  • i'm in love

  • I always get to the party too late..

  • If I could meet someone in a bar and listen to thier music and then drink to the fun hours it would be with a fella like yourself. I'd like it to be a pub, in the Irish country side close to some open roads where you can walk and think, and still carry your beer.

  • I've played in many sessions like the one you describe.. halcyon days gone and to come.... peace

  • Lovely version

  • thanks for listening..

  • This song always took me far, far away and leaves me there for some time.

Life should be as intense, as pure and as deeply true as some songs are

  • Thankl you for those thoughtful words.. songs should elavate and inspire.. Mike

  • i really like me this version. is so beautiful.

    greetings

  • Thank you for dropping by..

  • That was the most beautiful version of this song that I have ever heard! Thank you for posting this video, it brought me to tears thinking of my brother who died young. Thank you, Kathryn, for the verse about watching over his son, my brother left two sons. I'm going to learn this song.

  • Thanks for posting such a personal, albeit sad note. I hope the song is going well. Regards Mike

  • I'll sew my love a shroud of yarn so fine, every stitich I put in it a tear comes trickling down; once I had a love, but now there's not a one; but I'll watch o'er his son as he's growing.

  • 'Twas on a summer morning at the dawning of the day, they went into the orchard to have some sport and play; and just what they did there she never would declare, but she never more complained of his growing. (!) Notice it's in third person unlike other verses, perhaps added as some juncture by other musicians.

  • I can't believe there's only one comment one here. I've performed this one for many years at RenFests etc. Love your version. Two more verses you may like follow. One was a bawdy verse removed in Victorian era. Other is rare.

  • Hi Kathryn. Thanks for the other two verses. I have not heard of these before. Yes the third person song reads as a fairly recent addition whilst the 'shroud of yarn' sounds perfectly authentic. Thanks for the comments and notes. Very much appreciated. Mike.

  • You look really familiar to me. Have you lived in Georgia or Arizona, or worked at any RenFests there?

  • How did you know my name is Kathryn? You must know me, like I said you look very familiar. Where from?? You've blown my cover !! (just kidding).

  • That is a lovely version you played there. I really love this song. I must say my favorite version is the one from the live BBC concert. The flute and violin go so well with this song. Nice to see people playing this trad songs and keep them very much alive. tx

  • Hi Daniel. (I'm playing catch up!!) I can't believe I didn't get around to replying.. Thanks for your notes. Tradition has a root that comes from the heart and of shared values. Regards. Mike
