  • Excuses. The second line should read "It changes even the worst day into an almost PERFECT day!

  • This is sheer perfection. It changes even the worst day into an almost pefgect day!

    Waxefield

  • This is truly a magnificent piece.

  • Cosmic orgasm.

  • This is REAL music!

  • @ocasionalcheater5 I just acquired a DECCA two CD recording of this opera today. Fantastic! I've wanted to listen to something composed by Gluck and this opera fell into my possession, a used copy. A treasure for sure.

  • muy bueno!

  • Gorgeous. I hope to play this from an organ transcription for All Souls Day in November.

  • The violin part at the introduction is excellently crafted. You can actually "see" the spirits floating in midair. How did Gluck achieve this? Certain notes impart semi visual images in the brain of the listener. The flute solo with the elongated notes is superb. No wonder Mozart, Beethoven and Haydn all were influenced by his music. By sheer poetic beauty this is one of greatest opus ever created.

  • If you like this music, I guess that (for those who doesn't know it) you will love "La petite musique de nuit" from Mozart, Bach: Air, Vivaldi: La Notte, Pachelbel: Canon.

    Such Music is Universal :-)

  • @fonlatul You named a couple of my all-time favorites there, hehe:)

This is very relaxing music for me. I like to listen to this when i'm sitting in the garden out back with a cup of coffee, just listening and thinking quietly. Almost feels like meditation.

  • Quite beautiful, very relaxing indeed. Thank you for posting

  • One of the most beautiful pieces of classical music I have ever heard. He must have been deeply spiritual to compose such hypnotic music.

  • is this the piece of music the ballet is set to? It's absolutely beautiful

  • peace and quite, lasts forever.

  • Music as its best. Gluck gives us intense musical discoveries! Goes to the deep of our soul.

  • Did some BUTTOX grinding naked around my room to this one. Dont blame me- tis the hot weather. Really, it is ZHO HAHT. Mein GAHT zo HAHT. Forgive me? ;-(

  • @ariesscorpiorising ...snickersnort...

  • @kathberry8 ;-D

  • @ariesscorpiorising Nothing wrong with that, but did you post a video of your performance on youtube? (smile, just kidding)

  • Im playing this for me French horn Recital.. =333 But is Arreanged...

  • @SmGD1n0pwnage2 Hahaha same here! It's the easiest one out of the ones I was assigned so I chose this song.

  • Huh...just discovered Gluck today while researching the Viennese Classical period.

  • Ohh ... lovely, sublime, beautiful and many other adjectives that have flown right out of my head, because it is filled with this splended music.. *Ahhhh, sighs and listens again* :0)x

  • it's wonderful,

  • @777wallaby777 If like this, then check out the first movement of Carl Dittersdorf's Sinfonia No.4 in F major (which is listed under the title: C.D.v. Dittersdorf - Sinfonia No.4 in F major 'The rescue of Andromeda.. I. Adagio non molto). And it's definitely one to listen to in the dead of night (And his requiem is pretty damn good too!). And on a slightly different note.....ahem.....check out Mozart's Symphony No.6 if you've never heard it before, and especially the second movement. Bliss!

  • @malcolmcolemann i didn't found the first movement…, only the second, third and fourth --'

i prefer the second , but i want to listen the first^^'

  • @777wallaby777 That should read: If you like this......(which you obviosly do).

  • @malcolmcolemann ok thanks, i will try to listen this today ;)

  • Oh for... JUST LISTEN TO THE DAMN SONG. It is MUSIC. You do not fight on sacred ground, to those of you who are religous, and to me, music as a whole and everything contained within... that is sacred ground. This is sacred ground. Be silent, and listen.

  • @qwackfartz :)

  • My girl is learning to play this at flute. It sounds really impressive as shes very tallented. Thank You for posting this. Regards.

  • Her name is madame du hausset, go to guttenberg(.)org. dont go to name of author, instead go to title words and write in "madame du hausset". Its a 200 to 25 page writing. She use to be the servent of madame pompadore and then later on of Marie antonette. Its in that writing where she tells of gluck being her favorite conductor and how marie antonette went around asking people not to speak while he was playing.

