jajajajjajajjajajajjajaajjajajajjajajajajjajajajajjaaajaajjajaaaajjaja this is the most funny scenes!!!!!! PAAAFF PAFFFFF!!!... Whoooooooooooo's that guy!!!!???
Saw this movie last night for the first time. i wanted to change the channel so many times but i just couldn't. this movie was so bad...it got hilarious about 6 hours into it. or at least it seemed like 6 hours.
That was a tactic NY city cops would use when questioning people. If that kid told people what happened, that the cops had a giant black dude wearing only a jock strap, leather boots and a cowboy hat come in and punch him, no one would beleive him. This was the 70's, you think new york pork gets away with murder now
On the audio commentary for the upcoming September 18th DVD release of 'Cruising', director, William Friedkin states that the silent character was apparently based on a real person that NYPD used to elicit criminal confessions. Cops figured that if perpetrators protested that their confession had been coerced by a jockstrapped black cowboy, nobody would believe it.
No, he hasn't "joined the other team." He went psycho chasing a psycho and now he is the psycho killer. It has nothing to do with his "sexuality." Its like if Clariee became Hannibal Lechter. Just a psycho murder thriller that has gay characters, gay sex, gay settings... But if it were set in straight clubs, you wouldn't even think about it in terms of sexuality, would you.
Yes, I agree. Wihtout giving away any SPOLIERS, there is a point in the film where you start to suspect that Pacino's undercover role is starting to affect him and he is beginning to enjoy the gay lifestyle.
Yes, I agree. Wihtout giving away any SPOILERS, there is a point in the film where you start to suspect that Pacino's undercover role is starting to affect him and he is beginning to enjoy the gay lifestyle.
I think he just got in touch with his feminine side. After all most men have to live up to a hegomonic mascunline standard, which al pacino after scarface seemed to carve a deep niche into...In this film, i think yes, he released the old mindset, and attempted to get in touch with his feminine side..im not completely convinced he achieved this, regardless im sure it enlightened him.
uh.... didn't he do Tootsie? Oh, no that was Dustin Hoffman. I wonder if they ever slept together? After being in the Air Force a few years and traveling around the world, my brother-in-law apologized for earlier situations between us and has been great.... also, there were GAY pilots in his flight squadron and had gone to war together - everyone knew and no one cared! Love that!
If I need to have Pacino to get in touch of anything or whatever, I would pop in "Dog Day Afternoon". The sames esational premises, but not as exploitative as this mess. That's why Sidney Lumet is a better and more conscientious (socially responsible) director than Friedkin.
Nothing is wrong with that, and you are right about the clues and hints; but for me, being one of "them," its difficult to comprehend someone switching sides - that's quite a metamorphoses to switch from straight to gay AND cop to serial killer in just a few sweaty disco nights.... lol. Could be he made the switch, but if he really did "switch" then why kill? Or he became the killer with all of the phobias and self-hatred attached..... I only want to think about nice things. lol. kidding.
It makes him a good actor that seriously prepared for his role. Saturating himself in the gay culture in attempt to mimmick gayness for his film role. Perfect idea really.... Thats what I would do, if i was in a film about monkeys, i would hang in the jungle for a while..
'Cruising' was very controversial when it was released in 1980. Many in the gay community protested the storyline, a serial killer murdering homosexuals in New York City. This is probably why Warner Home Video has delayed the films release on DVD. Definitely not one of Al Pacino's best, but still an interesting 80's film oddity.
Love the clip Sista Sofija, but I wish you would have included the entire scene, especially when Pacino gets his revenge by tossing the naked cowboy's hat out the window.
HYSTERICAL !!! I'm convinced that the NYPD has a huge african american male wearing a jock strap in every police department, waitng to 'bitch slap' confessions out of suspects.
You can go there on Google Earth.... or look up video on YouTube... when in Rio, overlooking the natural beauty from the Cristo Redentor statue on the mountain, I.... okay, I cried.... I was surprised, but I couldn't believe what my eyes were seeing.... such incredible natural beauty (landscape and the men. LOL). God is a FABULOUS decorator.

you make a good point but I think there are other clues in the film that suggest he is very interested in the men and what is wrong with that?

I agree. 'Dog Day Afternoon' is one of Pacino's best. 'Serpico' (1973) was another excellent collaboration with Sidney Lumet.

Still based on the theory that homosexuaity is contagious. William Friedkin is a naive/ignorant sociopath for this one.
