  • terra firma terra nova tearing down the walls of segregation like my father did in WWII he's dead now GOD bless you father i love you father

  • Man this came out before I graduated highschool....why wasn't I listening to this back then? Toby Mac and Michael Stipe with their young selves. It is still awesome, even now. Love this!!!!!

  • @WendiHay819 His name is Michael Tait ;)

  • @WendiHay819 It came out before I graduated high school too, about 11 years prior lol.

  • @WendiHay819 Michael Stipe is R.E.M., Michael Tait is the black guy that used to be in DC Talk.

  • this awesome song even for today

  • Toby look so young!!! Hard to believe he's 46 now...

  • when i was a kid i thought this was a killer guitar solo...

  • Brilliant video and concept. The sad part is that if these fellas were starting out today, they would totally be trashed by the Fox News folks. What Have We Become? Tisk, tisk.

  • @sallysparrowblinks Why would they be trashed by Fox News?

  • Then I feel sorry for you guys.what they where trying to do is to bring unity.and I think they did I have slot of respect for them and what they're doing know.rember they could be making alot more money, but they have gave that up for jesus Christ.and I think that so cool

  • i can't imagine anything gayer..... i think actual gay sex is less gay than this.... and i don't mean "gay" in the "lame" sense..... i mean GAY. i think they're closer to converting me to GAY than to christianity.... <----redundant ;)

  • @explosivejohnny This music was meant to target a younger audience whose parents didn't want them listening to the rap/ hip hop of the 90s. It's not meant for people with an acute eye for what's 'gay.' The sweaty guy with his shirt off who looks like he can destroy Conan? It's to convey a clear image to the young viewers that he can in fact 'tear down a wall.' Understand the context of things.

  • @cammalott very well said, but if anything, that makes it MORE gay..... conan was gay... or should i say "homoerotic".... and "destroying conan" is FLAMING... there's NOTHING wrong with gayness. i LOVE that it happens, because it pisses off idiots.... but to be gay and not realize it, and at the same time have a propensity to hate gays.... that's gayer than actually being gay.... that's the kind of gay that gets into conflict with itself and goes from harmless to pedophile with wife and kids.

  • @explosivejohnny somewhere deep inside you I believe there is a part of you that actually thinks you are intelligent. That is sad. Use more "...... "next time you post. It makes you look even more legit.

This one time, I read a gay novel...and until I just read what you typed, it was the gayest thing I had ever read.

  • Hard.

  • WOW!!!!!...i never thought id say this...but these guys make VANILLA ICE seem like a musical genius

  • And how many people share your opinion? Probably the 100 individuals that think Vanilla Ice is better than Eminem. Sad, isn't it?

  • i can't believe that style was awesome... ever

  • As a young, Christian girl, Mike's shirt being unbuttoned was intense for me.

  • @KimberlyAlana not the ripped shirtless guys swinging the sledge hammers?

  • @pirateburke86 I didn't know who they were. They didn't matter. With Mike, I had a chance.

  • -.^?

all of these comments are so positive!

    ...thats so odd.

  • have dc talk made a bad song hmmmmmmmm let me check nope all amazing

  • this track is all kinds of epic- and that's a word i take seriously!! ;)

  • "Black sheep, white sheep or swirl..." Ha ha ha ha!!!

  • guitar @2:21-2:36 is AWESOME, even today on March 22, 2011.

  • @Driftwood145 agreed! This music still has plenty of life left in it. I wish we had music like this today... A new genre will show up sooner or later. :D

  • They were the coolest Christian rock band back in the day. Not that I was aroung in that 'day', but I can still adore them! And now we've got Toby on his own, and I LOVE him! Thank God for our Jesus freaks givin' us cool music to praise to.

  • You guys are a little late to be activists. Segregation was ended in the 60's. Yeah, look at me everyone, I'm going to sing a song about tearing down the Berlin Wall, even though it already happened! I'm so cool!

  • @LambadLambadLambda people still do it........

  • @LambadLambadLambda So... racism completely disappeared the day that segregation was officially ended, right? I know we are all entitled to our own opinions, and I know that everything from the early 90s automatically looks corny... but this truth is never outdated. Ask yourself next time you want to comment whether your words are going to build someone up (Ephesians 4:29) or tear them down. Power of life and death in the tongue! God bless you.

  • @jsdevinc thats so true ;) but i totally agree

  • Why did you guys quit that wassnt GOD plan....since then nothing have worked out for you's.