  • He use to play for Marie Antonette. She use to invite him to play. Each time He played for Marie Antonette, she use to go around to each of the guests and ask them not to speak while he was playing. He was her favorite. Its written about in madame haussetts writings.

  • Also you, who have occasionally changed the sides, are so much integrated in this woven of love and harmony in endless belonging to God and His never-ending love for you

  • This musical jewel simply makes me cry. It touches some special parts of my soul and strikes them so softly and gentle that i only can thank God for sending us such talents.

  • @Isi2O12 The hell with God. I thank Gluck and no one else for this wonderful piece. And there needn't be anyone else to thank.

  • @HisokaThorongil

Keep your puerile internal insecurities to yourself, thank you.

  • @Onieracraft I know theists have a habit of projecting, and you do not fail in this regard. Leaving aside your ad hominem, though, the point, I repeat, is that one needn't thank some celestial dictator for this piece of music. Gluck alone is the only person to thank for it, however much that may bother you.

  • @HisokaThorongil i think it is really you that has the problem. if you think GOD a dictator ( they usually FORCE you to follow) and yet all GOD stands for is love and kindness to others. you must be so alone in your shell............GOD bless you.

  • @needaman66 Yes, thank you for that well thought out and argued point. I'll be sure to take it seriously... never.

  • @HisokaThorongil yes......nothing new there i guess. problem is, i aint arguing, i have actually studied the bible word for word,( and no, i wasnt brought up religious, or attend catholic school) and dont just make statements from the top of my head. but i am not trying to convince you, only stating my opinion, which i am fully entitled to of course. whether you take it seriously or not is really to your own detriment. you are also fully entitles to your opinion as well

  • Comment removed

  • @needaman66 That makes no sense, and I have no idea what point you're now trying to make. Of course, you never have made sense in your replies to me, so I suppose this is par for the course. I guess I could repeat the point I've been making again, but I fear it would just fall on deaf ears once more. Have a good time wallowing in your ignorance.

  • @HisokaThorongil ...........ummmm, what was that buzzing in my ear?

  • I love this song soooooo much!! It was really hard to find the whole minuet and dance on youtube, usually just the first part. I play flute and I did this piece as my solo my senior year We did the middle part just a little bit faster, not much. It's one of my favorite songs EVER.

  • I've touched the sublime

  • ah beautiful ! i love this piece so much! we heard it in music class and i have fallen in love with it!

  • im doin this 4 my grade 5 flute exam and its a lovely song and it helps to listen to it

  • This piece of music sounds like heaven! Most beautiful music I ever heard!

  • I entirely agree with Naked Bison 69. Simple perfection-as close as you can get musically on this earth.

  • extraordinario!!

  • He was born in my Homeregion.......only perfect people there....;-)

  • All we can think of is "that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable things said which it is not allowed to man to utter."

  • i hear so much of Handel in this work ! must have been a great influence for him.

  • @RemovdSande11 it's not Handel, it's Gluck.

  • @Mooweedy

    I know ? =P

  • Dieses Stück wurde auf einer Kinderplatte bei dem Märchen "König Drosselbart", (beim Tanz im Ballsaal) gespielt. Ich liebte es schon als kleines Kind. :o)

  • Yes, a perfect interpretation, gorgeous!

  • this may be the single most gorgeously beautiful, absolutely perfect piece of music I have ever heard in my entire life

  • simply wonderful

  • You two...off subject, can we just seat back and enjoy this masterpiece? please?

  • beautiful music!

  • This is the last place I'd prefer to sound foolish, but at 5:50, I'm not entirely sure what instrument it is, but it's completely on its own (perhaps a flute). The melody though sounds all too familiar. I know for a fact that a different composition has a similar melody to that six seconds but I just don't know where from. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

  • @throwindembows

    That sounded like a clarinet

  • Hi throwindembows - The solo instrument at 5.50 is indeed a flute - the same flute that's been playing a featured part from 2.40. This is a very well-known solo to flute players. As for the phrase you're talking about, it's a very similar phrase as found in many baroque and rococco pieces (eg JS Bach) - you could have heard something like it anywhere in the music of that period, or later. Can't help you identify a specific piece, I'm afraid.

