Bare in mind, that they black plague was most deadly in crowded, unclean cities. 80 millions where ALLOT at midevil times. Its like if 1000 millions would die today.
I thought people could transmit it, as others contracted most deadly disease through coughing because it eventually became transmittable from person to person, the way swine flu is now because the virus evolved. Perhaps some human contact :) Thanks for the info though! Things like this are only "skimmed" upon by high school teachings..you don't actually get into depth about it which sucks because there's so much more to learn about it. Maybe I'm thinking of other diseases xD
The bacteria that causes the plague can be transmitted but contact or clothing, but this actually was quite a rare event in comparison to infection via the traditional method of rodent bite.
1348-The Black Plague–Jews are accused of Poisoning the wells
Read The Confession of Agimet of Geneva,Châtel,Oct 20,1348
Twas reported that the leaders in the Jewish metropolis of Toledo initiated the plot & one of the chief conspirators was a Rabbi Peyret, Jews caught in the act, confessed to these crimes of germ warfare, killing Half of Europe.
Author Elliot Horowitz in RECKLESS RITES echos Cecil Roth, foremost Jewish historian on this topic of Jews causing the Black Plague.
high school? we went over this in the 7th grade, i know alot about it, like, they used the dead as weapons during war, they catapulted the dead in rival camps, and the bodies splatered on impact infecting the rival camp
Well perhaps not the disease, but at one point to attack or whichever it happened there was a city closed off from it from the walls, and I remember seeing a part on youtube where people flung the bodies over the wall. May not have been contracted that way, but either way it somehow spread there :) But thanks for the clips anyways! Didn't know it was under debate actually :) I didn't learn too much of it, but yeah I think I recently heard of a new classification for it.
In medievil warface, this technique was used to send fear through the ranks of the defenders, being used to infect other people ..i don't think so. I think in the movie "The kingdom of heaven" has a scene simular to what you are mentioning
Anyone know what clips these are from? Also, it was used as a weapon for a time, I believe during a warring period..can't remember which one..also to which dead bodies where flung over the wall..I should mentioned dead infected bodies..then no one was safe but now the bubonic plague is indeed very curable, if caught early and not in its advanced stages.
Sorry mate, I can't remember the name of the doco. As for using the body as a chemical weapon.. i think that is unlikely, the plague decimated armies and I do not believe anyone was seriously at war at this time. Additionally an infected person is not contagious (as far as I am away) Also please keep in mind, the plague of 1347 is still under debate whether it was bubonic or other.
That wasn't the KKK; at the time of the Black Death, groups of penitents wandered the roads, scourging themselves to try to help deflect what they saw as God's anger. And it's not unusual for penitents to be hooded.
Very ... eerie video, especially with that background music!
no wonder the french made catacombs for these bodies and i heard that they put bricks in people's mouth cause they were vampires when they die to keep them from eating their neighbor body to get strong
HI there, actually you are right to a degree. Undead/Zombies/vampire mythology gets a bit of itself from plague days where people who weren;t quite dead would be put into coffin. Some of them actually got better enough to open the lid of the coffin ..hence vampire coffin mythology was born..or at least helped
This video seems to get a lot of people using it for class assignments (which is great) I'd just like to update some figures which differ from the video. The facts i used where accurate at the time. Here are the updates:
The total number of deaths worldwide is estimated at 75 million people,[10] approximately 2550 million of which occurred in Europe.
Some scientists, Historians and some researchers believe that the illness was, in fact, a haemorrhagic fever
I've always wondered why the black death caused such a pscyhic pain to medieval Europeans. It killed Muslims and others in the same horrible way, but it didn't really destroy an entire worldview there the way it destroyed the worldview of the Middle Ages. It's sad...I'm a medievalist, and it's almost as if medieval Christians felt so protected by God, Mary and all the saints that something as horrendous as this simply destroyed that faith...and we have the Renaissance, a much darker period.
yes it is true some doctors have made treatements NOW. black death was torchure the symptoms are coughing up blood glands swelling up as the size as a fist and pussing it was horrible.
There is not cure to black plague but there are treatments. But you're right went an apparant hybrid disease occurs and which such speed it would be utterly terrifying. Thank you, this was the exact message I was trying to get accross in my film
Actually, we wouldn't be totally helpless. One of the main reasons the Great Mortality was so deadly was because people didn't know how it was transmitted nor did they have the sanitation infrastructure in place that we do now. Yes, it's still a very dangerous illness (well, there are two forms we're dealing with actually but that's another matter) so while we aren't better protected once infected, we're infinitely more able to limit the spread of this illness.

it depends which one your talking about. but the one i learned about is that it was caused by flees that were infested by rats which were let loose off a ship comming fron some country to italy and eventually the rats would bite ppl or nibble on their food or brush their clothes which would let the flees jump out and when the flees got onto you, you basicaly got the plague, then you got a headache, a fever, then the rest of the symtoms and died.
it was started by the simple lil bite of a infected flea, the fact that they didnt know bout germs didnt help either, they threw raw sewage and garbage out there windows into open sewers in the middle of the street. animals roamed the streets eating garbage
Part 1: In June 1831 plague invaded Kuwait from Iraq as they said It killed 60% of the population in Kuwait which means more than 3 quarters of the Kuwaiti people and the survivors were only 4000 in that year one of the stories said that one family started to save food in the first days of this crises and locked the door not letting any to come or leave the house but their daughter in law was worry about her family in the next door so she went
Part 2: to check on her family and went out when she came back her husban's family didn't let her to get in coz she became sick and she died after few days.
