IMO there is no direct association with sea.

"morre" (море) is an exclamation that in folklore means "it would not happen"

The girl is by the river, waiting for her beloved to come, but he is actually going not to her, but to the forest (forest in bulgarian folklore is directly associtated with the rebels vs. the yoke)

However the light motive of the song is "whatever happens their love will remain". And the water of the river will wash out the tears of the girl.
