I just purchased the roadster combo and I am having trouble dialing in the tone. Your tone sounds amazing. Can you please send me your settings for channel 4?
Hey what do i need to get some straight sound of my roaster can not figure out any parkwaydrive sound or lamb of god sound with it. like my new amp! like it than more than any other amp in this world! mesa 4 ever!!! and I player diezerl and engl amps!
Hey there fellow Roadster owner! I have been searching for the perfect high gain tone for this amplifier and i think i might just have found it. Would you mind helping out a fellow Roadster owner and send me your settings. It would be VERY much appreciated. Thank you.
@0m1nous Thanks for the fast reply! Really considering this or the Mark V, since they're the same price. I was leaning towards the Mark but this video has me on the line now haha.
@9000Ryan yeah, mark v wasnt out when I was looking, although I still lean towards this just because I know how great it has been for me, and I have heard some not-so-good things about the V
@0m1nous hi do you have to turn this baby up loud to get a good sound like you had to do on the old rectifiers or does the 50 watt mode take care of that
also is the pick attack very tight and percussive like the mark series i will b playing it through a giblson lp custom stock pickups thanku looking for that metallica kinda sound
@munchy040 you do not have to turn it up loud at all to get good tone. 50 watt takes care of that to a degree, but spongy in 100w is good also (how I practice at room volume). When I play live, always bold-- and depending on the channel 50w or 100w. The individual channel volumes is great for this so I can match the 50w channel with the 100w channel.
I would say this has a more progressive sound (ie petrucci) than metallica sound... at least, old school metallica sound (read good metalica!
i'm trying to decide between the roadster and the triple rectifier. i play a lot of metallica acdc maiden athrax stuff like that. can any body tell me which one would be better
heyt man nice rig, i have a korg ax3000g too, would u like to share some settings of this amazing multi effect hehe , of course i have a lot to share too id appreciate if u can help me
@K1DUDE911 This was the decision I was making when I bought my roadster. Mark IV's a bit of a one trick pony, it will give you a great, tight sound. The Roadster will not only do that but you give you great cleans. It's not a jackson of all trades and master of none, it's a master of quite a few trades, lol.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with mixing British with American guitar gear. Hell, orange cabs used Eminence speakers for years and what do you think comes in a Boogie cabinet? Celestion speakers. I love the orange cabs for the added bass the 13 ply birch gives you and I love straight cabs...just hate cleaning the amp marks from the tolex. They are SO hard to keep clean...
@fellsal88 i do it, got the idea from thomas kalnoky (of streetlight manifesto) and it sounds fuckin killer, but its a dual rec so it might be a little different. the dont mix rule is bullshit, you get the best of both worlds and a unique sound when you do
I have the mesa 4x12 cab and an orange rockerverb 100, im considering selling the orange for this head, have u played the orange and if you have how does this compare to it?
i have played the orange.. though not thru this cab... and to me there is no comparison...
historically though, I have never really dug orange amps for my playing--- I like Orange amps! And I think they are perfect for some people... they just dont fit my style. Just an opinion.
Is there some sort of setting that I can use with this amp to get a similar sound to my orange? I like the sound of my orange but If I can get it on this amp, then the extra features make this amp a definate buy.
Personally, I am a fan of the one-channel amps, and think that multi-channel amps typically don't sound as good... but this amp is the most versatile, fantastic sounding amp I have ever played. I can get anywhere from pristine clean sound, a plexi-ish sound, a bluesy sound, a prog rock sound, to metal sound...
Thinking about buying one of these for $1300 soon.
How well does it pull off thrash (a la Metallica and Megadeth), shred (Vai, Loomis), prog rock (Dream Theater, Animals as Leaders) and tech death/metalcore (Between the Buried and Me, Born of Osiris)?
Death/Metalcore-- no clue, never tried it-- but have heard some guys with massive compressors and C tuning get some seriously wicked lows out of this thing, it is just not me! :)
not so much a plexi thing... cuz it does not act nor respond like a plexi--
but more like EVH's old sound from the hot for teacher and aint talking bout love days-- where volume knob on your guitar and tube output are key. Don't know if that perfectly describes it, but hope that helps.
Bold gives you a louder, slightly tighter sound than spongy...
Spongy gives you a lower output and more "brown sound" type feel.
But really, the most notable difference is the output-- if the master volume is at the same position, the output is significantly greater with switch in bold.
