I dont know if i found a glitch in the game or stumbled apon a mean ass cheat code. 999 continues! i have the pic of it at 551 credits left since that time and STILL i cant figure out WTF i did....yes i was playin around with the old konami code at the loading screen but even at game faqs that i had to look and see today dont have it listed...so im wondering is it a glitch? because the credits is still in the 500's but going down each time all my men are gone...i havent seen game over in eons

This game is the same as what jizzblue is to guilty gear, a downgraded, less violent, n00b friendly, oh exploitable weaboo version of the original kickass concept, i mean, even the ost is downgraded. Metal slug had blood and little guts at least lmao, too bad this is another series that kinda went to shit after original snk disbanded. The best being number three. This also looks like an amateur doujin game and not a console game. I mean those models are just too mediocre.
It's baffling that the makers of Contra 4 haven't had another opportunity as that game was the first great Contra entry since Alien Wars on the SNES, though Hard Corps on Genesis was decent (just not great). This seems awfully slow, brightly colored, easy and boring. Though, in fairness I haven't played it and should wait until judging too much. Also I think Konami is trying to craft a Contra-inspired series under the name Hard Corps and as such this isn't expected to be Contra 5 per-se.
All i have to say is that if a contra game doesnt have The most Disgusting Bosses known to man,Fast Gameplay,Hard core Music or Brutal Boss Deaths,than u know its SHIT!!!!! and this is one of them...
Meh. I'm disappointed that it went to a cel-shaded anime style instead of the more realistic style used in the 'sequel'. I liked it looking like some mature graphic novel come to life, not like a PG-Gundam anime. But as long as they include Browny the Robot I can't be too sad.

I thought their games would be just as good like they were during the 16-bit era but they were just crappy except Metal Gear Solid , Castlevania , and Gradius Gaiden those were great.On Playstation 2 they won me over a little bit with MGS 2 & 3 , Zone of the Enders 1 & 2 and to a lesser extent Rumble Roses because it was an All-Girl Wrestling game with me being into wrestling and of course sex sells no matter how bad it was.

This game looks great, even though I'm not a big fan of the 3D backgrounds. Then again, it kind of reminds me of ye olde PSX games in a good way, so I might get used to it.
@nerothos Just because its high res sprites doesn't mean it animates well, which is usually the problem, so it may be shitty graphics in terms of animation and I've seen much better looking neo-geo games in terms of animation and overall art design.
@ruekurei88 Honestly, I for one am just happy we're getting sprite artwork at all nowadays. It's a lost art within mainstream gaming, which is a huge shame in my opinion. Regardless, considering the very high resolution of the sprites, it's obviously a lot tougher to animate fluidly.
@nerothos Yea true, thats why I'm glad the DS is around, where sprite based games could thrive on that, with the 3DS that might change though....
And Ive seen the new King of Fighters game so its possible for high resolution sprites to animate very fluidly, though it may be hard. After seeing games over the years with such gorgeous animation and art(Street Fighter 3, Mark of the Wolves, Metal Slug, KIng of Fighters 12 plus a lot more) I cant accept any less.

@nerothos Yea there is actually, not in the form as they were back in the Super nes era(i.e. a major title)but more in the form of Virtual Console, Live, or PSN games. There is a Contra Rebirth which looks great, but pretty soon this style will be gone soon as there are no consoles(with the 3DS now) that cant support PS2 graphics quality games now.
1:Contra: Hard Corps for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis was completly orginal game. No Bill or Lance explained.
2: Japanese relase of the game, Contra: The Hard Corps had anime-like artstyle. Developer Arc Systems consider this as the sequel to The Hard Corps: Anime-like artstyle, lifebar: BOTH are from Japanese version of Contra: Hard Corps.

Great, especially the worm thing jumping in and out of the ground from the snowboard part of Shattered Soldier. But nothing blew me away since Shattered Soldier and 4.
@Iwannaplayssbb It's somehow related to Contra Hard Corps back on the genesis. There was a girl playable character in it and the Japanese version sort of had a life bar ( 3 hits ).
The girl is one of the hard corps characters on the genesis. Her weapons are the best on 2P, but on 1P I can kick the game's as pretty easily by myself.
@mutronics1 Forget about my previous comment, i've just checked out some other gameplay vids and there's a sprint feature and apparently you can play the game with one hit kills.
Those complaining about hitpoints should know that ORIGINAL contra hard corps (japanese version and maybe europe dunno) had hitpoint bar. It did make game easy but guess what, that's why there was ability to select 1-3 lifes. I'd like to complain more about too colorful looks (Contra looks better in darker grittier color themes) and somewhat toy looking mechanical enemies and objects (Like that helicopter). Nevertheless this game looks fun run and gun action title.
Im glad its coming, but it doesnt feel like contra for some reason...

