I had this surgery about 9 years ago and it changed my life...I'm now 29 and loving life. I had this surgery, along with two others so soon as the following two months! I had my wisdom teeth taken out as well as an operation to remove the frenulum muscle that connects your upper gums to your lip. My muscle was a little too big and doctor said over time it would eventually split the two front teeth apart. I have to say, of those three surgeries the recovery was relatively easy.
well has been 6 weeks when i did the operation still i can't full open my jaws cuz of my left jaw it hurts ! but overall i'm so happy i did it cuz i had a open bite and my upper bit was small then the under bit so they need to wide that up to the under bit and center it in the middle. About the recover sensibility on lips and cheeks well mine is after 6 weeks still a little bit on anesthesia it's just a small part of my lips and a small part of my chin besides that cheeks are no more sensibel.
Had this done (just top jaw) two weeks ago. Recovery hasn't really been that bad so far. Little to no pain, the worst thing was the sinus pressure, but some saline rinse took care of that. The liquid diet isn't as bad as I thought it would be at all. You lose your appetite pretty quick, so you don't even want to drink, much less eat. I got 9 days left until I *think* I'll be cleared to eat.
Damn it, people!! Don't do shit like this, for f......k sake, go to gym, eat more or less. there's no need to transform your body just for better looks. It doesn't matter you are pretty or ugly, if you fu..ked up in your head. Don't be pushed by the environment and social (TV, "glamorous" celebrities, etc.) influence. If you are ugly, you may shine from your inside. Have more confidence.
@wickeed100 I had this done not for cosmetic but for functionality. I just had my lower jaw advanced and now my bite is perfect. Eating and oral hygiene is alot easier now with aligned jaws and straight teeth.
@nitestryker7 I understand if it is for health sake as in your case. Good to hear that it solved a lot of problems for you. First when I saw this movie, I thought that it's a broken jaw surgery. It's very convenient, I thought. But if people are doing this just to make their jaw slimmer or to lift it and look nicer, then it's f...ked up.
i have braces and my ortho removed two teeth from top and two from bottom. but my bottom teeth were really crowded so it really was necessary to remove my 2 bottom teeth. but my top teeth i have 1 crooked tooth. so now i have two big gaps. and i really dont think my teeth will close that gap..
F#$k me hard!!! I'm getting this done in 10 months and i believe they'll have to sedate me without my knowledge before they bring me to the hospital. Dang it!
I had this done about 9 months ago with just my top jaw. It was scary but I never had any pain apart from a couple of headaches when I was out of hospital
I had this surgery 4 years ago and my little brother had this same one last week. I dont suggest looking at this before you have the surgery but it is very informative to know what happened after the fact. If anyone has any questions about the procedure and the healing process after. Feel free. Though it looks painful, the sacrifice is all worth the result. Good luck all :)
can you feel the screws threw your skin?.. i'm getting this done soon and the operation doesn't scare me.. it's the idea of feeling the metal threw my skin.
Had this surgery recently, did not use the morphine button in hospital and only used one pain killer, due to my teeth aching from nerves coming back, uncomfortble but totally worth it, send me a message if anyone wants to know anything =D
i had an accident and it broke my jaw.. the thing is they cut my skin to place the plate on my jaw bone... now, it formed a keloid.. was my doctor wrong?
@alteredgrind It was virtually painless. The first 2 days home from the hospital were uncomfortable and I could not get enought ice but as long as I took my meds every 4 hours on the dot I was good, I did take advil in between when it was hurting but it wasn't bad, I didn't feel like i needed meds less tahn two weeks after
@alteredgrind I had this done a while back, looks a it yucky but it's not really painful. I still have most of my painkillers left, took very few in fact! I guess the temporary nerve damage has it's benefits. Best of luck if you're getting this done!
I'm having this done in a few months. I'm assuming you have/had sleep apnea? Are you completely off of CPAP/BiPAP? Didyou know the severity of your sleep apnea, or CPAP/BiPAP pressures?
I'm severe myself. Obviously the goal is to come off BiPAP altogether, but my Dr. said there are other things that can be done to help after.
I'm having the Le Fort I, a suture through the base of my tongue, and my my chin bone pulled out.
I had this surgery done 5 years ago. The recovery was definitely rough at first, but if I had to do it over again I would in a heartbeat!! Completely worth it!!
continued: i almost dropped to the floor when he very casually said that he would leave it like that. it actually heals it self. no need for stitching if it keeps popping off. and to my surprise, that side healed much more beautifully and evenly than the stitched side.
