I bought it! Still got the vinyl. I was ten, and oblivious to any levels of irony or grown-up-ness about it, including the band name. "They" brought out a remix of a kids' TV theme, I obediently bought it and stuck it on the shelf next to Shaft's Roobarb & Custard and Jungle Book Groove, and went about my business eating sweets and making noises. Spoiled, we was. Good stuff - I can't actually remember it now, but you might like to know I remember enjoying the B-side too.
This was Pre Jungle. This Track came out in 92 and was considered Hardcore where Breaks were sped up around 127-140 then after Jungle Came out in the Mid Nighties With Raggae Samples and Heavy Bass Lines Dubbed Jungle Techno which later Called Ragga Jungle or just plain Jungle.
I don't know how anyone could hate this or say that it destroyed rave music. It's pretty obvious that it was produced as a joke record not meant to be taken seriously at all. Even as a song itself it's still good, a lot better than most stuff these days IMO. Besides without this song we wouldn't have gotten Charly and that is a great song as well.
Takes me back to my school days in Reading... I was twelve when this came out, but all the boys in my class loved this tune. Also Ebeneezer Goode, Searchin' for my Rizla, that type o' ting. Everyone was saying 'safe' and wearing bomber / puffa jackets. I want the 90's back...
Is this that "new"? Really?? For some reason, I thought it was very late 80s. I remember hearing it when going to a big hangout in East Lansing (MI) and I was in high school when we did that. Hm. I had the cassette single (CASSETTE! LOL) and put it on a mixed tape (is my age coming through??)...I will have to pull the tape out and see when it was made (I date everything).
Maybe it killed rave, but it also exposed a lot of people to it, too. A slippery slope to be sure, but it completely revolutionized the 90s for me and made me the upstanding citizen I am today. Life is about compromise.
I heard this during my Marine Corps Days on a deployment to Australia! It was in 1992 and the clubs in Australia were rockin it! Been looking for it since then.
One of my favourite sample-a-song-and-turn-it-into-a-dance-mix songs ever! I bought the single on tape back in the day - I have since found a nice copy on CD single and I love it! If you don't like it, move on! It was 18 years ago =P
@DelusionDestroyer ... and we played at the China Club in Chicago which was the first date on our US tour in late 1992. You guys gave us a fabulous welcome and couldn't have hoped for a better start to the tour :)
Don't think you guys can be credited with killing rave, I was 17 when this came out and it's one of the tunes I remember that got me into the scene. Honestly not one of my faves (sorry) but memorable and I was going to large 'do's' for years to come. The scene still lives on but in a minority way now, shame but all good thing and all that.
Thanks for posting this son! Brings back great memories from my youth.. i was living in brisbane australia at the time.. 13 years old.. this is what got me into techno music. still a fan of hardcore though.. freeform/dark dnb!!
Killed rave my ass...I was on the opposite end of the spectrum as it was the commercial success of this track (and a few others) that made it to the American Midwest (a difficult feat for any trend/genre/lifestyle/whatever, even in the early 90s) and revolutionized my life. I still listen to your album with the same sense of awe and excitement as I did when I first heard it (particularly Apollo, which I find incredibly motivational, and Intruder Alert, which just damn fun). Thanks for posting!
I remember reading in a book or maybe an interview with the Liam Howlett of The Prodigy. He said once this song came out and went big Rave was then commercialised and it was the beginning of the end.If this song hadnt done it though another one would have,it was bound to happen.Great song.I had "Now 18" or something like that on cassette tape and this was on it,cool:-))).
@JuicyLemonDOTcom I know this was a year ago but I just found darthwards comment pure gold! Do you think he was calling this jungle or had he coined a new 'swears'. "Man, I hate sprouts! Sprouts is 'shit jungle'." Either way it's not jungle, shit or otherwise.
nice one, mate! nice to see the originator uploading these old tunes.
and no one song killed rave. The tabloids and the '94 criminal justice bill killed rave. Tho' it lived on in techno and dnb squat parties and later psy raves all across Europe.
Classic I still have the maxi cassette single for this song, never gets old brings back lots of memories, the 90's were the good old days my high school days miss the 90's

thanks for creating this wonderful song, i still love it to this day. i have it on a cd compilation "best of techno volume 3" put out by Profile Records.
Hell no did this kill rave!!! Just helped it along the way to a new direction- ie the backlash against this track was that hardcore turned into darkside, without which we wudn't have jungle, without which we wouldn't have DnB. Plus its simly a wikkid rave choon. Respect to Luna C and the boys :D
Someone played a clip from Sesame Street on radio and it reminded me of your track so I'm glad to have found you've posted it on here. 1992 was such a cool year with lots of happy memories. Nice to see Victoria Park feature in a music video too :)
You might want to tell the Magic Music Channel that this video exists. Dr. Fox and Peter Waterman are presenting a series of programmes counting down the top 40 songs since 1990 and only had a clip of the record cover for your entry (Number 27 in 1992)
Haha "Killing Rave"? Isn't that like impossible? And even so, this is typical rave music, loud, bouncey and full of energy. As far as I am concerned, I'm a 90's child and this is an awesome track, maybe you should try to start things up again, just alittle different, obviously. =]
So what if the purists thought you killed off rave - fact of the matter is that 2 unlimited did the same for techno, but now they are the only people that we remember from that period - this was a fantastic song that takes me back to 15 again, in such a good way!!! Well done fella

I don't know why this version was never
used to jump start the playground era on
Sesame Street for the 1993 season of
the show. It would've made for a great
clipfest, or perhaps Smart E's could've
appeared in the opening, itsself, if they
had done the opening theme that way.
This show often used more time for some
clips than others, and this was one way
the theme song could've been extended.
