on classical literature as a teenager and into college; and 2. I had never actually heard of you. Take that for what you will, but I (recently discovered AND) really enjoy these vlogs between the two of you, and it *has* inspired me to add your books to my never-ending list. (See you in 6 months.)

  • Snooki makes people think that New Jersey is only populated by Italian people with Brooklyn accents. She is despicable! (and pretty stupid)

  • The puff is very puffy in this video.

  • NERIMON hair :P