man! the tone on this thing is great! i was planning on getting a roadster but my brother always told me that rectifiers blow easily. but i think im gonna buy one anyways cause this just sounds wayyyyy to good, and i dont even know if thats true...
Tab for it? I play it in drop d... it is pretty easy, so try it!
I tried a Dual Rec before I discovered the roadster, and I hated it. Too brittle sounding. Great for nu metal, not for me. Found the roadster, so much smoother than the standard dual rec. Only advice is try turning the gain down and the mids up a bit... just a thought. Good luck.
To smoothen up a Dual Rec Solo head you gotta crank up the bass and lose the presence. Try channel 3, Modern, Presence at about 11 oclock, Gain about 3 oclock (I know that seems a lot but I used to have a standard dual rec too lol)mid about 11:30, trble about 1:00, also try keeping the FX loop 'on' in the sense that the output control is on, then put the channel master at about 1030. that should do something for it. Reverb helps A LOT. Not loads, but a touch of Verb should make a big difference.
I've had a roadster for just over a week and just a half hour ago it stopped working. I was letting it warm up for a bit (maybe 10 minutes) and when I went back to play it it was off. There is no sign of power at all. nothing lights up or warms up. Kinda sucks for me. If you know what the problem might be give me a shout.
I had a Roadster head for about 6 months and just couldnt get it to sound good at any volume other than very LOUD! Since I am currently not in a band it just didnt work out.... My Mark IV sounds good at any volume but lacks that full / punchy bottom end found in the rectifier series.
hi. nice set-up and playing. sounds awesome. i have a gibson les paul classic and i want a new rig. mesa cabs better then orange or marshall etc? i'm looking for something with high gain and low end. recommend a head? please help?
p.s besides your half-stack what was the set-up you had along side that tuner, looks all professioanl and i don't know what it is x
Ok, start with the cabs... I really hate saying which cab is "better" than another just cuz it is all about what your personal taste is. The boogie cab has loads of low end, and can handle copious amounts of gain!
As far as heads go, Orange are always cool (not for me though), Marshall are cool (but I only like the early 90's JCM 900 MKiii 2100), and Boogie heads are good, but I only like Roadster and Roadking.
My rack constantly changes, so there is a new vid soon of my new rack!
do you have any problems with your reverb on your roadster? When i have channel 3 or 4 on with reverb, switching to channel 1 or 2 i get a "wooosh" just after changing to clean? any problems with yours?
I went to Guitar Center in ATL with the intention of buying the dual rec half stack and really hated it. The distortion was really brittle and not smooth.
I tried the Roadster head, and although it is the "same" channel 3 and 4 as chan 1 and 2 on the Dual Rec, it was way smoother and creamier distortion.
Sooooooo... I guess it depends on what music you play. A head and spkr cab are *always* better than a combo for many reasons.... but in this case, I dunno! :(
I've tested the roadster combo, only on low volume, but it even sounded worse than my line 6 spider on that volume, I also checked out the lonestar combo, which was really nice sounding at the same volume. I also think that distored sounds always sound better with head and cab, but cleans are still better in a combo.
Thanks for the reply man! I have a 3 channel head with closed back cab right now, & I am happy with it, careful w/ the gain though. It is just blowing me away sometimes powerwise (ehem, sometimes) and I want to be able to get a little break up with the tubes once I move into a townhouse.
Sounds like the best advice would be to sell the head & get the roadster head. I was thinking combo b/c of price but I don't want to lose alot of bottom end. What are the downfalls of combo's in your opinion?
My Egnater Rebel gets kind of noisy when I have things (specifically my DL4 Delay) in the loop, so I was looking into getting this to kill the hum. Do you think you could make a demo of just the hush? A clip with it off, and a clip with it on? I can't find any demos on YouTube of it, and my local stores don't carry it...
Sounds awesome dude! Mesa Roadster is one of my top three dream amps. Would you happen to know if the DTR-1000 is accurate/responsive enough to set up guitars, like adjust intonation and stuff?
Cool! just read your message, how does that work then because my furman only allows IEC style leads too and from it, so if the roadster has a three prong plug how can i power it through my Furman? Cheers!!
Hi there, is the roadster powered by it's own AC cable built into the amp itself? or does it accept IEC kettle style removable cables to power it? just curious as i wanna hook up my Furman power conditioner to it..Cheers!! apologies if i've asked this question twice as my first post never got put up.

