The New Seekers were far better... Their performance was magical and their song was much nicer by music, lyrics and voice. They really should have won... The (Eve Graham, Lyn Paul, Peter Doyle, Marty Kristian and Paul Layton) New Seekers is the best band ever!
I think the message is important in music too, and not just dramatic, powerful orchestral arrangement, like in apres toi, the verses are nice but i think the chorus is just shouting, I just wanted to say my opinion, don't be offended =) Luxembourg's 1973 entry by anne-marie david on the other hand was the best of that year also in my opinion. But UK is just magical in 1972
new seeker's song was much nicer and the lyrics are have more to them, they're about friendship and a finer world "i always knew that the world could be a finer place" =) and the singers are so sweet. You can really see the emotions and friendship, how they really like each other, in their eyes. This song has potential but i think the outcome is somehow flat and monotonous. But this one won so it's fine by me. Gongratulations to Vicky , she's really nice and is a very talented singer =)
I do think beg steal or borrow was better and I'm not insane =) I love vicky and the french language and luxembourg and this is beautifully sung by vicky, a really strong performance but i find the song itself pretty ordinary and bland and boring, just somehow a "typical" song, heard songs like this many many times before, not original at all, and the lyrics are typical"oh I love you and now i'm crying because you're gone" stuff. beg steal or borrow is much nicer and has a beautiful message =)
This was easily the best song of the 1972 eurovision contest.....and she sang it to the max. Its a pity she didnt have the international recognition that lesser singers have enjoyed.
my how i love this song. The german version, Dann kamst Du, my mother got in the 70's. its still with me today. its amazing. Just beautiful...........
Firstly, it should be the german entry, but Germany said no, because it's in French and not in German. I'm from Germany and ask me, why was the old Germany so stupid? :/
@6PBP6: Vickys dad wrote a large portion of her repertoire of songs. If you listen to her songs in the various languages you realise his mastery! As well as French and English versions there are spanish, Italian, German, Greek and Reportedly Japanese.Of course, each language doesnt have the same syllable count for a word so the story lines are different. So clever is Vickys dad!!!
I am english......this performance...and song were the best ever...of course I like the english version, but this was a class song performed by a class singer...no dancing girls ..or guys ..no digital enhancement///just first class lyrics, music and vocals.....I despair..when will we see anthing to compare.....OK..IUK sometimes have good songs....not very often...but nothing to matc this classic....why do I not hear it more on radio??
Actually this is one of the few occasions on which Ms Leandros has been able to hold a note. Her performance of the classic "L'amour est bleu" in the 1967 ESC was not good at all, and in the 2006 German final she was a total disgrace.
Although the UK entry was a better song (and performance), it failed to win, probably because many judges resented the home team's heavy publicity campain. And, when all is said and done, "Après toi" does remain a true classic
Are you insane .. Beg steal or borrow was NOT a better song than this ..and Vicky nailed it dead right here in 72 . It won because it's a classic , even today .. She's much older now , but in her day she killed with this song ..

What are you on about you Prick. in 1967 Vicky was only 15 and clearly the occasion got the better of her and it's well documented that in 2006 there were technical difficulties and she could not hear the accompanying music.

Does anyone have an English version of this song on video? I remember this song from when I was (a lot)younger and I'm glad I've an English version on my mp3 as it's great!
There were times in the days gone by,when i thought i was living, having fun with all the friends i knew. Now your here everything is new,you are all that i long for,and i long for you to stay'come what may' I will love you forever, and forever my heart belongs to you'come what may'in a world full of changes, nothing chances my love for you....Its a great song..i believe her name is Vicky Leandros.Don't know if thats spelt right..LOL
you can see she sings this song from the heart,a fantastic song and performance ,and it sounds just as good in english, but saying that vicky would have made it sound good in any language
You speak Spanish? You're full of surprises, my Scottish friend. :) Y sí, es totalmente mejor. Esto es uno de los ganadores que a mí me gusta muchísimo. Y aunque pregunto, ?porque hablamos en español? (Pero es divertido :D)
Her father was the driving force behind her singing in Eurovsion, insisting that although he lived in Germany, she sing in French to have the best chance of winning and thus why she represented Luxembourg. BTW, in 72 throughout most Europe the UK, Netherlands & Germany were seen as the clear favourites.
This song and performance really speaks for itself. What beauty an passion! Fabulous song and performance! This was one of those year's when the winner was just obvious, really. Incidentally, did Vicky's success encourage Greece to enter the contest (similar to Live Report's Ray Caruana inspiring the Maltese to return after an extensive break)?
I can't be totally sure, but it's quite possible that it did. From what I know, Vicky's win did get a lot of publicity here in Greece, so perhaps it raised awareness of the contest amd prepared the ground for us giving it a try (not to mention that she must have made it look easy to win the contest - if only we knew!)
@tasosk3 Too bad Nora Nova's participation in 1964 for Germany (West, back then, didn't) but yeah, we were a communist state back then, so I'm not too surprised. She finished last which is another very good argument. X-D

@tasosk3 Her song became my fave without even knowing she was such. And she's stil alive. :-) She came back in Bulgaria after we became a democratic country, I guess. She has published her autobiography recently. How long haven't we discussed ESC?! X-D
@setheurovision94 Some time ago I heard someone (can't remember the name but surely into Eurovision and the Maltese Participation) that Malta had actually been trying to enter the contest for some time. Knowing Maltese history of the time I'd hint at 1987 earliest. Malta entered the 1991 contest temporarily replacing the Netherlands because of the 22 country rule prohibiting more than 22 participating countries. @6PBP6 My guess is that "Toi"and "May" resonate well when sung fortissimo, while "You" just does not work.
