That's impossible. Vicksburg was probably the best band in the state when they did the Phantom show. But unfortunately for them the State Championship wasn't established till the marching season of 03' and Grenada won.
since there was no state championship at the time winning pearl invitational for your school class, ie. 5a meant you were the best in the state. it was the largest band competition in the state, i think second at the time was the invitational itawamba did or something like that.
Where did Grenada go, or Southaven, or Olive Branch, Or Petal, or Harrison Central? Pearl was one Regional contest of 6, what gives you the right to say it was the best one.
@CaptDouchebag No the best year VHS ever had was 2001-2002 when we perfomed Stevie Wonder and had 52 bungie flags on the field. We placed 3rd in the state that year.
I knew after '05 the band was on a downhill slope, and after '06 graduated it was pretty much condemned. I think Mr. Steed is doing the right thing though, just needs time to build up a new band from one that had been decaying.
Lol. I just read all the comments about the Kings. Sad, really. I'm Ven, the Pit Captain for this season and for the shows before and after. Literally, I and the other Section Leaders were the heart and soul of this band. We pushed everyone and even ourselves to bring out the best that was physically possible. There was not "ONE" factor to blame for the down fall of the band. I only wish you guys could had felt the pain that I and the other Section Leaders felt from our Sophmore to Senior years.
What Director from V'burg went to Grenada? I know the Wiggs went to Tupelo and Madison Always did win didn't always have the best band but Vicksburg honestly did better than Madison one year that was the Phantom show even though disco was good and deserved 2nd and not 3rd that year.
yea at state Grenada n Tueplo who ironically has 2 of our old directors.. at Pearl.. it was rigged.. Madison Central always won... but they had 2 different bands.. all bands not jus ours know that.. .thats y erobyd was always pissed
If i recall correctly the State contest wasn't created till Fall of 03" and was held at Vicksburg high. Then ever since it's been held at Clinton. There was always a regional but not till fall of 03 was the state contest held.

There is plenty here at DSU. You can't come here for a day and be like there's nothing to do. You have to live here. There's plenty to do I'm never bored, and I'm very happy i came here and not MS State. I've been to plenty of other schools, and spent a good many of time at other schools. But DSU is my home and I haven't gotten sick of it yet.

You can ask whoever the head is now to look it up and if he can't find it ask him to get a hold of that info. Ya know what i mean because the records should be there all the same.

It is impossible to keep track of how many points you have, of course you have the little list you fill out at the end of the year, but they want you to add all the other stuff you have done outside of the activities listed on the paper. So it is literally impossible to know your exact number, only the directors will know that exactly.
Can how many points did you have over all you got the 1500 point award but how many points did you have? Because it's not hard to get just 1500 points.

About 14 people from VHS tried out this year. 4 made callbacks, I made the band, Huey got honorable mention, darius didn't make the list, and shane got 1st alternate.
Don't you dare tell me what our music is supposed to sound like, or that it was good. The music sucked because the people in our band just didn't care. There was no balance with the sound and no amount of rehearsing helped. That and King was batshit.
As a band captain you accepted the fact that you have to assist your section leader/ director in helping better the band as a whole. If you made lions band that shows that you have a great deal of talent and I congratulate you, but use your talent to help others increase their own.
People just didn't care anymore. Did you read the comments made earlier? More than half our members the past few years have only been in band to get into the games for free. It's hard to get people who just don't care about the show to march correctly. I agree with what you said, I'd love to be in a band of only about 50 people who all worked hard than the crap we've had to put up with the last few years. Pretty much the only people who worked were the captains anyway.
The band has never been about the directors, the band is about the members of the band. A director does not get on the field and march a show, or play his instrument, you do. If you think your good the practice and show the initiative to show your fellow class men. One, two, or three directors can not micro manage a whole band and their performance. If you were to ask how many practice there instruments outside of school you would probably get under 5%.
Which is something the people who do go home and practice everday, like me, can't control. Save me your bullshit, I've been a captain since I was a sophomore.

This year was not horrible i like this show i don't think it gives a bad presentation of your school. And Canibalgofer i was trying to be nice about everything you didn't have to try to make me look stupid because i knew exactly what happened, yes it's a rough road ahead i've already been down it with the Arendale's but i've graduated since. A sure fire way for it to get worse is to have a bad attitude it can be good again with good attitudes.

This school was great. This was the year after they lost their band director of 15 years. This was their first bad year in a long time. 3 years previous they were the best band in the state marching 280 people. They've just had if rough past couple years.
Umm. No the Wiggingtons (our previous band directors) were only there for 8 years. And our band director we had at the time of this show was caught embezzling from us. Rough doesn't begin to describe it.
I wish there was a youtube when I was the drum major @vhs in 2002. Good Job VHS.