Hey man, great tone!! i think i'm gonna purchase a roadster, i've owned a dual rec in the past but as i hear these roadsters are tighter and smoother sounding, just wondered does it manage to sound good at bedroom volume? does the tone suffer?
Hi, nice sound! I have one question, I looked all over the net and just can't find the prices por the mesas (I live in Argentina and soon be travelling to the US) and want to know how much does the mesa boogie roadster cost (the head) I am between the marshall JVM410 and the mesa, which one you think is better? I will try them, but just to get a clue, and please could you tell me how much does a mesa boogie roadster costs brand new, I will really appreciate it, thanks
How does that Hush C work for ya? Do they have a pedal form in that? I'm looking for some kind of noise gate but I don't want anything htat would kill my tone. You think just going witha compressor for low volume would suffice?
love the Rocktron. It works great, and does come in pedal form. Despite a few negative reviews, if set up properly (as you can hear in my video) it will not rob any tone.
I would not use your compressor with low volume. Just my preference, but to me a heavy distortion with a compressor added does not have a very natural sound... maybe just me, but I only use a Schwalls Modified Maxon compressor a little bit on my clean channels.
I just got the same half stack and a les paul studio, but i am having some troubles getting that thick crunch sound out of it. I've tried about everything i could. Would you mind telling me what settings you have on the head? And is the rack the only effects you have running?
well if ther both good id rather save 70 bucks n get the hush haha im also debating on gettin either the roadster or a stilletto...i just sold my dual rectifier n thought i wanted somthin diferent n wanted to go with the stiletto until i played both back to back n i def loved how the roadster sounds like a dual rec but tighter n smoother....how do u like the amp and have u had any problems with it
the roadster and the dual rec are the same circuitry (chnls 3 and 4 on the roadster), but I agree it sounds smoother. I was wanting a dual rec until i played it side by side with the roadster, and the distortion is warmer and smoother on the roadster. The stiletto is like a hot-rodded marshal, great in it's own right, but not what I wanted.
I have had 0 problems with my amp. Love it, and would not replace it with anything right now! Good luck.
hey, i'm looking into getting a mesa boogie. i don't know where to land my foot into it first. i know now that the marks are out of production .. i was a tad late?.. there are alot of different types of rectifers and the roadster is one of them? i'm kinda confused =/ please help =] !
dude.. go to mesa boogie website and do some research. You can still get the mark series! It all depends on what kind of music you play to recommend something to you...
Mark series is out of production. You can still get one on Ebay though, there is always 3 or 4 going for sale. I got a mid 90's Mark IV short head in awesome condition from there a week ago.
Dude... get a power conditioner. If you are building a rack, even an inexpensive one, you need it. It is basically a power strip on 'roids. You have to have one...
love it... problem is you have to turn to see the rack, but you can see it from long distances. It is best tuner I have owned... never liked the boss tu-2. Just me...
I don't know... some people say the straight sounds better. I tend to agree, but I like the look of the slant cab with a half stack better... just preference I guess.
But my opinion isn't yours! I have played an Engl blackmore, but never a powerball. The blackmore to me has a warmer sound than what I have heard from the powerball--- which I like more than a really brittle sounding brutal distortion. People would disagree with me, though!
That is why I like the boogie roadster so much. It has a really heavy, but still warm and smooth distortion. so I can go from just a slight bluesy punch to all out heavy. It is really up to you.
i just came back from atlanta for a between the buried and me concert, but i went up early to get good sushi and play on the rectoverb i'll eventually purchase :)
Man your so lucky :( You bought your Roadster at a good time haha the price has gone up and its $2300 including tax. Its a hefty cost but im buying one in a couple of weeks! I really wanted the Road King but then I realized how I wouldn't even use half the features so I am quite content with the Roadster :) Let me know what your favourite thing about this amp is!
I wanted the road king as well, but really the only difference that *I* would have used is the EL34's. I did not need 2 FX loops, did not need 2 spkr outs, etc.
The roadster sounds great, you will love it. Sorry about the cost! I guess I did get it at a good time. Swallowing 1899 was tough enough for me, I can't imagine 2300!!
I just purchased the roadster combo and I am having trouble dialing in the tone. Your tone sounds amazing. Can you please send me your settings for channel 4?

