  • Everyone but Americans are getting the IQ with 65 mpg. So who is it that is keeping fuel efficient car out of our country.

  • Its not under $16k. I hate when ppl quote starting msrp from the manufacturers when you go to the dealership and they dont offer any model near the starting price. Real price at a dealership is almost $20k. Just like the smart car they advertised $11k but when you went to a dealership it was $20k+. Cool car but overpriced.

  • My 03 Honda Civic gets better mpg then the IQ

  • Upper 30's mpg??? Really. And this guy was impressed with that for a car this small? My 1985 cavalier stick shift that was rusted out and $600 did that. My 91 Escort did 40 mpg. Try again buddy!

  • Fiat 500 Abarth is faster and better styled.

  • Went in the the Scion dealer in Kingston, Ontario today to put a deposit on a black one for delivery in November I hope. I'll be driving the first one in Kingston. I've debated about the Smart Fourtwo for years, finally a similar alternative arrives that fills in all the holes that the Smart leaves out...ie wider body and a back seat. Can't wait to show mine off.

  • When I was at the L.A. Auto Show in 2010 people were talking loudly that it's not safe and that it was too small. I only have three things to say to you all.

You're too fat. Start exercising. Do a little research which is why you have a brain.

  • I'm seriously thinking of getting one of these when I go shopping next year. I'm only an inch taller than that guy and he fits in without any issue.

Hell, who knows though, might talk myself into looking at the Fiats too

  • having 4 seats is a big mistake for this car. 2 seats would have been much better.

  • for $15,900 that's too much. It should be in the 13k. Those damn ugly rear red round light were used in the corolla and the 2011 XB.

  • Did that guy say it will get 30 miles??? Hope I just misunderstood. I love toyota, but might have to get the Nissan Leaf, if that is true.

  • @richardandrewsjr it gets high 30s MPG, great on gas, actually 35ish

  • @wtf000000000000 my saturn sl1 '94 was 35mpg brand new, and it is a 4door full.

  • lol this looks BEAST! You can't even compare it to a ForTwo, because it has 3.5 seats! Not a lousy 2. I mean, do they really expect someone drivingthose hideous Smarts will need a second seat? This is gonna be the next best thing in America since the Fiat 500!

  • this should remain a concept until better MPG can be reached. and take out the back seats that's just stupid!!!

  • ahmm..too small..........XD

  • Death Trap

  • if this thing was turbocharged and got like 150 to 190 hp it would be huge. especially because it was also get better gas millage. if it was turbo charged but was also rwd i would buy one the day it came out. it would be such a fun car.

  • I sat in the little dishwasher. Those rear seats are a penalty box for anyone who would care to be your second passenger. Then the lack of any sort of storage (not even a glovebox) is a turnoff for anyone who likes to carry any sort of documentation with them...

The boot is hopeless with the seats up.

Worst yet, Toyota expects it to hit mid 30s US MPG and to have a close to $14k base price. Smart killer? Maybe not...

  • I don't back to be in the backseats. :D

  • If more people drove these cars we wouldn't be so hung up on the notion that you need a big(ger) car to survive an accident. As it is now, no one wants to be a guinea pig so every one will continue to perpetuate the idea that bigger is safer. Great car for city commute but being a North American, it's just not sound when mid size sedans make you look like a toy on the road.

  • That looks like the perfect size car for our family. I'm not a big fan of huge cars just to carry school supplies and baby strollers.

  • I have a toyota version for europe, and it has 1.4 liter engine with 5 manual gears... I don't get it why doesn't scion do the same in us...

  • Mpg high 30's ??? Lame - i was expecting high 40s - how is this going to compete with fiesta, cruze and elantra ? Scion is overrated - mediocre quality for higher price - thanks to toyota.

  • I came here a while back and shrugged it off as overpriced. Yahoo had a story on it today and I was interested, but 16K for a BASE model?

C'MON! It should be 9K!!!! I'd pay 16K for a model with leather and a sunroof. This car reminds me of a YARIS, CHEAP CAR!

  • yet another sick car thats ruined again with no option of a full manuel transmission ..good job Scion for messing up like Smart did. I will only get 1 of these if theres a way to get a 5 or 6 speed tranny , and not a stupid gimmick like paddle shifters or "auto stick"

  • @skunkmouse oh and also make it rear wheel drive

  • What's the point? the yaris gets 35 mpg and is huge compared to this? why didn't they put the 3 cyl engine in it, like in europe?

