A child could have an abusive asshole of a father, or one that neglects him/her entirely. Interesting comments...we have quite a different social welfare system here in Australia. We also have a strong history of unions protecting workers etc. I see your point about people working hard to pay the bills. Good point. Everything is getting worse and everything costs more. My country isnt my coutnry no more. Everything is falling apart and within a short time we have the same poverty as in the US. Very sorry to hear what's happening in the Netherlands. Australia wasn't affected much at all during the global crisis. We do export a lot of natural resources (lots of mining etc.) so perhaps that helped us. Good luck.
I'm from Sweden, and dont know everything about these people. But the only honest and straight-forward person seems to be Ron Paul. Everyone else just seem to "beat around the bushes" (If that's the correct saying) and just avoid questions and "trick" people into getting their trust.

With all due respect, this is missing the point. A lot of Americans can't get health insurance because the HMOs are slimy bastards and bar them due to ridiculous pre-existing conditions. It's not that we are choosing not to pay, it's that we are literally disqualified. How is that right or just? If it wasn't for the Obamacare bill, this is how things would still be, whatever else may be wrong about that bill, it makes it possible for self-employed people to at least have a chance.

@JohnOpheim hello. I am not an American but I wish Dr. Ron Paul will get elected as president. I believe Dr. Paul's policies are interconnected. For instance, once there is sound money, people would be able to afford to pay for a lot of things with their income. Once there is free market, prices will go down due to competition. I believe he also mentioned he is pro alternative medicine. He puts a lot of emphasis on princinples such as that people should take care of and look after one another.

That woman is an idiot: medical care paid through taxes is the same thing as road being paid through taxes, it's not a service someone is being forced to buy against their will. Taxes are never optional. I'm sure she drives a car for instance: one should only take her seriously if she was willing to pay for all roads she drives on directly from her own pocket. Anything else just makes her a hypocrite.
Everyone needs medical care at one point or another, the same way that everyone uses roads.

That you must at the minimum purchase the insurance offered by the federal government. That is unconstitutional and is not covered by interstate commerce clause.

Noone is going to claim "Hey I never agreed to pay taxes for building or restoring roads, I never even get out of the house! You're forcing me to purchase a service I don't want!" Replace roads with medical care and hopefully you get the point. Affordable medical care is not a commercial service, it's a duty any civilized country has towards its citizens.
@lsamoa The taxes I pay don't take care of the mandate for me though. That would be money in addition to taxes that I would have to pay. If the federal govt. offered affordable healthcare that I could choose to purchase that would be okay. That doesn't change the fact that a mandate isn't allowed by the US constitution. If you want a mandate write a proposition to be voted on in your state. Also interstate roads are covered under the constitution so I don't get your analogy.
@Brett9897 A universal healthcare should fall under the obligation of the federal government, not of individual member states: no breach to the 10th Amendment. The simple fact that people move around and don't spend their whole life within one state is enough of a reason. US citizens should also have access to the same quality of healthcare regardless of postcode. This is not the first time the Congress passes individual mandates either (hint: mandatory car insurance), so I don't see your point.

Car insurance is not a federal mandate, each state has a mandate so using your analogy we agree that mandates should be a state issue. Brett is right. This is why more than one judge has ruled that "Obamacare" is unconstitutional. Car insurance mandates are by the states, not the federal government. The federal government doesn't have the right to force you to buy a private product, such as health insurance, unless interstate commerce is affected. "Being alive," which is the sole criterion for having to purchase health insurance, does not affect interstate commerce.

A child could have an abusive asshole of a father, or one that neglects him/her entirely. The problem with Ron Paul is that your getting the entire package. The complete reversal of the system, the destruction of the Fed, the removal of the tax system etc and all that implies. The consequences for each change is huge, America and the entire worlds financial systems will fail, and will not recover until a long time. You can't reverse 50 years of reform in one presidential term.

He has said before regarding social security, for example, a program he is philosophically opposed to, that under the present conditions in which people have not been saving enough for retirement, and have been banking on the the promise of these benefits, that it would be harmful to repeal soc sec.. Paul would establish the conditions beyond which it will be possible to make the changes he would like.