  • Beautiful music by Gluck, one of my favorite composers. @hootersnooter I'm without words - this guys are truly lifeless

  • I am totally appalled by the nature of the comments below - Gluck was a brilliant composer - his faith is nothing to do with his talent - maybe you idiots should listen to music rather than bitch about nothing to do with Gluck. Right on Johnad10 - damn right!

  • hootersnooter the appalling, idiotic jerk loves to complain and is damn wrong

  • nakedbison69 you are an idiot, just shut up and enjoy the music you fool! no one gives a shit what you are saying, so dont spend you sad life typing rubbish on youtube.

  • Johnad10 is an idiotic fool who needs to shut up. nobody gives a shit what johnad10 is saying. johnad spends his pathetic life typing rubbish on youTube

  • Why in God's name are you guys areguing about religion and race? Ths is Gluck...

  • PTCello argues about religion and race

  • Why music like this is not possible nowadays? Where is our fault?

  • because it is considered more trendy and cool to be original than to be good. this is too bad, because I am sure that there are people out there who have the knowledge and ability to write more great music in the spirit of Baroque and 18th century classical music

  • This is so very touching. It is just sublimely beautiful. It comes in the middle of the opera, and is a prelude to Orfeo's going across to the other side to find Euridice. Thanks Willibald!

  • EPIC.....need i say more?

  • We HATE WMG!!!This wonderful music has been composed 200 years ago,so STOP with your stupid controls about,in front of composers you WMG etc are NOTHING!!!!!!!

  • WMG?

  • =Warner Music Group, copyright holder of this performance (who apparently tried to get this deleted on infringement grounds.)

  • I'm surprised they didn't succeed!

  • Magnifica melodia... Anche il resto dell'opera può essere definita STUPENDA!

  • I want this at my wedding, the formal part.

  • I used to listen to this with candlelight or no light. VERY soothing after a hectic day!

  • This is the real german spirit !

  • Hast Du einen an der Waffel, Du Depp?

  • How do you get the spirit of the nazis from this? Just because it is German doesn't mean it is nazis. This is some 150 years before the Nazi party even existed.

  • true, but there is a reason why the nazis were able to come to power in the first place, namely German antisemitism. adolf shitler merely took advantage of that atmosphere that was already there

  • Well, I wasn't alive during that period but from my understanding from learning about it. Germans in particular didn't have the antisemitism. It was Hitler as he was elected in a democratic election, shifted the blame of losing the First war and the resulting poverty to the Jewish citizens, as they were the shop owners and had the money. With anyone feeling hurt in bad times, the German populus suffered from sheep mentality. Hitler, a figure of authority, told them Jews were bad.

  • Saying that Jews had all the money, can itself be antisemitic statement. Of course there are very wealthy Jews around, but there are also many poor ones, and ones that are struggling to earn ever dollar, like in my case.

adolf shitler could only carry out what he did, in a country that is already antisemitic. he could never get away with it here in America, except maybe along those loyal to Obama and other extreme Leftists

  • Comment cont.

That isn't a reason for the atrocities that resulted from the Nazis Party nor do I support the (Neo)Nazis movement.

It is a psychological effect that has been studied by doctors and psychiatrists and is well documented and a google search results in plenty of supporting evidence. Particularly a white coat directing medical students to give increasing electro-shock therapy on a patient. (that was the study conducted)

  • you are talking about Philip Zimbardo's famous Standford Prison Experiment. I know about this because I studied psychology in college. But this experiment talks about the sadistic nature that human beings have in general. It was not about antisemitism in particular

  • Well, not only was it about sadistic nature, but the willingness to follow an authorative figure, even if what you were doing conflicted with your morals.

Granted, there are some that are sadists and would do such things without having to be prompted by such figures. History shows this time and time again.

Hitler carrying out what he did isn't necessarily restricted to an atisemetic nation. He was put into power because he was charismatic and got people on his side.

  • yes, that famous experiment demonstrated how people can so easily be led into causing pain to others. It was all about obediance to authority.

