What were the main reasons that you left the Amish? I remember visiting an Amish farm in 1979, when I was 17 years old...it was nice..but, I also felt bad that we were the outsiders prying into their private lives!
I still have this hex sign pendant that they sold at their store..You look like you have some really nice friends who are also funny too! That's cool!
Amish is a class of people which reside in U.K & USA & are around 350000 in no. They are bearded with no moustache. They dont use any advancement of modern age like electricity, computers T.V or refrigerators etc. Amish plough their fields with bulls & take water for drinking & irrigation from the wells. They pay taxes but dont utilize any advancement in science. No one objects to their life style but why do we object the simple life style of people of Northern areas of Pakistan & Afghanistan?
Joe Kiem is a total scum who makes good money on people who want to leave the Amish culture. A opportunist who does not like any critism. A total Wacko born-again christian.
The bible can be interprented in many ways. I have deep respect for any honest christian. I seriously doubt the honesty of mr. Joe Kiem. He gets paid by his own organisation. So indirectly he makes money from them. BTW: the most original form of christianity is the Armenian Orthodox Church who did not change their mass and habits since the 3rd century. But I bet Wacko Born Again Christians would not like their services: Too Catholic....
Born Again Christianity is just a fashionable form invented in the late 19th century to adjust the christian faith to modern times.
BTW my mother is ex-amish Schwarzentrueber and we met Joe Kiem. Therefore I know what I am talking about. And Indeed, he asks everyone for donations! His salary must be paid! I never saw a more frustrated man in my entire life.
in the years I have known Joe, he neve came up to me asking for money. And I have known him over a decade.
BTW I am not religious, but like Joe, I am also a Born Again Christion. I have been to Catholic church before, and was so bored that I had to try and keep awake. This was at my wife's great aunt and great grandma's funeral. But I would ofcourse not disrespect them by falling asleap at their funeral... Those 2 ladies were special to us. Typing this brings back memories.
I think we need organizations like F.A.R. to help recovering Catholics. I know that the lifestyle and educational limitation arent a burder for people leaving the Catholic church as they are for the Amish but the crisis of faith is just as real and just as hard to deal with, especially alone.
Actually vary true, there are simular organizations for ex-JW's, so any religion who is repressive and has members leave, those members should create a support group for other such members...
I think the problem lies in the fact that you evangelicals believe your 'love' and your 'faith-alone' is an excuse to remain married to the world and its ways. I want nothing to do with the ways of this world. Me and my house will continue to remain a people seperate unto God.
I apologize, I think I spoke out of place. Forgive me. I'm just frustrated lately with what I see happening and spoken concerning the amish and my people (the conservative mennonite) in regards to adopting the ways of the world (ie becoming evangelicals). Please, again forgive me if I've offended you in anyway. Peace and Love, Stephen
I am not mad, I have also not heard of the Amish becoming "evangelical". I am a former Amish, and this account is here to help people understand the Amish better.
I currently have no beard. But I guess it is cause they are not allowed a moustache, but for married Swartzentrubers, they have to grw their beards. They are told not to cut it after they join the church, bt have to shave the moustache...
I see some people commenting on salvation and the Amish. An Amish lady overheard me talking to a formerly Amish man, and asking if Amish believed in Christian salvation, the saving blood of Christ. He said they did. The woman listening came over and was almost in tears telling me she hated thinking that people outside of their community thought that they didn't believe in Christian salvation, because they do. So now I am a bit confused...
I don't get this "mission to Amish people", I thought they were already highly informed about the Bible and the Gospel. Wouldn't the resources be better applied to peoples who have never heard the Truth?
OK. I agree it is worth giving even professing Christians a chance to understand the doctrine of eternal security, and salvation by faith in Jesus alone.
Yes, that is what I was thinking after it was over, and by the way, this was totally random, I had no idea he was going to do that. Joe Kiem is from MAP Ministry (Mission to Amish People) I will put the link in the description.
Sweet!!Thanks for sharing.

no, he is a good guy, he does not make money from them, but he does take donations. It is called a non-profit organization.
I know he has critics, but being a born again Christion is a good thing, infact it is what the bible asks, that we be born again.

I won't lump all Amish in the same mold... they are not all the same.
I just added a few links to the description so you can get a better understanding of the Amish as I know them.

The Amish don't believe in knowing that you are saved. They do need to hear the truth just like anyone else.

Laughing here at Tom's speech. I think he should get his own Youtube channel and post speeches like that.