  • @Soul7Patrol actually that was God's plan why do you think tobyMac is the most inspiring recording artist? and Michael Tait joined the Newsboys and they are awsome with him and Kevin Max is doing a very good job on his poems and music, they are fine and they are trying to get back together for a reunion this year, so they are good

  • i love how u used to be able to erase your schoolwork with mike's hair... then he went car wash....

  • Man, it's like Kevin and Micheal were back up singers. To this day, Toby hasn't let go of his need to rap. Even in Jesus freak he was the one rapping every thing.

  • @Msumner316 Michael & Kevin were labled as backround singers

  • where did u find this???

  • @JesusFreak77753

    "FIND THIS?"

This is REAL dc talk.... not the selloutica stuff since and after jesus freak.

  • @ooPreacherManoo i know that, i was trying to find out what website he got this from so i don't have to use youtube to look it up

  • WAAAALLLSSS

  • All three doing what they do SO WELL. It is wondeful to see they all followed through with the obvious call on thier lives..... Kevin sings awesomly then as now, Toby showing his rapping best, Michael's smooth silky voice, even then they desplaying talent which defines them now as solo artists. Good song too.

  • FUCK THA PO-LICE!

  • so was readin toby's new book and he mentioned this song...i feel bad that i had never heard it...so glad i looked it up..awesome.

  • I love a good old school Dc talk song and memorizing the raps.

  • 5 people are racist

  • Good ole' DCT in effect....man times were different

  • I remember this vid when i was a kid. all we had was the end of the clip but we played it so many times! BTW Kevin's voice is GOLD,, so smooth, these guys really should've made it out there..

  • @007NKS1 i think they did more than made it...lol

  • @BennyBisMe I know! they're absolute legends. i just mean if they made it on secular radio, not just billboard n that. they deserve to be bigger than freakin britney spears and i dno, limp bizkit. haha

  • Toby may look much different now, but he stands for the same things. He is a very christian man. Great example!

  • LOVE the mickey mouse denim jacket! LOL. Great song though, takes me back...

  • Comment removed

  • brings back so many memories! :3

  • This has definitely dated very badly, but it was awesome for its time. The vocals (aside from the rapping, maybe) and guitar are still great. They should do a more modern take on this, keeping the best bits. Still, brings back memories. :D

  • I think to sum up how I feel about the message of this song is in one word. AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • HOLY CRAP THIS IS THE LAMEST THING EVER

  • @TheWhiteTomatoes The video's pretty stupid, but the song's awesome!

  • @fludplane33 Ha ha, no, its defiantly just as lame.

  • @TheWhiteTomatoes

    Back under your bridge, troll!

  • @Restayvien That was definitely the best response to a comment troll i've ever heard. lol

  • overalls overcoats and pirates jerseys hahahaha

  • dc talk are awesome, they inspire me alot in my music n my rappin', lol, I didnt know toby was such a good dancer, lol,

  • they are doin the runnin man, this is crackin me up, this was so long ago!

  • i think DC in their name had several meanings.

  • .... I really miss DC talk :(

  • omg toby looks so diferent and much older now....... and its cool how they put some of martin king jrs sayings in the begining

  • Sorry guys, kitechick100 is right. Their name refers to the area they all hailed from (the DC area)--specifically Toby McKeehan. He started writing rhymes as Caucatalk, I believe, then switched to D.C. Talk and the One Way Crew, later shortening it to D.C. Talk. Of course, stupid Christian record label makes them have to come up with a Christian reasoning for the D.C. (gotta keep everything Christian esp. since it's rap omg!). Thus came the "decent christian" meaning stamped in the lyrics.

  • uauuuu!!! em 89 eu tinha apenas dois aninhos... mas eu gosto msm assim!!!

  • if there is one question you could ask toby or the other members what would you ask them?

  • Yeah Boy ! ..DC TALK ..comin' strong

  • The best of rap music! They are great!

  • I'm pretty sure the riff of this is nearly note-for-note taken from Queen's "Stone Cold Crazy", it's just slowed down a lot? Anyone else with me?

  • never noticed it til now.. it seems that way. Oh well.

  • DC Talk has to do with where the 3 guys met. They met in college (in DC) where they kinda just started chatting one day (TALK). They found out that they all had a passion for music, and eventually also realized that they also had their Christian faith in common as well! -That's what I learned 'bout 'em.

  • Actually they met at Liberty University in Virginia (a Christian college). DC Talk stands for "decent Christian talk"...

  • Yeah that's what I knew.