However, antisemitism is a very special case of hatred. Group A may hate Group B who in turn hates Group C, but that is where it starts and ends. But virtually everybody hates the Jews. It is the deepest, long lasting, yet most irrational hatred in the history of mankind

  • Added to that there was already growing dissent towards the well to do by the lower classes. I don't think it would have mattered if the target was Jewish, Muslim or Christian, if I remember correctly, he thought he was doing the work of the almighty by cleansing his nation of the inferior (Jews). History doesn't look to kindly on Hitler for what he did, as it shouldn't. But then again, history is a distorted account written by the winners. Had Germany won, I am sure he'd be viewed differently.

  • If Jews are rich, they are hated for being greedy exploiters. If Jews are poor, the are hated for being leeches and parasites. If Jews keep to themselves, they are hated for being snobbish and standoffish. If Jews intereact with gentiles, they are dangerous infiltrators. adolf shitler did not invent this deep seated, long lasting, completely irrational hatred of the Jews; he exploited what was already there

  • Stupid character restrictions.

Granted the Middle Eastern Muslims that we see in the news are painted as jihadists and want to kill all that don't believe in their faith. I know quite a few Muslims that are very accepting of my faith, or lack thereof. Although I am wandering away from the topic of antisemitism, it still plays into the unquestioning of some traditions that are merely followed because they are traditions.

  • on the contrary, the media is far too generous and forgiving of the islamofascist terrorists. Mohammed himself ordered his islamofascist followers to murder anybody standing in their way of total world domination

  • The same could be said for the Christian crusades or the bible, in exodus, God ordering that non-believers be put to death if they won't convert.

Religion is a very violent thing and I personally think the world would be better off without it. While there are peaceful Muslims, Indonesia and the Philippeans are hugely Muslim populations and they aren't on jihadist missions against America. I have several Muslim friends and not once have they tried to convert me or shown any violence towards me.

  • Jewish Bullshit as usual; Uable to listen to the music... poor satanish folk!

  • sjokolade777 engages in nazi bullshit as usual, unable to refrain from expressing admiration for his hero, adolf shitler...sjokolade is a satanic nazi

  • @nakedBison69 Well Nethanyahou and Obongo are your heroes? Ok for me... JewSA is not USA and JewRopa is not Europa. Let us enjoy our culture and music and art; I understand hat you preafer Holywood OK for me, Hahaha!

  • Hey, you should attack the person's argument nor make personal attacks about their race, religion or culture. It only serves to belittle your own argument.

  • sjokolade777 engages in nazi bullshit as usual, unable to listen to the music how typical of shitler-loving satan worshipers like sjokolade777

  • I don't support Hitler or anything and I hope you don't take this discussion personally. If you studied psychology, I am sure you know the Meyers-Briggs personality types. I'm an INTP and I find this intellectually stimulating. I thank you for not getting angry and resorting to shouting and name calling. My hat is off to you, good sir.

  • at least so far, you do not strike me as being antisemitic at all. plus, you actually sound quite intelligent and coherent, two traits that are usually so lacking here in the comments section of youTube. and the truth is, that I so much value intelligence and education, that I even like listening to people like Pat Buchanan, despite his antisemitism.

I am well aware of the Myers-Briggs Personality Inventory, based on Carl Jung's personality types. I am an INFJ

  • Unfortunately there are some people that aren't ruled by logic or reason. They are heavily influenced by standing traditions and don't bother to question the reasoning behind it. They take it at face value and blindly follow. It is something their parents have done and they see no reason to change. Antisemitism is one of these. I live in an area of heavy Christianity, even though the doctrine states to love thy neighbors, countless have a hatred for Muslims that is unwarranted.

  • well, actaully, the one hatred for a group that I think IS very much justified is hatred toward the islamofascists. followers of any given ideology are often a reflection of the founder of that ideology, and islamofascism is no different. mohammed was a terribly violent, disgusting excuse for a human being, engaging in 68 jihads in his lifetime, going on murderous rampages against anybody not cruel enough to become moslem themselves

  • proletinkult the stupid nazi needs to shut up while getting fucked by his lesbian daddy

  • @nakedBison69 I'm not a nazi but you are definitely a stupid and noisy jew.