We also have a strong history of unions protecting workers etc. I see your point about people working hard to pay the bills. Good point. But if the need arises where he needs it, and demands it, then he should not be turned away.

He assumes the cost of the health care that must be paid back fully by garnishing his wages and his savings and liquidating his assets.

With all due respect, this is missing the point. A lot of Americans can't get health insurance because the HMOs are slimy bastards and bar them due to ridiculous pre-existing conditions. It's not that we are choosing not to pay, it's that we are literally disqualified. How is that right or just? If it wasn't for the Obamacare bill, this is how things would still be, whatever else may be wrong about that bill, it makes it possible for self-employed people to at least have a chance.

Ron Paul has said this more than once, "we never turned anybody away"... But who pays the bills for, say, chemotherapy? A Church? The neigbor? No. So the only way out is to admit this person was responsible for himself and should be left for dead. Fair statement. But what if a child has leukemia and the parents don't have health care?
This is one of the few subjects I disagree with Ron Paul on. If anyone can convince me differently please do! I'd be more than happy to be 100% for this guy!

@JohnOpheim hello. I am not an American but I wish Dr. Ron Paul will get elected as president. I believe Dr. Paul's policies are interconnected. For instance, once there is sound money, people would be able to afford to pay for a lot of things with their income. Once there is free market, prices will go down due to competition. I believe he also mentioned he is pro alternative medicine. He puts a lot of emphasis on princinples such as that people should take care of and look after one another.

I wish somebody could invite him to be more specific on this in an interview. That woman is an idiot: medical care paid through taxes is the same thing as road being paid through taxes, it's not a service someone is being forced to buy against their will. Taxes are never optional. I'm sure she drives a car for instance: one should only take her seriously if she was willing to pay for all roads she drives on directly from her own pocket. Anything else just makes her a hypocrite.
Everyone needs medical care at one point or another, the same way that everyone uses roads.

@lsamoa I guess you don't understand the bill she is talking about then. I think she is a terrible candidate and will never vote her but she is talking about the individual mandate. That you must at the minimum purchase the insurance offered by the federal government. That is unconstitutional and is not covered by interstate commerce clause.

@Brett9897 I guess you don't understand my comment then... People play around with terminology, but at the end of the day it's the same thing. Noone is going to claim "Hey I never agreed to pay taxes for building or restoring roads, I never even get out of the house! You're forcing me to purchase a service I don't want!" Replace roads with medical care and hopefully you get the point. Affordable medical care is not a commercial service, it's a duty any civilized country has towards its citizens.

@lsamoa The taxes I pay don't take care of the mandate for me though. That would be money in addition to taxes that I would have to pay. If the federal govt. offered affordable healthcare that I could choose to purchase that would be okay. That doesn't change the fact that a mandate isn't allowed by the US constitution. If you want a mandate write a proposition to be voted on in your state. Also interstate roads are covered under the constitution so I don't get your analogy.

@Brett9897 A universal healthcare should fall under the obligation of the federal government, not of individual member states: no breach to the 10th Amendment. The simple fact that people move around and don't spend their whole life within one state is enough of a reason. US citizens should also have access to the same quality of healthcare regardless of postcode. This is not the first time the Congress passes individual mandates either (hint: mandatory car insurance), so I don't see your point.

@lsamoa No one is talking about universal healthcare so I don't know why you brought that up. We are talking about the individual mandate to purchase your own healthcare. Car insurance is not a federal mandate, each state has a mandate so using your analogy we agree that mandates should be a state issue. You only have to buy car insurance if you buy a car so it still isn't forced on everybody. The argument that we move around is not valid. If you want gov hc move to states that offer it.

Brett is right. This is why more than one judge has ruled that "Obamacare" is unconstitutional. Car insurance mandates are by the states, not the federal government. The federal government doesn't have the right to force you to buy a private product, such as health insurance, unless interstate commerce is affected. "Being alive," which is the sole criterion for having to purchase health insurance, does not affect interstate commerce.