  • Its funny how the early years of Dc Talk Toby would sing the most words in each song, but in the later years it was mostly Kevin and Michael. Do you guys think so or is it just me?

  • I love DC Talk. It's really interesting to watch how their music changed with the times. This video was definitely filmed during the MC Hammer craze in the early 90s. I'm glad that they always focused on God in their lyrics. They're a crossover band that didn't forget to take THE CROSS over.

  • somebody knows what mean DC TALK ?

  • Dc Talk means Decent Christian Talk.

  • Comment removed

  • @guitargeekette DC Talk has to do with where the 3 guys met. The were in college (in DC) and started chatting one day (TALK). They didn't know each other, but found out they all had music in common, then while continuing to talk, they also realized they had their Christian faith in common, too. -This is what I learned.

  • @kitechick100 Actually, They have a song detailing where their name comes from. Search for "When DC Talks."

It's also on Wikipedia stating this with cited references. So you are wrong.

  • @kitechick100 Actually DCTalk was already something that Toby was going by. At first they were dcTalk and the One Way Crew. You can even see it on the first album they did. On the wall in the background of the cover it says "One Way Crew"... They just shortened it to plain old dctalk. Kevin tweeted not too long ago bout him and toby meeting up "Sweet talk- good talk, not quite decent talk, but real talk."

  • @guitargeekette Is it that or Diverse City Talk?

  • @megagoldeagle08 It's Decent Christian Talk. you can look it up. Diverse City was a tobyMac solo thing.

  • Classic DC Talk! I loved this group! I wish they wouldn't have split up. I'd love to see a reunion but since Toby Mac is doing so well as a solo artist and Tait is the new frontman for Newsboys, I don't think it's gonna happen. I once saw Tait in concert and when he did "Jesus Freak", I went crazy!!!! He didn't do any of the rapping parts but I was. A guy standing next to me was amazed that I knew all the words.

  • I got tobyMac's newest live cd/dvd and he included "in the light" and "jesus freak" on his set list, it was awesome! Yeah, it wasnt the same w/o the other guys but still good.

  • Dc talk ! Those were the days

  • i wish i was toby mac

  • ya no hay cristianos maduros. Dios se glorificara en toda clase de musica.

  • Too bad they had to break up. But Toby is great solo, I love that Michael is the new lead singer of Newsboys and will have not heard much from Kevin.

  • last i heard from kevin, he was singin the hook to a song by christian rapper Playdough

  • Yeah, about the most I hear about Kevin he's upating something on his myspace...(which I guess, not often, because I hardly check mine)

  • If a Christian is using the internet, or watching YouTube, they are doing something worldly. Don't care for the song too much, but God is glorified through all kinds of music, including this.

  • it says to be apart from the world, but everything that is made needs to be used to glorify God. we can't live in a cave

  • That's pretty much what I was trying to say.

I agree we should be apart from the world.

I agree that everything that is made needs to be used to glorify God.

I also believe this song DOES glorify God. I was responding to lolis883 who said that because DC Talk "sounded" worldly, then they couldn't (or shouldn't) be called Christian. I was pointing out that using the internet is ALSO a worldly thing, but it can be used to glorify God. (My actual opinion of the music shouldn't matter).

  • ok, i get ya

  • Awesome song

  • almost makes christianity worth buying into

  • this is when christian music was cool now its just soooo ......its like they conformed to gospel or its all bubbly and popish or countru (eww no offence) definite classic

  • Agreed man.

  • I guess you dont listen to christian metal.....Theres a lot of them out there

  • I don't think music like this should be called "christian" because it is imitating the world. And in Romans 12:2, it says "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

  • good song it's kinder catchy

  • i grew up with these guys i owned Nu thang cd

    love the guitar solo

  • Lol its cool to see how toby grew up. He looks so young here! Btw i love this song!

  • @avarela96 Toby as in TobyMac? I knew the one doing the rapper's style sounded familiar!

  • @bombshellblonde544 haha yeah tobyMac (:

  • WOW they were so young all their hair looks wierd

  • toby is so young haha

  • Ha, such a classic. I love Michael's hair =)

  • @mattjb84 I couldn't agree more! This song is one of their best ever! And I know that';s saying somethin.

  • Awesome!

  • man, christian music was so goofy back then.

  • Good video

  • WOW!! They're SOO YOUNG here!! GOTTA love it!! lol, DC Talk is awesome!

  • Woooooooooow.......

