In the late 60's I served aboard a Sumner Class Destroyer. The same size as a Fletcher Class. Carrier crewmen refered to these destroyers as surface submarines.
This is Wonderful!!! My father who is 96 years old at the present served on the Picking... I showed him this and he smiled from ear to ear!!! I wish there were more of the USS Picing videos...
Yep, it didn't take much for those little DD's to take on water. Thank God I was on the DDG-13 which by then had hurricane bows to help out with the waves.
1964 aboard the Oriskany. That was my second Westpac deployment aboard her, and the first tour of duty aboard the Big O.