  • Summer?! Lame. I've been really looking forward to test driving one of these on the road. 16k is also an awful lot to ask. Surely Toyota can still sell it for a profit at 10k no? :(

  • When is this car coming to the U.S.? It looks very fun to just drive around in the city.

  • @smashbrosfan13 He mentioned it in the video. The lastest report says the car won't be out till summer cause they don't want to overshadow tC sales.

  • id buy a fiat for the same money

  • 30MPG?

  • Saw these all over Italy while on vacation, loved it.

  • Nice car... but 16K is too much for this car. Should be less than 10K.

  • WHY EVERY CAR THAT ENTERS US GROUND THE AMERICANS (AS US PEOPLE)HAVE TO CHANGE THE ENGINE? THIS CAR IN JAPAN IS A 3 CYLINDER ENGINE WHY IT HAS TO BE A 4 CYLINDER IN THE US? DAM YOU OIL COMPANIES!!!! BURN IN HELL WITH YOUR INFLUENCE!!!

  • I'm gay and I think think this car is great!

  • I've got one here in Finland. It's sold as a Toyota IQ over here. Good milage, drives nice, specially in little higher speeds (over 100 kmh), war in the winter nad plenty of room for two adults and their weekend gear. Two hockey bags or two Samsonites etc. Overall a nice car.

  • another piece of shit from toyota. Christ, what's wrong with toyota these days? They can't do anything right anymore.

  • @unchiman666 SHUT UP!!! THIS CAR IS AWESOME AND YOU KNOW IT!

  • @unchiman666 go back driving your POS Chevy

  • it's like a shrunken yaris. But still pretty cool.

  • Looks better than the Smartcar.

  • UGGGGGHHHH!!!!!! When is this micro compact car craze going to end? These things are just HORRIBLE!! Why would anyone go to a car dealer, look at this ugly duck, and say "man, thats the car for me. I bet it would look sweet in black"? Probably some tree hugging left wing nazi, chicks, or fags.

  • Am I missing something or in the event of a rear crash your rear occupants (on the rear window) are going to take a massive hit to the head whether or not it has an airbag?

  • this little thing cant be safe

  • @psycosquirrel789 It has a butt airbag...

This only means that Toyota is counting on airbags to save your life rather than solid steel or any other safety tech.

  • not wortyh more than 9999

  • i'll be buying the mazda 2 since it's cheaper than the iq and it has way more room too.

  • this car is smaller than my penis and is 4x more than my focus

  • buy a ford fiesta 13,000 bigger and 40 mpg

  • i got matchbox cars bigger than that

  • Too cheap for me, but a nice car. I'm glad they are making ultra compacts more available in the states.

  • hotbox the shyat out of that car

  • Scion IQ because toyota is retarded

  • I don't know if this guy has kids. Any time you take them anywhere, thats when you require cargo space. Kids come with stuff. But when you carry the kids in the IQ you have no room for stuff. You only have room for stuff when you don't have the kids. Kind of circularly useless.

  • @ndokite This car isn't meant for mom to drive the kids to soccer practice, its meant for young adults to drive themselves and a friend or two around town.

  • @ndokite Yes, because everyone has or wants kids. /sarcasm

I think this is targeted at college kids and people in their 20s who 90% of the time just have themselves and maybe a backpack and some groceries in their car.

  • semis would have to be outlawed before i ever drove this thing on the highway. ridiculous!

  • it would suck if the cars full and someone farts

  • @187chona It would suck if the car is full and everyone farts. And then someone lights a match...

  • @gxcad no that would just give the car a extra boost

  • @gxcad Iraq has nothing on this natural bomb!

  • There is actually a video showing 2 6ft people sitting back to back in the passenger side. While not roomy, their knees were clear. Unlike the smart, it has the flexibility of having boot space or a third seat, which is nice. It doesn't compete with the Yaris because the Yaris is longer. Not by much, but enough to make a HUGE difference when parallel parking in a city like where I live (San Francisco). So I guess it depends how you look at it. I think its more suited as a second car than a main.