do you have any problems with your reverb on your roadster? When i have channel 3 or 4 on with reverb, switching to channel 1 or 2 i get a "wooosh" just after changing to clean? any problems with yours?
widowsmite 3 years ago
cant say i have noticed any problems with my reverb... I will try that though and see what it does.
to be completely honest, I only use reverb on the clean channel (for me chan 2), and that is only some of the time.
0m1nous 3 years ago
Nice one dude, try it out. i have reverb on 1/2 on all 4 channels. try that :D

roadster 2x12 combo or dual rectifier 3 channel halfstack? would you lose alot of bottom end if you played out of a 2x12?
B2Rockin 3 years ago
tough question...
0m1nous 3 years ago
I've tested the roadster combo, only on low volume, but it even sounded worse than my line 6 spider on that volume, I also checked out the lonestar combo, which was really nice sounding at the same volume. I also think that distored sounds always sound better with head and cab, but cleans are still better in a combo.
drmsgtrplayer 3 years ago
Thanks for the reply man! I have a 3 channel head with closed back cab right now, & I am happy with it, careful w/ the gain though. It is just blowing me away sometimes powerwise (ehem, sometimes) and I want to be able to get a little break up with the tubes once I move into a townhouse.
Sounds like the best advice would be to sell the head & get the roadster head. I was thinking combo b/c of price but I don't want to lose alot of bottom end. What are the downfalls of combo's in your opinion?
B2Rockin 2 years ago
well... the thing is...
in my opinion, a head/spkr cab will ALWAYS be better than a combo.
A combo will ALWAYS be more convenient than a head/spkr cab.
So I personally prefer the head/spkr cab idea, and the Roadster head is wicked... much smoother distortion than the Dual/Triple Rec.
Let me know if I can help any mroe...

How is that Rocktron Hush? Looking into getting one..does it kill tone?
GNRjungle87 3 years ago
its great. Cant say enough good things about it.
I use it with the Boogie, and with a Marshall JCM 2000 combo, and it does not kill tone on either (when used properly).
if anything, on the Boogie it actually enhances the tone, believe it or not.
0m1nous 3 years ago
Haha, nice!
GNRjungle87 3 years ago
i'll see what i can do...
just make sure you have the delay unit AFTER the rocktron so that you get the nice natural taper off...
the manual on the rocktron says to have it as the last thing in your loop, but this kills the delay trail because there is no "signal" coming in.
look for the demo possibly tomorrow. Got nothing better to do ! :)

