I have to agree with Arum on the paychecks. Mixed Martial Arts/UFC is arguably a more popular and revenue generating sport than boxing right now and yet top boxers get payed so much more than even UFC fighters. Guys who are in the preliminary fights usually only get around 5,000-6,000 dollars.

You know the money that the ufc fighters make in the fight night is just a side paycheck right? They also get paid monthly thats what I heard. They also have free doctors. Thats why everybody is trying to get in the ufc not boxing.
Boxing puts on events every 3 months or so and the UFC every 2 weeks. So yeah, Dana White is giving back to the sport, that's us the fans. It's not a privilege to be a fighter it's an obligation. If you love fighting or whatever it is you're passionate about, you should be doing it for free but yes people need to make a living. Athletes shouldn't be paid millions of dollars because it kills their love for the sport.

Undercard fighters in the UFC get paid 6000 to fight and 6000 to win, if you fight 4 times a year that's 48000 a year. Not including bonuses and sponsors, plus as you have more fights and you start winning you get paid even more, maybe 10000 to fight and 10000 to win.

@CrashArtSkillz According to Lorenzo they payout in the neighborhood of 50% to the fighters. They need to be able to recover money for marketing future events. Fighters have an audit clause in their contract which allows them to go in with a team of accountants to view all the money made by an event. Zuffa never disclose a fighters salary to the public but that doesn't mean they aren't making good money. They have made about 40 fighters millionaires in the last 6 years.

@SirMicDre What you are looking at is only a show purse, they don't report the fighters actual salaries to the public. Think of it as a bonus for showing up to work for a day on top of your normal salary. On top of all that there is PPV generated revenue paid out to the main event & sometimes co-main event fighters. Three side bonus's to win on the night including KO; submission & fight of the night. Fighters also make sponsorship money as does the UFC from it's own sponsors ect.

Bob has a good point about Dana paying much less. However, there are some other factors to consider. Big money isn't making boxers make fights. Paqman and Mayweather would have already fought if they were UFC fighters. The stalling and avoiding big fights is a problem for boxing that turns off many fans. Also, UFC fighters owe much to the UFC and it's smart management which grows the sport. It can't be said that boxers owe much to their organizations because they keep embarrassing.

While at the same time expanding to new territories with more planed events then ever sighted for 2012. UFC doesn't discuss fighters salaries too much but there is a video of Lorenzo talking about fighters currently making 10 million plus every year not including sponsors. You can find it on my favorites, also since 2006 they have made over 40 fighters millionaires.

Boxing puts on events every 3 months or so and the UFC every 2 weeks. So yeah, Dana White is giving back to the sport, that's us the fans. It's not a privilege to be a fighter it's an obligation. If you love fighting or whatever it is you're passionate about, you should be doing it for free but yes people need to make a living. Athletes shouldn't be paid millions of dollars because it kills their love for the sport.

Undercard fighters in the UFC get paid 6000 to fight and 6000 to win, if you fight 4 times a year that's 48000 a year. Not including bonuses and sponsors, plus as you have more fights and you start winning you get paid even more, maybe 10000 to fight and 10000 to win.

Fighters have an audit clause in their contract which allows them to go in with a team of accountants to view all the money made by an event. Zuffa never disclose a fighters salary to the public but that doesn't mean they aren't making good money. They have made about 40 fighters millionaires in the last 6 years.

If a fighter in the UFC wins his first 3 fights he will get around 40k minus the 4k to his manager and minus the 10-15k for his training and traveling and with taxes he is likely making 10/hr in U$D.

Think of it as a bonus for showing up to work for a day on top of your normal salary. On top of all that there is PPV generated revenue paid out to the main event & sometimes co-main event fighters. Three side bonus's to win on the night including KO; submission & fight of the night. Fighters also make sponsorship money as does the UFC from it's own sponsors ect.

Bob has a good point about Dana paying much less. However, there are some other factors to consider. Big money isn't making boxers make fights. Paqman and Mayweather would have already fought if they were UFC fighters. The stalling and avoiding big fights is a problem for boxing that turns off many fans. Also, UFC fighters owe much to the UFC and it's smart management which grows the sport. It can't be said that boxers owe much to their organizations because they keep embarrassing.

The UFC pays their top fighters. GSP/Anderson Silva/Lesnar all make millions a year. Bones will make over 2 million this year. Not bad for a guy who unknown two years ago. If Zuffa owned all of MMA including Dream; KOTC; Bellator; M-1 Global; Shark Fights; UCMMA; Deep; Shooto; Jungle Fight & many others then it would be a monopoly. Buying premier fighters allows a powerhouse promotional company to put on the fights fans want to see, bringing better attention to it's sport & athletes.

He claims UFC fighters "make nothing", yet compared to boxing he doesn't consider a) the amount of fights that each UFC event offers, b) how many events there are per month (let alone per year), c) how many fights are live on free TV, and d) how many different parts of the world they have their events. All of this costs money and sacrificing greed.

@UFOXERT first the ufc does not take a cut from the fighters sponsors. their manager does. the ufc has their own sponsors. and second of all ufc is not as big as the other major sports out there today no where near it.

@mmaandrew13 spot on. The problem with getting a HUGE purse for a fight is that it often distracts a person. For example Ffloyd Mayweather, he makes millions off 1 fight but he does fuck all fighting, he splashes his money round and demands a larger purse than his opponents. Give a fighter £30,000 for a fight and he'l make a good wage and still fight his fucking heart out. Dana has got the balance right. Not too much to distract the fighter but enough to give him a brilliant wage.

Living, bills. 40k is nothing, getting your ass handed to you would mean you would be suspended by the commission meaning you can't make money for another year. Plus, 40k is for top fighters, most prelim fighters are on about 10k and could be out for the whole year
