Chris, I recommend you don't trade in your DSi. Later on this year(Link's 25th anniversary)they will be releasing Links 4 swords FREE on the Nintendo Shop. And i might wait for the Blue-ray DS and not buy the 3DS until the price drops and more games come out!
I only have the launch version of the DS and 3DS now.
I was going to get a DSi XL myself, but when I heard about the 3DS I cloaked myself in "the coat of patience". =O
Even if Nintendo decide to release a newer 3DS model I still won't regret that I got the current 3DS version. I got it at release in April for a campaign price which was a good amount below the current price tag. XD
3DS has the power of a PS2 I believe, if not more.

The 3DS is smaller than DSi Xl and the pen is put on the top just like on the launch version DS.
