Brilliant video and concept. The sad part is that if these fellas were starting out today, they would totally be trashed by the Fox News folks. What Have We Become? Tisk, tisk.
Then I feel sorry for you guys.what they where trying to do is to bring unity.and I think they did I have slot of respect for them and what they're doing know.rember they could be making alot more money, but they have gave that up for jesus Christ.and I think that so cool
i can't imagine anything gayer..... i think actual gay sex is less gay than this.... and i don't mean "gay" in the "lame" sense..... i mean GAY. i think they're closer to converting me to GAY than to christianity.... <----redundant ;)
@explosivejohnny This music was meant to target a younger audience whose parents didn't want them listening to the rap/ hip hop of the 90s. It's not meant for people with an acute eye for what's 'gay.' The sweaty guy with his shirt off who looks like he can destroy Conan? It's to convey a clear image to the young viewers that he can in fact 'tear down a wall.' Understand the context of things.
@cammalott very well said, but if anything, that makes it MORE gay..... conan was gay... or should i say "homoerotic".... and "destroying conan" is FLAMING... there's NOTHING wrong with gayness. i LOVE that it happens, because it pisses off idiots.... but to be gay and not realize it, and at the same time have a propensity to hate gays.... that's gayer than actually being gay.... that's the kind of gay that gets into conflict with itself and goes from harmless to pedophile with wife and kids.
@explosivejohnny somewhere deep inside you I believe there is a part of you that actually thinks you are intelligent. That is sad. Use more "...... "next time you post. It makes you look even more legit.
This one time, I read a gay novel...and until I just read what you typed, it was the gayest thing I had ever read.
@Driftwood145 agreed! This music still has plenty of life left in it. I wish we had music like this today... A new genre will show up sooner or later. :D
They were the coolest Christian rock band back in the day. Not that I was aroung in that 'day', but I can still adore them! And now we've got Toby on his own, and I LOVE him! Thank God for our Jesus freaks givin' us cool music to praise to.
You guys are a little late to be activists. Segregation was ended in the 60's. Yeah, look at me everyone, I'm going to sing a song about tearing down the Berlin Wall, even though it already happened! I'm so cool!
@LambadLambadLambda So... racism completely disappeared the day that segregation was officially ended, right? I know we are all entitled to our own opinions, and I know that everything from the early 90s automatically looks corny... but this truth is never outdated. Ask yourself next time you want to comment whether your words are going to build someone up (Ephesians 4:29) or tear them down. Power of life and death in the tongue! God bless you.
@Soul7Patrol actually that was God's plan why do you think tobyMac is the most inspiring recording artist? and Michael Tait joined the Newsboys and they are awsome with him and Kevin Max is doing a very good job on his poems and music, they are fine and they are trying to get back together for a reunion this year, so they are good
Man, it's like Kevin and Micheal were back up singers. To this day, Toby hasn't let go of his need to rap. Even in Jesus freak he was the one rapping every thing.
All three doing what they do SO WELL. It is wondeful to see they all followed through with the obvious call on thier lives..... Kevin sings awesomly then as now, Toby showing his rapping best, Michael's smooth silky voice, even then they desplaying talent which defines them now as solo artists. Good song too.
I remember this vid when i was a kid. all we had was the end of the clip but we played it so many times! BTW Kevin's voice is GOLD,, so smooth, these guys really should've made it out there..

DC Talk is f*cking RETARDED. This video (along with other "classics" such as Nu Thang and I love rap music) makes Mc Hammer/Vanilla Ice look like original geniuses. This brings back memories for me too, but more in the hilarious "I used to think this was cool??" kind of way. My favorite part of this video is either the Flavor Flav rip off (YEaaaah Boyyyyyy) or maybe the super gay looking body builders with no shirts on. I guess Jesus loves hot dudes, and he's trying to tear down some walls...
This has definitely dated very badly, but it was awesome for its time. The vocals (aside from the rapping, maybe) and guitar are still great. They should do a more modern take on this, keeping the best bits. Still, brings back memories. :D
Sorry guys, kitechick100 is right. Their name refers to the area they all hailed from (the DC area)--specifically Toby McKeehan. He started writing rhymes as Caucatalk, I believe, then switched to D.C. Talk and the One Way Crew, later shortening it to D.C. Talk. Of course, stupid Christian record label makes them have to come up with a Christian reasoning for the D.C. (gotta keep everything Christian esp. since it's rap omg!). Thus came the "decent christian" meaning stamped in the lyrics.
DC Talk has to do with where the 3 guys met. They met in college (in DC) where they kinda just started chatting one day (TALK). They found out that they all had a passion for music, and eventually also realized that they also had their Christian faith in common as well! -That's what I learned 'bout 'em.
Its funny how the early years of Dc Talk Toby would sing the most words in each song, but in the later years it was mostly Kevin and Michael. Do you guys think so or is it just me?
I love DC Talk. It's really interesting to watch how their music changed with the times. This video was definitely filmed during the MC Hammer craze in the early 90s. I'm glad that they always focused on God in their lyrics. They're a crossover band that didn't forget to take THE CROSS over.

