The language is Yiddish. Morrie is clearly a son of an immigrant Russian Jewish family.

yeah:) but i know morrie also has a brother..the one in the book where morrie said that their father made them believe that their stepmom was their real mom.and that morrie and his brother would go "skiing" in the streets together..is that morrie?? or mitch?? i forgot :(

no way! you can hear cleary : "Schwartz ist gestorben", which sounds like german but the rest doesn't. So track123455 is probably right, jewish (Morrie was jewish)