  • @gxcad Who would even want to sit in the rear is they have to be cramped? And sadly, nobody seems to question what would happen in a rear impact with the rear passengers' heads on the window. Sure there's an airbag there but the car needs some space to crumple...Even the smart has small crumple zones on each end...

Even with the seats "folded" down, it only gives it slightly more boot space than a smart's boot and the same if you were to fold down the smart's seat...

  • Comment removed

  • @gxcad Nah, I have nothing against Scion really (other than the obvious no rwd in the tC and high MSRP).

It's just that cars(.)com has to be the most biased car reviewing group on the planet. It's utterly insane how they can claim that the iQ, a car costing more, less roomy, less mpg, less performance, with cheap interior is a better car!

This guy is the same guy that reviewed the smart and the very things he hates about the smart he likes about the iQ...

  • @gxcad Get me a link to that video showing 2 6ft people sitting back to knees in the passenger seat.

Looking at this reviewer in the back with the seat all the way forward looks cramped

  • bahahahahahhahahahahahahahaha this is prolly the gayest thing ive ever seeeeen

  • Owning a Scion = Greatest automotive fail ever...

  • @Neonspinnazz30 na....owning a NEON...greatest fail ever...LOL

  • @rsxzx6r Thankfully I've never had the pleasure of being anywhere near one...If it ever happens, out comes the paper bag for my head...

  • 16k is too expensive

  • @DJTEVAdotCOM it says under, but lets see

  • Can't wait for this to come to Canada! Finally, the ForTwo gets some competition.

  • its a 2 door xD

  • I personally think that this car ROCKS ! I think it gonna be halirious... in a very good way to own one! The only think I wish that they will have the 5 or 6 speed manual stick for this "LITTLE WARRIOR" ! It would be so much more fun to drive, I believe so! Of course, because it is a Scion,I would expect a lot of cool upgrade items for it. To me,I would love to put 18 inches tires and wheels combo with a lower suspension. I really dont care about the so called "0-60MPH". THIS BABE ROCKS! INDEED.

  • This guy is so off key when he constantly compares the IQ to such icon cars as the Mini Cooper which has been around and the Smart for two which is a car in its own class. The only real issue is his obvious smart assed comment on the Smart as being "not particularly fond of". Ok his opinion is his own, but this IQ is not all that impressive in certain areas such as the backseat that is not very useable or the lack of space behind it. The Smart seats two, but has real space behind the seats.

  • On one hand you don't like the Smart, but you like the Scion iQ, weird!!!

To me it looks like a double standard here. Zero trunk space when you seat people in the rear, but you seem to ignore that point. Then again, let's look at your "2009 Smart ForTwo Passion Video Review" and we see that many of the gripes on the Smart, you just ignore for the Scion.

I believe that this is just a review from a "double standard" hypocrite and car bigot.

  • its going to be a tough sell on the same dealer lots as a Yaris.

  • If you really thought the back seat was usable you would have showed us with someone in the front. You looked like an idiot squeezed into the back.

Those rear seats did NOT Fold Down.

Only 9 airbags for 4 occupants. The 2011 smart will have 8 airbags for only 2 occupants.

I sure would like to see how a child seat fits in that thing. Not sure that would even fit.

If you want more than 4 seats (real seats) get a fiesta. it gets beter MPG than the IQ.

  • They hate the smart so much they voted it as worst car of the 2000s.

    But lets compare.

    1. the smart gets 10+ more mpg than the equally sized iQ

    2. the smart's 0-60 is 5 seconds faster than the iQ

    3. the smart actually has boot space

    4. the 2011 smart has 8 airbags, all of them in the right places

    5. a fully loaded smart will cost thousands less than a fully loaded iQ

    6. the iQ will be branded as a Scion

    7. the iQ's underseat airbag is for the ass

Why the hell does he like it?

  • He likes cheap plastics...

Wait wait wait...high 30s for something the same size as a smart car?

Sure, his seat can go back, but you'll be crushing the leprechaun in the rear seat.

Talking about the rear seat, it kills 99.9% of all boot space so don't expect to go shopping...

It's bigger than the smart too and guess what, it received lower safety ratings!

This is because they tried to put 2 more seats in a car only single digits longer than a smart.

  • Why would you get this over a Yaris, a Fit, or a Fiesta? It gets slightly better mileage but it's way less practical and way more ridiculous looking. I might consider one if it got like 60MPG.

  • Really? Who would buy that crap?

