If you want it loud, cut off the cats, and get 6 inch tips, I had a 1996 chevy tahoe that was true dual, no cats, no mufflers, through 2.25" piping, and came out 6 inch tips, I set car alarms off with it
oh and to whoever said smaller piping made it quieter, thats actually the opposite. you will notice a difference from 2 to 3 inch straight pipes trust me, when i had 2 inch duals on my mustang it was really loud and poppy sounding, kind of raspy but when i went with 3 it sounded better (and a little quieter). I wouldn't go bigger then 2.5 on a stock truck though you actually just lose power
i agree with the previous comment..my truck is basically the same as yours, i have true dual 2 1/4 pipe, high flow magnaflow cats, no mufflers, and 3.5"x24" tips and it rips...the neighbors hate me lol
@NorthAmericanArcher forreal geting pipes like that aint that expensive. my 04 silverado sounds like that and all i did was take the glasspacks that i had on it before off. it still has cats because i want a little backpressure but hell it cost me 50 bucks.. just put a peice of 2 3/4 inch pipe in its place
its not straight pipes if it has cats jesus christ that pisses me off. no cats will make it louder, just piping all the way back, a set of headers will help and thats about all you can do, smaller piping will help make it a big louder but give it a worse sound (my opinion)
@bowenarrow10 get a set of equal lengths if you can get them to fit.. not sure about them on these trucks. my dad has a 5.3 and they run pretty strong, was pleasntly suprised
@bowenarrow10 Without the cats does that turn on your check engine light, and how is your fuel milage. The computers in the newer pickups are meant to have cats on the exhaust, but hey if it works that's freakin awesome.
@Leafsrule016 actually if you put high flow cats and with that exhaust and a cold air intake then that will make the truck sound alot better and a little bit louder
@MRYAMAHARIDER121 nothing is louder then with cats but yeah, if you put some high flow cats you will actually gain power (or keep the power you lost by cutting them off in the first place.) Cold air intakes are overrated, the only noticable difference for me was the noise of them.
@zkl1995 yes it does dumbass, thats why they call them straight pipes, nothing but piping all the way back. if you have cats and no mufflers, then your just wasting your time.
@zkl1995 its not straight pipes if it has cats .. i called him out on that and he responded that he took his cats off. problem solved really so stop commenting
@zkl1995 dumbass, you dont know what your talking about. no mufflers is called no mufflers, straight pipes means straight piping all the way back, nothing else, no reasonators, no cats, no mufflers. Why do you think they call them straight pipes and not an exhaust with hacked off mufflers?
@Leafsrule016 Your the one who doesnt know what your fucking talking about! I should know i have straight pipes (no mufflers). cats arent mufflers and straight pipes is no mufflers so that means it doesnt matter. when they diddnt even use cats, when somebody took off the muffler it was called straight pipes, so when you take off the mufflers, or mufflers and cats, its called straight pipes. get your shit straight!!!
@zkl1995 go somewhere where people know what they're talking about and arn't 16 year old kids please before you decide on these things. Take your cats off if you want straight pipes... I'm not sure why they wern't the first thing you took off actually.
@Leafsrule016 i took off my mufflers. its plenty loud enough and it doesnt sound like shit since it still has cats. and who said anything about 16 year old kids?
throw some longtubes and maybe some hi-flow cats on there and thatll make it rediculous or if you want just take the cats off, doesnt really sound good but its louder for sure
If you want it loud, cut off the cats, and get 6 inch tips, I had a 1996 chevy tahoe that was true dual, no cats, no mufflers, through 2.25" piping, and came out 6 inch tips, I set car alarms off with it