I know it's a prequel, but I would've preferred a game with Bill & Lance. Plus, Anime for a game that was huge mostly in the U.S.?
I'm hoping these are the only changes made to this series...

@AManofWit Naruto rejects? Have you seen Daisuke Ishiwatari's work? It's amazing. Trust me. He composes very nice metal from Guilty Gear and his art is unbelievable. It kind of has a rock 'n' roll and metal feel to it. His artwork puts Blazblue art in shame.

boo.. looks super slow compared to contra hard corps. ikaruga was a faith-full remake this is trash. scale the intensity up by 2 fold double the sprites increase the firepower and mabey you dont have to play catch up with a 15 plus year old game that is still better than this. i hope this is some kinda iphone or something even then id rather play contra hard corps.. in contra i allways get the sense i running this looks like a stroll through the park in comparsion. please take contra name off.

@chaseman94 YES! It was gonna be PS3 exclusive. That one game was reason enough for me to buy one at ORIGINAL price! When I learned they cancelled it I was almost in tears. Then, they make Otomedius!? What rational reason did Konami have for this. And you make TWO!? That's the worst part! Does that make sense? Did they forget about the Bacterion's little foreshadowing speech? And now look at Contra... Too much Naruto tainted Konami's manliest game.

@AManofWit IMO Konami started slipping when Playstation 1 came around. I thought their games would be just as good like they were during the 16-bit era but they were just crappy except Metal Gear Solid , Castlevania , and Gradius Gaiden those were great.On Playstation 2 they won me over a little bit with MGS 2 & 3 , Zone of the Enders 1 & 2 and to a lesser extent Rumble Roses because it was an All-Girl Wrestling game with me being into wrestling and of course sex sells no matter how bad it was.

@AManofWit actually this is made by Arc system works, the guys who made guilty gear and blazblue, not konami... that's why it's not branded as a contra game.... konami made contra 4 and rebirth though.... but put them on the wii and ds (which is odd since this game targets those audiances more than rebirth does while rebirth targets the ps3/360 crowd more than this.... mayhaps they should switch platforms and bring rebirth onto psn and live arcade.)

Konami is going all out with their lineup of games for next-gen systems. Otomedius, Rush N' Attack & now new Contra & Castlevania games!
Still won't forgive them for not giving us Lagrange Point, Crisis Force & the Parodius games...

This game looks great, even though I'm not a big fan of the 3D backgrounds. Then again, it kind of reminds me of ye olde PSX games in a good way, so I might get used to it.
Also; Play Contra 4 - it's a beast of a game.

@nerothos Just because its high res sprites doesn't mean it animates well, which is usually the problem, so it may be shitty graphics in terms of animation and I've seen much better looking neo-geo games in terms of animation and overall art design.

@ruekurei88 Honestly, I for one am just happy we're getting sprite artwork at all nowadays. It's a lost art within mainstream gaming, which is a huge shame in my opinion. Regardless, considering the very high resolution of the sprites, it's obviously a lot tougher to animate fluidly.

@nerothos Yea true, thats why I'm glad the DS is around, where sprite based games could thrive on that, with the 3DS that might change though....
And Ive seen the new King of Fighters game so its possible for high resolution sprites to animate very fluidly, though it may be hard. After seeing games over the years with such gorgeous animation and art(Street Fighter 3, Mark of the Wolves, Metal Slug, KIng of Fighters 12 plus a lot more) I cant accept any less.

@ruekurei88 If more games looked like Street Fighter 3, I would be a happy camper indeed. Also, I would definitely prefer a low-res Contra 4 style game (it was GORGEOUS) over this style, but I guess they don't see a market for low-res games on home consoles?

@nerothos Yea there is actually, not in the form as they were back in the Super nes era(i.e. a major title)but more in the form of Virtual Console, Live, or PSN games. There is a Contra Rebirth which looks great, but pretty soon this style will be gone soon as there are no consoles(with the 3DS now) that cant support PS2 graphics quality games now.

1:Contra: Hard Corps for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis was completly orginal game. No Bill or Lance explained.
2: Japanese relase of the game, Contra: The Hard Corps had anime-like artstyle. Developer Arc Systems consider this as the sequel to The Hard Corps: Anime-like artstyle, lifebar: BOTH are from Japanese version of Contra: Hard Corps.

The gameplay looks extremely slow when compared to Hard Corps on the Mega Drive / Genesis.
I hope it's got a nice metal/techno soundtrack. =)

Those complaining about hitpoints should know that ORIGINAL contra hard corps (japanese version and maybe europe dunno) had hitpoint bar. It did make game easy but guess what, that's why there was ability to select 1-3 lifes. I'd like to complain more about too colorful looks (Contra looks better in darker grittier color themes) and somewhat toy looking mechanical enemies and objects (Like that helicopter). Nevertheless this game looks fun run and gun action title.
