I did this a ways back. I went spoilerless. Then got tired of that and went cobra spoiler with plugs on the two empty holes. Then I got tired of the crappy plugs and spent the money on a body shop to paint the decklid spoiler and fill in the holes professionally. So much better. Plugs look to ricer to me.
I wish you and i were friends! I have a 99 eclipse gs, and this short little spoiler isn't doin it for me, i want the loop spoiler, i think you have given me some good tips, soon i'll take a look at my car, and see if i can't apply what i've learned here
hey i know this is off video topic but im looking for this specific mustang; 2001-2002 mustang V8 5.7L 5 speed color-yellow/red for 6,000$ or lower, anyone know where i can find EXACTLY this? please help
@dontbpanzee in a dodge junkyard. new edge (99-04) mustangs dont have a fucking 5.7L you dumbass and you won't find one for that cheap even if they did. im trying not to be a troll but come on. your comment was wrong in so many places!!
@johnknight1981 Yeah I usedt work at the Home Depot here and looked all over there and couldn't find them, and not one of the staff there had a clue what I was looking for, lol. No worries though, I finally had success and found them at a different hardware store here after going in there again for one last search before I ordered some online. I have the plugs now, just need o wait until the weather warms up and the snow goes away so I can play with my pony and get it looking the way I want =)
I've looked around every hardware store in my area trying to find the proper plugs, and even a couple of auto parts supply stores and not one of these places knows what I'm talking about when I ask for the plugs, GRRRRRR. What section of the store did you find the plugs in???
When i tried to take my spoiler off my 99. The spots where the spoiler was was not painted. so i put it back on.. Any suggestions besides bringing it too a local shop and spending 200$ for a paintjob
@MrSilentKillar i see you posted this like 2 months ago but im going to guess that when they replaced it from a possible rear end collision, they did minimal painting--atleast ive noticed spots that arent so obvious that they didnt paint when my rear bumper got replaced
if anyones done this for a 99-00 mustangs spoiler can anyone tell me the size plugs i should get? i took it off and i saw 3 holes in each side 2 being the same size 1 being smaller then the other 2. Anyone have the size for those?
@Soulscarz FYI, I ended up measuring and then buying a bunch of different sizes that were close. Each pack of plugs is a dollar or less. Then I tried them all to get the best fit. Sometimes the ones that look wrong are the best fit...go figure! It seems every car can be different due to various installers of the spoilers so you will most likely measure/test for each car.
i have an 00 gt will the 01-04 wing fit in the exact same spot..i believe my gt has an extra hole like 3 and the 01+ has 2...so is it a direct bolt on and will it hid the extra hole is so???
@greekooo3 I am not 100% sure. my first thought is that the newer spoilers would not fit since the mounting points on the 02-04 spoilers are a few inches in on each side.
@Sk8FalIen the biggest risk is dropping the spoiler on your trunk lid when first removing it and scratching the paint with the threads. But it's not that bad.
@2fast4all Is there ACE in canada even? I don't think i've ever seen one in quebec at least...
Anyways I just got a few circle stickers made (3m kind). the decal place had an almost identical silver to my car. I like it, no leaks, no mess, and will be easier to remove then the plugs with no chance of taking off paint. I think it's a good ghetto solution...5$ and all of 30seconds to apply them. lol
Should be around 10 bucks...I can't remember exactly. It is a perfect color match but it is hard to get a perfect finish on scratches. You can get solid results from using a small object like a pen cap and build it up using very thin coats. The brush that comes with the bottle of paint is usually too large and uncontrollable. Some people also use small foam brushes (used in model painting).
I am 15 years old (my birthday is tommarrow, the 15th) and i own a 2000 silver mustang. i decided after viewing this video to take my wing off as well. So after doing so i noticed that there were the 4 holes holding the wing in, and there were also two holes in between those that were filled with nothing. 5/6 were 3/8 and 1 of them was a 1/2.... it looked very unproffesional on behaff of the dealer.... Long story short it took ALL DAY to get this done do to the fact that we had trouble with hols
I was thinking about having my lid repainted after I take the spoiler off but I'm afraid it won't match the rest since it's metallic paint and all so I'm gona do this, glad I found the video, can't wait to do it
where specifically in the holes did u add the adhesive? did u just squeeze some all around inside the holes or around the the surface above the holes?
I haven't done it on a newer model but the plugs should work on any car that has bolt holes...spoiler removal will be a little different probably but same general idea.
Thats the way i went too brother and people still think i just had someone get me or that im rich. but iv saved and saved and searched and searched and finally got a beautiful 'stang.
The spoiler that was on there before is a pretty neutral one with 0 drag or purpose other than looking cool. No difference that I can tell with it off.
I did have a 3000GT with the active aerodynamics (spoiler raised to 15 degrees @ 55 mph). When it switched on you could definitely feel a difference in the handling.
Good to know. A lot of spoilers are just body pieces that don't do any good. Some self installed ones create back end lift. The 2005 S4 has a tiny lip spoiler that is supposed to be part of the S package. IDK if it does a thing but make me a 1/2" more special than an A4.
YES! I've been trying to figure out a temporary and cheap way to take the spoiler off my 04 GT convertible! You, sir, are awesome. VERY helpful vid!
