This is astonishing! Who would have thought such a dream team could come about? Except - Walsh doesn't really fit in. I know he contributed a little to Carl Palmer's side of ELP Works, but he still doesn't fit in IMO.
@wardka I think Joe showed what a true pro should do in a group like that. Let others shine when it's their time. He held back with the exception of a quick few tasty riffs. Look at Rocky Mountain Way from the same concert. He fits right in. What an incredible lineup!
@Nivekrst Well, that's a good point. This one piece is taken out of context. I might have said he was too close to Americana for this ELP work, but that would be just silly too. It's a 100% American composition. I'll have to look for the rest of this show.
@wardka I knew what you meant with the comment, I just had to jib as I'm quite the Walsh fan. He appears pretty wasted at this show. But the overall all show highlighted hits from all involved and I thought Joe, minus the outfit, laid back nicely, something many "rockstars" would not be able to do.
Awesome lineup even if they did play this classic song WAY too fast...and the Korg covering for the GX1?? .. My Roland JP8000 is a closer match as far as sound quality goes.Still, this is nothing less than an EPIC performance! Emerson is always amazing to listen to as well as watch perform.
This could be one of the greatest line ups ever assembled on stage. I've heard about this tour for many years, but this is the first I've seen of the footage. It's great stuff!
Why do some people make an effort to make snyde, complicated assessments of artists? They didn't miss any points. They did what they WANTED to do. WHo gives a rats ass what someone else intended. It's good music by great artists...'nuff said!
It's all good - just like the English rockers rescued the Blues from the garbage dump of history and made many, who otherwise would never had known, aware of the Afro-American masters of that great music, this rendition of ELP brought many to hear Copeland. It's all for the best.
To be clear, I am in no way discrediting the musicianship on this stage. That said, in order to understand the depth of Copland's statement, the piece must be listened to in its original format and as it is presented in his Third Symphony. In both cases, the NATURAL partial writing in the brass is important to the program. You are not qualified to comment on the piece until you understand that. ELP have rocked a lot of things, but this is not one of them. THEY HAVE MISSED THE POINT ENTIRELY!
I don't agree. I think this is better than the original.Aron Copeland wrote the original composition. Emerson,Lake and Palmer rocked it,but were not the originators.
Lake I really like your work but Emerson+Entwistle (rip) is pure demolition! God, how I like this version, it has the energy than the original lacks a bit in my opinion. Thanks for share this!
Ooh! I tremble thinking about else he can do with those fingers!!

Songs mature in time, and this is a proof of it. Each version has its own. This one I must say is the best one I've heard, pure energy.
Keith is in fact one of the best keyboardists ever.
