  • I think HK government should start new compulsory plans to reeducate all owners/sellers in HK how to treat customers nicely!

  • omg it look so strange

  • seems ok to me. pretty nice actually...depending on the price.

  • i went here in 08'.

First night I stayed in a room with a bunch of illegals from the mainland I think

  • I booked online for here on hostelworld and stayed for 3 nights...unlike everywhere else I never got an e-mail back asking for me to rate the place....on my account it was down as cancelled obviously so I couldn't give it a bad rating

  • They turn off the hot water like at 10 am or so to the entire building, because "that's when people usually take showers around here".

  • As I know they turned on hot water from 7am to 12pm. So by your time there must be hot water lol

  • I sooooo disagree with the title of this video. Clearly you don't quite understand the situation of Hong Kong Hostel. Hostels are built from properties located in old building, which is not appealing I agree. But it provides a very good alternative to budget backpackers as everyone knows hong kong hotels are super expensive. I would recommend you to do more research on Hong Kong accommodation and have a better expectation.

  • You might be right that previous commenter doesn't understand the HK situation, but this IS in fact a bad hostel compared to others in Mirador. I have stayed there and found the owners tricky and a bit unpleasant and the conditions way too cramped and nasty.

  • Mate the Hong Kong Hostels rock! these funny locations let you feel the heart and soul of Hong Kong. I miss these places.

  • If this is the worst there is, I think I can take it all.

  • @primummovens OMG, i have stayed at this place!!! It is really not that bad. You get what you pay for people !

Security-staff is there around the clock. They control every floor many times a day. They control the lifts on the ground floor. After 10:00 PM all side entries are closed except the main entry at Nathan Road. It is controlled by the security and every person who enters the building has to show passport and name and entering time will be recorded.

Maybe the situation has changed since the article was broadcasted.

What are visitors ecpecting for that low fare of the rooms?

I stayed in Mirador Mansion September/October 2008 for 8 nights in Man Hing Lung Hotel on the 14th floor. Very clean and very kind and helpfull staff.

I can´t agree to the articel in THE STANDARD. I entered and left the building at different day- and nighttime. There were no people sleeping in corridors, I recognised no prostitutes (except outside on Nathan Road steps away from the building) and there were no vermin.

  • Gotta voice my disagreement with your commentary. I stayed 3 weeks ago and had a great time. The staff was very helpful, and even trusted me for the key deposit when I had to leave early for a flight.

The tiny room was clean and had an AC - all I needed. If you're looking for creature comforts, book a friggin' 3-star hotel, not a low-budget hostel on Nathan Road!

The Mirador is a fascinating place, but it's pretty much a giant slum dwelling. Holding it to standards of Western luxury is silly.

  • No, I liked the place as it was as described here on YouTube. The staff was trustworthy for me, too, for having to make an early morning flight. If I do stay there again, I will have a travel companion and a room with a window.

  • I stayed there (5th flr room) back in April 2008. My first choice was a single (too small), so they offered a double. The price was slighter higher, but I didn't care. My room had no telephone, so I had to use their phone at the desk. Being my first experience in Hong Kong, I would probably stayt there again. Perhaps the best asset was the 24-hour internet cafe on the 10th floor. The attendant was extremely helpful.

  • I've been asked to remind everyone that this hostel operates under the following names:

    USA Hotel

    New Garden Hostel

    Travellers Friendship House

    Kowloon New Hostel

    Mirador Hostel

    THEY'RE ALL THE SAME PLACE

  • Man, what's wrong with you?

It's a hostel, not a *****-hotel, it's cheap, and the staff is very nice! what do you expect?

    Mirador Mansion rules!

  • I stayed there.

The dorm entrance is where the old lady is sitting. They jam open the front door and balcony door with the AC always turned off in 35C heat. The noise from the street below is pretty loud.

Shower is a toilet with a hose.

Also, on the balcony there's like six washing machines but no dryer, so staff are always walking thru the dorm at all hours to pick up laundry and hang it up in the corridor (which u can also see in the video)

    A real dump...