  • so tiny...

  • Again another example of Toyota not understanding what their customers want..

  • "Alright, small on the outside, doesn't necessarily mean small on the inside."

Well, no kidding; haven't you learned anything from Dr. Who?

  • I payed $13,400 for my yaris hatchback(loaded). I get 38 city/42 highway and it has twice the room. I actually fit a twin size mattress and box spring with the hatch slightly open

  • fuck this shit, get a corolla! WTF is toyota thinking?

  • Comment removed

  • overpriced and looks like a deathtrap if you get into an accident, the smart for two is better and cheaper.

  • why is it more expensive than nissan cube or kia soul yet it's a smaller car?

  • Kinda doubt having an airbag will make much difference if you're sitting in the back seat and you get rammed from behind by a full sized suv or pickup truck.

  • lol Cute

  • 16k? overpriced

  • Man this is what car manufacturer's are coming out with these days? lame.

  • well you know a car this small , i really questions about is its safety. if you put people in the back row , i bet you a light rear end crash would basically crush them into pieces 0.o

  • @wtf000000000000 i believe its a two seater. they didnt specify that too clearly but if it is 4 seater yeah id agree

  • @batsaint oops my bad didnt pay attention at that part xD

  • they should have had a bigger passenger door like with the AMC Pacer.

and How about mentioning something about it being a re-badged Toyota and/or how it differentiates from the Toyota iQ...?

  • if it doesn't get atleast 40+ mpg then its a udder failure

because that's what the chevy cruse will get on the highway

    crx gets 50mpg

    2.0 accord gets 30mpg

    2.4 toyota gets 26

    1.6 nissan

    1.7 civic both get 30

so yeah if it doesnt get 40+ then its useless

  • whats with the tundra taillights?

  • Yaris killer?

  • @UNnamed66 Not really because it's the Yaris' cousin.

  • there is a certain appeal to a small car which doesnt feel cheap, i noticed metal doesnt show on the inside like on most small cars, so i imigine it prly feels cosy to drive esply in the rain

  • IQ please, more like I-am too-small- to-anyone-else-in-my-car

  • this car should not be called the IQ because it doesn't take a genius to know that people want buy this sub compact I can only have one person at a time in my car while driving piece of car

  • @mrlovesjesus811

I think this car is marketed for people who live in the city who drive by themselves the majority of the time and occasionally has one passenger.

  • I see this as only a city car. Don't be driving one of these through your counrty-like town.

  • Deja Vu?

  • i could take a shit that looks better than this car. the interior is nice though

  • I disagree that it will be successful here, it's too small and can't really haul anything. The Smart was also predicted to be a big success here but almost nobody bought one.

  • IQ ( Intelligent Quality ).....

  • Here in Mexico and Europe it´s what we need

  • @emrom its already in europe, its marketed as the Toyota iQ

  • emrom@Isuzulu Oh I see, I've been waiting for the new Fiesta since 2008. But hopefully next year comes

  • Very interesting design. I like it!

  • Toyota??

  • @BentlyboYY Scion is made by toyota, there a japanese company

  • @BentlyboYY

dumb fuuck it's japanese not chinese.

    you fucckin prick.

you NEVER gonna get a Bently.

  • @BentlyboYY I would kinda have to agree with you there, I do feel more secure in a larger car, but, Scion is a Toyota and I have gotten in a crash in a Toyota before. a few bruises, but oh well, so if Scion is built the same way a toyota is, then its probably decently safe.

  • @Sleepinglion22 i don't blame you, but being i'm in HS, i don't have cargo to carry around (i'll give friends rides, but they can't complain, 2 seats is all i need, 3.5 is alright). i wouldn't mind driving one of these around. cept the school i go to is in a ghetto city (funny how its in the top 100 best in the US), so it'd get like beat to hell.

but for the mileage, its less gas you gotta buy, a cheaper car overall, fits in the tight spaces, gives a lot of room and isn't a joke like a SMART.

  • @Sharod101 Joke like a smart? How is it not?

    1. the smart has better safety ratings

    2. the smart has more space for you

    3. the smart is cheaper

    4. the smart gets 10+ mpg MORE!

    5. the smart is smaller, thus fits in tighter spaces

    Do your research dumbass...

  • @BentlyboYY It's Japanese dumb ass.