well worth the swelling and the wires and the liquid/soft food...the hardest part for me was that i had to be wired shut and couldnt eat soft food [never mind real solid food] for 6 weeks...i had gaps in my teeth still so that helped suck in the "food", but you have to be careful how hard you suck in because it will pop your stitches . it happened to me on one side [ i had front seat tickets to my damm jaw bone!-not fun]. happened twice. the second time the doctor just left it open, unstiched.
i had this done a couple of years back. the initial recovery is really tough but the end result is well worth. i'm just glad i didn't see this video before i had it done!
i had this surgery at June. Now i'm very very happy. The result is perfect and the numbness on my lips has nearly gone. but the video is terrifying. the most important thing for patients is healing period after this: can't speak, can't eat, can't smile, just freaking swollen face. then if the things goes on the way everything is being tolerable in 4 weeks. i wish sooooo much luck to all.
@yourboy47 I had it done less than 3 monthes ago, including the hospital, anestesia, and oral surgeon is was 35,000 but my insurance paid for about 31,000 of the surgery
just had this done 6 days ago. besides the pain meds, i'm using homeopathy for the swelling and to help mend the bones...swelling has greatly decreased.
arnica, horsetail, symphatum officianal are just three of the good herbs to use!
Had this surgery in December 2009 and I just can now watch the Youtubes. So freaky watching the plates go in now and I can feel them at my gum line and in my face.
whoa this looks unreal... as in sci-fi kinda unreal to me. aha
im getting this done next year. what the hell was that tool that cut through the bone so easily? i wonder how easy it is to slip n cut through a nerve...
I'm about to have this surgery too but I have a big lower jaw. They are going to reduce my lower jaw and push it back. I am going to have this surgery in 2 years.
I just had the bottom jaw procedure and genioplasty done. I am experiencing pressure and occasional pain in both of my joints and feels like they are worse than before the surgery. It's been 10 days since the surgery. Should I be worried?
i would also add that while it can improve your appearance, the real reason for this operation is functionality. having an underbite can destroy your teeth and cause severe TMJ in the long run. i put it off originally when i was 18 because everything seemed functionally fine, then developed TMJ that I had to live with for 2 years before eventually getting it done at age 24. so basically, if you are told by an orthodontist or other dental expert that you need it done, dont put it off.
i had the upper almost 3 weeks ago now. no real pain issues after the first couple of days (morphine drip in the hospital stay and vicodin/loratab does the trick after that). dont worry about the surgical aspect, you will not be awake. its not painful you will just be swollen and numb for a while. by far the worst part is waiting to be able to eat real food, by FAR; everything else is just kinda an annoyance. so really the only thing to fear is a blended diet.
help me im getting this done by force after two months since both family and docter say that my situation is only getting worse by the time (like one cm overbite now and it has been proved that it will affect my very bad like breathing and to little place for the tongue and so on) but i stopped the video as soon as i saw the first blood since i got afraid. what to do if i get afraid for other people how am i myself going to have it done !! the tears just keep falling :(
help me someone please !! i really like to be pretty and everything and i also am determined to do as much plastic surgery as it requries to be the most beautiful person i have seen, but i am going to have this surgery done because have like one cm between upper and underbite so i saw a little about it on the internet and is this not worse than a nosejob ? or facetight ? it looks really scarry and the tears relly keep falling down now i've become so afraid and i'm going to have the surgery soon

hi, i also had both upper and lower jaw surgery last year, u will survive too, don't panik! and maybe it would be better not to watch such movies before, cause they are really scary!
I just talked to my surgen today the very first time... and said the same thing " hope this will not kill me"...lol... and he said in his 30 years of doing this not 1 single person ever died..
I will have this done next spring....
not sure when you will have it but I wish you luck and the very best outcome....
do they put you to sleep ?

My ortho is recommending it just to make my upper jaw the same width as my lower jaw to avoid unnecessary teeth extractions with braces.

I just talked to my surgen today the very first time... and said the same thing " hope this will not kill me"...lol... and he said in his 30 years of doing this not 1 single person ever died..
I will have this done next spring....
not sure when you will have it but I wish you luck and the very best outcome....