  • OH MY GOODNESS!! they were so young lol I almost grew up with them as i was 8 when my mom introduce their Music to me wow! so 80s lol

  • Actually this is 1990, or 1991 not 1989

  • This song is from 1990 :-)

  • Tait y Mac esta CASI iguales, el que si cambia ucho es Kevin... FAN #1 En Mexico!!!!

  • I always used to love this song yet never knew they had made a video! Wow. :)

  • I remember playing this tape in my parent's basement as a kid and making up videos for it in my head. This one outdoes all of my ideas.Thank you D.C. Talk for your awesome lyrics and smokin' beats

  • They was the junk back then.........T-mac!!!!!!!

  • But their message still rang true.

  • Actually RUN-DmC, Kwame, Special Ed and many others rapped in this style and are considered legends. This came out about the time both this rap style was number 1 and 90s boom bap was beginning to surface so it would be consistent with what was being played at the time. But this would be considered by popular opinion rap and not hip hop.

  • I refuse to let people hate on dc talk's contribution to rap music. It opened doors when we used to get put out of churches for rapping or dancing back then. They revolutionized Christian music in multiple genres with their creativity and musical evolution.

  • Man, I remember back in the day, this was about as intense as you could get.

  • DC-Talk use to call themselves, Vanilla, Chocolate and Swirl as their nicknames.

    Toby as 'Swirl'.

Yeah, "Reformedraider1" You say DC-Talk sucks?

But you gotta credit them, dude. DC-Talk were the only, only GODLY Rap Trio singers on the Christian music charts back in the early 1990's. And that took guts :-)

  • I give them credit because they didnt sell out but as far as Hip Hop/Rap music is wasnt really good but Their Jesus Freak album and the others after that was awesome. I still listen to the Jesus Freak album.

  • any idea why Toby was "Swirl"?

  • Hey guy, Wussup RipDean?

Ahhh. Yeah, Just out of a joking way....Toby was called ''Swirl" because simply, if you mixed Chocolate with Vanilla together, you'ld get "Swirl" Flavored Ice-Cream so to speak. That's why he called himself Swirl. You get it?

  • Comment removed

  • ya, thx Mail345.

  • I forgot, something about the rap thing.... crap, if I could only remember the reason, much less if he ever said why.

  • I'm not sure if you are a Rookie-Christian or a long time Veteran-Christian...but for me, I've been Saved for 39 out of 48 years : )

And in those great years, I've learned that ---> Jesus CAN greatly be *Glorified* through ALL TYPES of MUSIC.

    Not just normal Worshipped-Church songs.

I feel the presents of the Holy Spirit through GODLY Rap, Rock and even Hard Rock Songs,

Hope this helps, my bro / sis in Christ : - )

  • I know what you are saying, I also enjoy listening to this type of music. I sometimes wonder if it is wrong because it is the style of the world. And although we may not like it it is what the scripture says. And besides you can fell the presence of a "spirit" and it might not be from GOD. You should test all spirits. I saw an interview where a secular rocker said that when he writes music he gets inspiration from spirits and he says that the good and bad spirits fell the same. This is just my p

  • Don't take me wrong I also enjoy listening to this kind of music. I sometimes wonder if it is wrong because like the scripture says we shouldn't "do" what the world does. I am not judging anyone as I myself listen to it also. But you have to remember that the scripture asks us to test every spirit as not all spirits are good. I saw an interview of a secular rocker and he said he gets inspiration from the spirits and that he feels there is no difference between the good and bad spirits.

  • SRY double posted. And besides you might enjoy the music because it reminds you of what you listened when you weren't saved. But like I said it is my opinion. May God bless everyone and teach us what is right and wrong.

  • First of all the first type of music was christian and to be honestly correct the world is immitating us

  • awesome awesome awesome, this was my favorite song as a kid!

  • That stinks, man!

Why did DC-Talk have to changed from 'Christian Rap to Christian Alternative' music?

I really loved all their Rap music when they first started singing about 1990.

They were on the top charts on my list of music back then, I tell ya.

  • Comment removed

  • me too. I kinda stopped listening to them like i used to after free at last. thats when the change began.

  • ha!! i love this !! they were so weird !!!

    i like 'em better now.

  • i wish they would have steyed together

  • Not if they kept this style. haha

  • totally. . . Did you se what Kevin was wearing? Or Tait? Or Toby for that matter. lol it's rich.

  • It was 1989.

  • I'm lovin this.

  • YEEEEAH!

  • DC TALK FTW

  • Me2 they rock! Can I hear reunion?

  • The reunion should come complete with an all new DC Talk album with their finest material ever.

  • I love DC Talk so much!
