I read in a book sometime ago that Capoiera is not about in-you-face fighting. It's about using your outsmarting your opponent in any number of ways. Everything goes, and if the other guy bites it, it was his fault not expecting it. Sorry if this is wrong or anything, book was ages ago.
The movie this scene is from is a Thai move, Ong Bak 2, it overall has got some excellent fight scene's this one is particularly good, worth hiring from your local video shop if they've got it
@fergalpf its actually from the movie the protector which is an awesome action movie but the storyline is pretty dumb. ong bak and ong bak 2 are also damn good movies. tony jaa brings back the jackie chan style movies by doing his own stunts and adding in some sweet martial arts scenes
capoeira is a martial art that was created in brazil,
actually, capoeira isn't a fighting style like muay thai. The capoeira it's like a mix of dancing and aerial moves. But many people her in brazil uses capoeira to fight, wich is not so effective as muay thai and other fights, this fight it's a fake, none of this happens in a trully capoeira fight.
Here's a fact for you. Breakdancing didn't appear in the United States till AFTER the first Mestre(master) brought it to New York City. Capoeira is a 500 year old martial art used by slaves in Brazil, breakdancing is a 30year old art form ;-)
this was very boring (execuse me) this was a show."oow the big bad master kicks the good guys ass then the good boy beat him"capoera is not so effective.they defense equals with the zero.and the attacks?just with leg?come on!
The defense in a tradational Capoeira game is called a Esquivar which means dodge, rarely do you see blocking but there is blocking. There are grappling techniques as well but none are really seen in this movie. Oh and with the just legs, thats a lie. Capoeira does use legs as a primary attack but that isnt the only attacks, there are hand attacks as well but you would rarely see it in youtube videos for reasons that hand attacks would open a deadlier game...
there is no way to fight using it´s tecniques against any one that can fight, may be beautiful to watch, but useless in a real combat situation, it has been modified from it´s original purpuse, and that is, african slaves defend their selves against white folks or each other... but, still, everything depends on who practices, or how hard is the practice!
i see the point you are trying to make :P but i think you are wrong, it is true most people who practice capoeira nowadays mostly use it for more purposes than just fighting, but true capoeira is just as much a martial arts as any other style and very effective :P
Lol, man, the fact you are defending such a weak martial art shows just how little you know about true warrior arts. Look up the Bujinkan and learn something. Fool.
ehm wtf??? my mom owns a video club and this movie didn't come with the title "The Protector" but with the title "Warrior King"... whatever great movie though :D
While he is the Muay Thai fighter, IRL and in Ong-bak this movie is not all muay thai but a form of it that him and his master developed called muaykodchasarn translated to Elephant Boxing, and was made specifically for the film. He even said this in interviews
Name the movie is: The Protector ( Tony Jaa ), second movie is Ong Bak ( Tony Jaa too ). Tony Jaa have two movies. Tony Jaa is the best Muay Thai fighter in the world on movies.
The first part of this movie is called "Ong Bak" or "onk Bak" I aint really know right now. And this scene is taken from the second movie but the titel of this movie i don*t know.

Oh, pardon me, great Arasethius, every movie that has the same actor has another is automaticly a sequel to whatever movie the actor made first, thanks for correcting me and my stupid mind, so, tell me, how come "Judge dread" isn't called "Rocky -"?
Tony Jaa is a good Action actor, but what he shows off in his movies isn't real Muay Thai, or at least, it's about half Muay Thai and then the rest is kung fu/acrobatics stuff. You watch a real Muay Thai fight, they use short, simple strikes, elbows, knees, punchs, etc, none of that fancy fly kick shit.