  • proletinkult is definitely a stupid and noisy nazi

  • There are a few operas whose musical high point happens to be a purely instrumental passage. This is one. I am very fond of this piece; it was the second processional at my wedding.

  • very nice. do you happen to know if he wrote other purely instrumental pieces of music as gorgeously beautiful as this one? If so, please let me know what they are. I just love 18th century Baroque/classical music

  • Hi

I work in the theatre and we need backround music for a play and i was wondering if you could send me the mp3 of Orfeo ed Euridice - Dance of the Blessed Spirits

  • Splendid!

  • I love this overture alot !!!

It's beautiful. Makes you feel happy :)

  • ....thanks dad!

  • My favo classic piece of all times..tanks dad!

  • I played it this year at the flute ( not as good as Karlheinz Zoeller ;) ) Just love it !

  • this is about as beautiful as music could possibly get. it is gorgeousness that almost defies adequate description

  • Heitfetz

  • From all the music I have enjoyed up to today, this piece is my most beloved. On my page there are several versions. Some, specially a solo instrumental and a violin int. from Jascha H. (You think I'd take the risk of misspelling his last name? ;-) phonetically: heiftez is close enough

  • so beautiful!

  • Simple perfection. Gluck is smiling in Heaven right now, knowing his work has been more than adequately interpreted.

    A true gift to hear

    . A treasure.

  • Who performs this? Is this is the Munich Chamber Orchestra?

  • This version is performed by the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Herbert von Karajan, wit Karlheinz Zoeller, flute. It is available on CD.

  • Thank You!

  • Enjoy!

  • Sublime, absolutely sublime!

  • Comment removed

  • This is sublime, but have a look classical fans at Focus the Dutch prog rock band playing 'Janis' and see what went around coming around a few 100 yrs later.

  • Gluck means luck in german. We are lucky he wrote this. He was lucky to have been blessed with such talent.

  • @nicodagger

Gluck is a Name....... Luck in german is "Glück" ....... different things

  • Used to perform this as a child. Recently aquired a flute and its taking me back playing it again..

  • Christophe Willibald Gluck isn't usually one of my favourite baroque composers - but this overture to Orpheus & Euridice is breathtakingly beautiful all the same!

  • He wasn't baroque, though he was a contemporary of Handel. He died in 1787. He's a classical era composer(and he was Mozart's favorite composer.)

  • it's not the overture - it takes place about halfway through the opera

    better luck next time!

  • @HOT5PUR1

It's not the overture. And Gluck isn't a Baroque composer. And in fact the rest of the opera is much more beautiful than this.

  • @rororosie1987 Certainly it's not the Ouverture, but, about baroqueness, there could be some discussion. The Vienna version was written for the castrato Gaetano Guadagni, and the finale has a still a lot to do with baroque conception of theater, dont'you think? Greetings!

  • who is playing this?

  • bello!!!grazie!!Cris

  • This used to come on the radio some nights as I was falling asleep...It would bring tears to my eyes. Lovely!

  • Ein Stück zu Sterben schön

  • Muchas gracias. Es maravilloso.

  • AAAA. 050826Z MAR 2009 Thank you for posting.......AR.

  • I am a 21 years old hardrock-metal fan and singing in an opera choir. On 20-21 and 22 march my choir will perform this opera in the Netherlands and it is simply beautifull. Every time we sing i just melt away in the opera. This instrumental peice is just to romantic. I love it. Thank you C.W. Gluck:D

  • This is one of the most beautiful classical pieces I have ever heard. I can dream away with this music.

  • I am usually into death metal but this is simply beautiful. It's extremelly difficult not to like musical masterpieces such as this one.

  • DAS ist Kunst! Net nur auf's Kneppsche drücke....;-)

  • love it :) I think 3:39-3:49 is the most beautiful part

  • I absolutely agree! :) one of my favourites

  • You should hear the way Rachmaninoff plays it. Check it out out at Rachmaninoff plays Gluck. Enjoy.