Sounds awesome dude! Mesa Roadster is one of my top three dream amps. Would you happen to know if the DTR-1000 is accurate/responsive enough to set up guitars, like adjust intonation and stuff?
guitaratic 3 years ago
you definetely could with the DTR-1000. personally I like the boss tu-12 for set-ups, and the DTR for stage/gig.
Problem with the DTR for stage is it has to be visible, not sitting behind the speaker cab.
0m1nous 3 years ago
Thanks for the advice. I might have to go check out both.
guitaratic 3 years ago
thats the kind tone im looking for..
I play at church.. so im looking for a tone, really melodic, so i can solo while people kinda pray and the music just get on them.
Those amp sound great dude... u think i can get that tone with a Mesa and Strato?
coolbrazilianboy 3 years ago
wow even though i perfer the vaccum tubes, youve got it sounding awesome with the diodes!

carlosdlguerra 3 years ago

0m1nous 3 years ago
well..
i just wanted to know witch have the coolest cleanest sound cause distortion i have:P
do you know some vid that shows the clean sound of the mesa boogie?
or could you do a vid with a demo
that would be awsome
thanks and keep rockin
carlosdlguerra 3 years ago
out of town for a few days, but I will do a clean channel demo when I get back...
I will be honest, it is not the BEST clean sound I have heard (BEST being a VERY strong word), but it is a fantastic clean sound.

Cool! just read your message, how does that work then because my furman only allows IEC style leads too and from it, so if the roadster has a three prong plug how can i power it through my Furman? Cheers!!
Jaymze9370 3 years ago
hmm, my furman has US plugs... not the uk weird things (well, weird to me!).
So the roadster just plugs right in...
guess I am no help!
0m1nous 3 years ago
Hi there, is the roadster powered by it's own AC cable built into the amp itself? or does it accept IEC kettle style removable cables to power it? just curious as i wanna hook up my Furman power conditioner to it..Cheers!! apologies if i've asked this question twice as my first post never got put up.
Jaymze9370 3 years ago
Could you send me your settings please?

good job man but i wanna ask you
why does the sound fade out then fade in?

Hey man, great tone!! i think i'm gonna purchase a roadster, i've owned a dual rec in the past but as i hear these roadsters are tighter and smoother sounding, just wondered does it manage to sound good at bedroom volume? does the tone suffer?
Jaymze9370 3 years ago
bedroom volume is great. The vid here is just above bedroom volume.
There is a minimal loss of tone at low volume, it still sounds great. Not nearly the loss of tone that I have experienced with other tube amps.
I went out to buy a dual rec when I got the roadster, it is truly warmer and better sounding (less brittle) than the dual rec.

I will try them, but just to get a clue, and please could you tell me how much does a mesa boogie roadster costs brand new, I will really appreciate it, thanks
lasherasboy 3 years ago
The prices change, and are set by Boogie, so the price is the same any place you go. I think they are going for around 2,000 now, but not sure.
0m1nous 3 years ago
How does that Hush C work for ya? Do they have a pedal form in that? I'm looking for some kind of noise gate but I don't want anything htat would kill my tone. You think just going witha compressor for low volume would suffice?
DigitalVirus 3 years ago
love the Rocktron.
0m1nous 3 years ago
How's the pedal so much cheaper? It's 80 bucks compared to the rack that's like 200 something.
DigitalVirus 3 years ago
wow! I don't know.
I got mine about a year ago and it was 150 then!
I do not think the circuitry is different, but I am not electrician and could not read a schematic to save my life.
0m1nous 3 years ago
didn't mean to say compressor as that would increase the noise...
DigitalVirus 3 years ago
I just got the same half stack and a les paul studio, but i am having some troubles getting that thick crunch sound out of it. I've tried about everything i could. Would you mind telling me what settings you have on the head? And is the rack the only effects you have running?
saint1343 3 years ago
check your messages...
0m1nous 3 years ago
hey how is the rocktron hush noisegate you have compared to the pedal version and is it as good as the isp decimator
brbong 3 years ago
I hear... HEAR that the rack and pedal versions are identical... have not had a side by side comparo.
The ISP is great... I think it is just as good. you will not go wrong with either.
0m1nous 3 years ago
well if ther both good id rather save 70 bucks n get the hush haha im also debating on gettin either the roadster or a stilletto...i just sold my dual rectifier n thought i wanted somthin diferent n wanted to go with the stiletto until i played both back to back n i def loved how the roadster sounds like a dual rec but tighter n smoother....how do u like the amp and have u had any problems with it
brbong 3 years ago
the roadster and the dual rec are the same circuitry (chnls 3 and 4 on the roadster), but I agree it sounds smoother.