If a Christian is using the internet, or watching YouTube, they are doing something worldly. Don't care for the song too much, but God is glorified through all kinds of music, including this.

What a rip off of Bobby Brown moves and every other cheesy pop group of the 90's. This is cheap! I used to be so into this crap some people call music. So glad i broke away from the confines of religion and found real music.
I remember playing this tape in my parent's basement as a kid and making up videos for it in my head. This one outdoes all of my ideas.Thank you D.C. Talk for your awesome lyrics and smokin' beats
Actually RUN-DmC, Kwame, Special Ed and many others rapped in this style and are considered legends. This came out about the time both this rap style was number 1 and 90s boom bap was beginning to surface so it would be consistent with what was being played at the time. But this would be considered by popular opinion rap and not hip hop.
I refuse to let people hate on dc talk's contribution to rap music. It opened doors when we used to get put out of churches for rapping or dancing back then. They revolutionized Christian music in multiple genres with their creativity and musical evolution.
DC-Talk use to call themselves, Vanilla, Chocolate and Swirl as their nicknames.
Toby as 'Swirl'.
Yeah, "Reformedraider1" You say DC-Talk sucks?
But you gotta credit them, dude. DC-Talk were the only, only GODLY Rap Trio singers on the Christian music charts back in the early 1990's. And that took guts :-)
I give them credit because they didnt sell out but as far as Hip Hop/Rap music is wasnt really good but Their Jesus Freak album and the others after that was awesome. I still listen to the Jesus Freak album.
Ahhh. Yeah, Just out of a joking way....Toby was called ''Swirl" because simply, if you mixed Chocolate with Vanilla together, you'ld get "Swirl" Flavored Ice-Cream so to speak. That's why he called himself Swirl. You get it?

I don't believe there is such thing as christian rap. Or are there christian lies? NO!!! Rap IS part of the world and we as Christians should not be doing the same thing the world does.
I know what you are saying, I also enjoy listening to this type of music. I sometimes wonder if it is wrong because it is the style of the world. And although we may not like it it is what the scripture says. And besides you can fell the presence of a "spirit" and it might not be from GOD. You should test all spirits. I saw an interview where a secular rocker said that when he writes music he gets inspiration from spirits and he says that the good and bad spirits fell the same. This is just my p
Don't take me wrong I also enjoy listening to this kind of music. I sometimes wonder if it is wrong because like the scripture says we shouldn't "do" what the world does. I am not judging anyone as I myself listen to it also. But you have to remember that the scripture asks us to test every spirit as not all spirits are good. I saw an interview of a secular rocker and he said he gets inspiration from the spirits and that he feels there is no difference between the good and bad spirits.
SRY double posted. And besides you might enjoy the music because it reminds you of what you listened when you weren't saved. But like I said it is my opinion. May God bless everyone and teach us what is right and wrong.

What a rip off of Bobby Brown moves and every other cheesy pop group of the 90's. This is cheap! I used to be so into this crap some people call music. So glad i broke away from the confines of religion and found real music.

But their message still rang true.

Man, I remember back in the day, this was about as intense as you could get.

Mail345 3 years ago 6
I give them credit because they didnt sell out but as far as Hip Hop/Rap music is wasnt really good but Their Jesus Freak album and the others after that was awesome. I still listen to the Jesus Freak album.
reformedraider1 3 years ago 2
any idea why Toby was "Swirl"?
rlpDean 2 years ago
Hey guy, Wussup RipDean?

I'm not sure if you are a Rookie-Christian or a long time Veteran-Christian...but for me, I've been Saved for 39 out of 48 years : )
And in those great years, I've learned that ---> Jesus CAN greatly be *Glorified* through ALL TYPES of MUSIC.
Not just normal Worshipped-Church songs.
I feel the presents of the Holy Spirit through GODLY Rap, Rock and even Hard Rock Songs,
Hope this helps, my bro / sis in Christ : - )

May God bless everyone and teach us what is right and wrong.
lolis883 2 years ago
First of all the first type of music was christian and to be honestly correct the world is immitating us

That stinks, man!
Why did DC-Talk have to changed from 'Christian Rap to Christian Alternative' music?
I really loved all their Rap music when they first started singing about 1990.
They were on the top charts on my list of music back then, I tell ya.
