These are all light apps. Try running Vegas Pro and have it render x264 compressed source material to HD format. Next to that have bittorrent active with 8 torrents up and down, run 8 firefox Windows, with several Flashvideo based sites, some with AJAX, Java, all comments on YouTube pages, meanwhile view a 720p mkv movie or two, have some really big audiofiles open in SoundForge, work on some projects in VirtualDub, encode some vids with ffmpeg, etc. Trust me, it'll be slow.

No, it sure doesnt but it helps keep the cpu from having to write to the hard disk as if it was the RAM. ....Or simply crash.  I had that problem with Adobe premiere. If I put too much video up to edit it would slow then crash.

No it doesn't quite work like that. Besides, the amount of loaded files is the culprit in your statement here, not the amount of RAM. Sure, if you load 50 huge applications, then you could use a little more RAM, but what is shown in the movie here doesn't even come near 1 GB of RAM when opened. You will not notice a bit of difference adding 1 GB more if you use your PC as shown in the video here. An excess of RAM is a waste of power like you would not believe!
