The pronounciation for german "z" = speaking "ts" at the same time.

It's the same one like in "righ-ts", "boo-ts" or "shee-ts".

By the way: For "No shit?" You even can say in german "Ohne Scheiß?" or "Kein Scheiß?" (you can also write Scheiss).

If you need an good dictionary try (It's really the best web site in my opinion) "dict(dot)cc". There are also phrases like "no shit?" and even much more. You also can ask me anytime, if you need somme help with your german.

Sometimes 'ohne Scheiß' can be used like 'for real' in Englisch. I think it's somehow even used in the same situation, as it's more colloquial and non standard.

I find it funny and interesting that you share your experiences with german literature (and pop science magazines) with us... If you were here in germany, you could sit right next to me, read a newspaper and I wouldn't even notice you're not a native speaker.

(When it comes to talking there is in fact a minor difference to a native speaker. But you're close to it - there are other native english speakers who cultivated their linguistic difference.)

And your pronunciation is not too bad at all. What you should practice more is the Ü for instance (you just pronounce it as a U), and the Z always should sound like there was written "ts". (I've done a 10 minute German Pronunciation Tutorial video btw which features all of the important letters and letter combinations.)