28monkeyking28 3 years ago
dude.. go to mesa boogie website and do some research. You can still get the mark series! It all depends on what kind of music you play to recommend something to you...
hope this helps.
0m1nous 3 years ago
Mark series is out of production. You can still get one on Ebay though, there is always 3 or 4 going for sale. I got a mid 90's Mark IV short head in awesome condition from there a week ago.
DigitalVirus 3 years ago
guess I am wrong. My newest Boogie catalog has the mark IV's in there (2008)...
Just took my own advice and went to the website and it does say "out of production", so DigitalVirus is correct.

im going to start building a rack now of my own and lots of people tell me to buy a power conditioner first
what does a furman power conditioner do?
StanwoodSpartans 3 years ago
Dude... get a power conditioner. If you are building a rack, even an inexpensive one, you need it. It is basically a power strip on 'roids. You have to have one...
0m1nous 3 years ago
how do you like that korg tuner?
sammyR191 3 years ago
love it... problem is you have to turn to see the rack, but you can see it from long distances. It is best tuner I have owned... never liked the boss tu-2. Just me...
0m1nous 3 years ago
what made you go for the slant rectifier 4x12 instead of the straight?
bchamorro 3 years ago
I don't know... some people say the straight sounds better. I tend to agree, but I like the look of the slant cab with a half stack better... just preference I guess.
0m1nous 3 years ago
Is this better than Engl For metal?
elsielsis 3 years ago
In my opinion? NO!
0m1nous 3 years ago
you have a nice rack : ). haha, I'm probaby gonna get a roadster or a road king.
blahman178 3 years ago
you will not be disappointed with either. Very, very versatile.

how much did a mesa roadster with the cab?
silentkiller0123 3 years ago
The head cost me 1899, and the cab I think was 799... pre-tax, US prices.
0m1nous 3 years ago
do guitar centers in US sell mesa amps?
silentkiller0123 3 years ago
From what I have seen, most do.
I got mine in Atlanta, but the one in Jacksonville, FL did not carry them at that time.
0m1nous 3 years ago
not all guitar centers carry mesas.
punkdude543 3 years ago
hell, the closest one to me is in arlington texas :[
i went there one time JUST to play a mesa.
it was freakin' sweet!

i just came back from atlanta for a between the buried and me concert, but i went up early to get good sushi and play on the rectoverb i'll eventually purchase :)
punkdude543 3 years ago
Man your so lucky :( You bought your Roadster at a good time haha the price has gone up and its $2300 including tax. Its a hefty cost but im buying one in a couple of weeks! I really wanted the Road King but then I realized how I wouldn't even use half the features so I am quite content with the Roadster :) Let me know what your favourite thing about this amp is!
skaught911 3 years ago
I wanted the road king as well, but really the only difference that *I* would have used is the EL34's. I did not need 2 FX loops, did not need 2 spkr outs, etc.
The roadster sounds great, you will love it. Sorry about the cost! I guess I did get it at a good time. Swallowing 1899 was tough enough for me, I can't imagine 2300!!

what are your settings?
heavymetaljim 3 years ago
Chan 4 modern, 100w, silicon diodes. Master power on SPONGY, just because I am inside the house. I use the BOLD setting for live shows.
I have a korg AX3000g through the loop providing the delay, and a rocktron hush super C in the loop.
Strip is like this: mstr vol 10 o'clock, presence 1-2 o'clock, bass 1-2 o'clock, mid 9 o'clock, treb 12 o'clock, gain 3 o'clock.
I hate giving settings out though, because I feel that you will sound like YOU through my amp, and I will sound like ME! :)
