The SVD is my favourite, both for nostalgic reasons as well as I just like the feel of it. I pretty much always run it with a suppressor, foregrip and iron sights, but I do slap a ACOG on there from time to time. The thing you need to learn about the semi-auto rifles is that spamming bullets as fast as you can isn't going to do that much for you. DICE has mentioned this a few times, but haven't really made it clear. There is a optimal fire rhythm to them.
I run the M39 8x rifle scope or 4x Acog (forget the correct name) with fore grip and laser and a M93R as my side arm works pretty well although like you said if you try to do the long range sniping tactics that you do with bolt actions you get your arse handed to you.
Statistically, the MK11 and SKS are the best choices. The bullets fired out of the M39 EMR move slightly quicker then the MK11's, and the SVD's bullets travel slower then the MK11 and the M39 EMR's, but not as slow as the SKS's. The QBU-88S, the sniper added in Back to Karkand, is identical to the MK11 except for there is more bullet drop, and it has a slower reload.
So, in order from best to worst, MK11 -> M39 EMR -> QBU-88S -> SVD. The SKS cannot be compared as easily as the rest.
I'm confused about how the SVD, Mk 11, and M39 are OHK to the head at all ranges. Supposedly they do 34 minimum damage at 40 or 50 M or whatever it is. There is supposed to be a 2X headshot multiplier. So a headshot equals 68 damage then? I find that I don't tend to bother to go for headshots with these guns since they never seem to be OHK unless I'm pretty close. Do you find that to be the case BHarlan? Or am I just hitting them in the neck all the time?
@SkeldZ06 It's been a while but I am fairly certain that they will one hit to the head, I havent really tried engaging people at anything beyond 100 meters since the Beta. Sounds like I need to try some long range semi auto shooting before Part 2 lol
@bharlan2002 You could be right. Maybe the semi-autos have a different headshot modifier than the rest of the weapons. And I could just be really bad at getting headshots with them. I find getting OHK's much easier with the bolt guns, especially of course the M98.
definately do part too man, enjoy your vids great help with the recon kit. Intro was good keep em coming, my favourite semi auto battle rifle is the MK11 with iron sights but havent unlocked M39 from co-op yet, when i do it will be my favourite as the M14 was in BFBC2.
@GenericUs3rname At the time I recorded the commentary I hadnt had the chance to play Karkand so I missed out on the QBU-88, I'll try to cover it when I can get on Karkand.
the stats for them are in the the link i sent you in your supressed clip. Btw did you find the page usefull? Great music intro, they remind me of Dropkicks murphys and Floggin molly:P
MK11 is my preferred rifle when im talking semi's. if im going long range sniping im using the M98. got almost 200 kills with the M98 with a 30% accuracy and 51% of my kills are headshots. that being said i like to think i know the M98 well enough to make shots up to 300 meters with ease and only 1-2 "test" shots
im a decent sniper all around and better than a lot of guys i play with. if im trying to run and gun i use the semi's. my suggestion is this: take the scope off until you can unlock something worth while running around with. the MK11 unlocks the ACOG at 10 kills and is probably the best choice for running and gunning.
The SKS feels like a strong G3 from BC2, and that was my favorite weapon in the entire game. The only difference is no full auto, which I never really used anyway.
The semi autos have replaced battle rifles, which I think is a shame.
I'm a big SKS fan, because that capacity advantage and just getting used to 2-4 hits (depending on headshot(s) for a kill.
it's just got a rate of fire limit nicely in line with the rate I'm comfortable tapping the mouse at, I think that finding that and getting used to both your finger and the weapon is key to semi-automatic, full-success.
@kevinalvito Yeah that's the Canister Shot and yes, it has a very long range altho it does not always kill at that distance, usually at that range it is just a hitmarker.
.... your in WV? I'm in Grantsville (:

@MegaGuy123123 More or less, they are good for suppressing enemy snipers but actually killing them they are outclassed by the bolt actions.

The SKS, 4xPSO-1, Grip and silencer. very stealthy setup with no scope glare close to mid range. oh and warning expect hate mail :)

Hey mate, Good vid. Try to work a lil more in the intro lol,
for the semi’s I wouldn’t advise you to take out the scope, u just have to use them in chocke points for the enemy team, that’s where they shine.
Try out the new semi from the DLC it as a fare amount of damage, reduce recoil and high fire rate.
P.S. what is your secondary fire mode in the tank? is it the canister shells? And is it normal to have such a big range like in 7:52???

I don't particularly like the Semi-Auto. I prefer Bolt Action Rifles especially on Team Death Match using a 4-times Scope or Acog.
Also I don't really like your intro for this video.... I would say if it's not broke, don't try to fix it.... Great Video non the less. :)
