  • Wow, this is actually the best I've seen yet. We have students who don't dare even try the butterfly stick. Thanks for posting.

  • "turniket"? isn't it pronounce tornikaaaay?

  • For a student, I thought she did great. I'm a current phlebotomy student and they are teaching us not to let go of the butterfly.

  • Oh and by the way: if u read my first post, I was being sarcastic! But noone would know that right!

  • Me being in medical school has nothing to do ith the way I talk outside of my work place, besides if u see al these comments you'll see my point that eveyone is so negative! The upload vids to get feed back but some of these comments are just mean you know and if their in school to learn than you can't expect perfection! So idk........ just saying!

  • cleansing the area wrong!!!

  • @sskatygirl I agree, she did just fine. I am a phlebotomist and work with this stuff on a daily basis. Like anything else, drawing blood is something you get better at with time. As for the butterfly needle being hands-free, as someone said, yeah, they are, but not always. Sometimes they need to be held in place in order to help the blood flow smoothly. The slightest movement can move the needle out of place or out of the skin all together. They are not always easy to work with.

  • For everyone being super critical about her technique: you do realize this a student in a class, right? The finesse with handling the tube and collection comes after experience. She did a lot better than most of the MAs and nurses I've had. I know it's easy to be a jerk on the internet, but there's no need for it here.

  • @sskatygirl i agree!!! at least the person is not doing this at there home where there is no teachers around like some of these other videos i have seen

  • Dislike.

  • ... why didn't she let go of the butterfly while she was taking the blood?? They're a hands-free needlle ... DURRR

  • Some people have zero class. You can still be trash AND attend medical school. Really articulate people...hope you never take care of me or my family.

  • First of all, let me just say that the two people arguing sound really immature and quite unprofessional. If one of you is really in medical school then why do you act in such a way? The health care field is not a field that you would say "fuck you" to another person. If I heard my doctor talking that way then I wouldn't feel too comfortable with him or her being my doctor. Just saying. You two sound childish.

  • People, you know if you are actually in med school or not, so why brag about it and act like an ass?

  • First class! First class all the way! This is one compassionate medical assistant. I hope the clinic or hospital she works for has given her a 50% raise. I hope they haven't done anything stupid that would cause her to leave. If that happened, I'll bet there would be a lot of sad, sad patients at that institution.

  • My goodness, you people act like you were fucking pros as students. Don't you realize that this is the reason why they have these courses? To practice and do better. Don't act like all of you did perfectly when you were still training.

  • Comment removed

  • as far as i could remember...we only insert about 25% of the needle >.> not the whole thing -chills-

  • I LOVE THE WAY EVERYONE HAS SOMETHING NEGATIVE TO SAY...... IT JUST SHOWS HOW F* UP YOU ALL ARE, THATS THE WHOLE REASON THEYRE IN MEDICAL SCHOOL TO LEARN.....

  • @pinky1sx3 idiot. Here technique was amazing but it doesnt give you the right to just go ahead and fuck off everyones opinion. Sorry, but if your in medical school like me, YOU WILL FUCKING FAIL LIKE SHIIITTTT

  • @10Pranks well i didnt fuck off everyones opinion i just said they were fucked up b.cuz shes in school to learn shes not a pro yet everyone has something negative to say, and yes i am in medical school and FYI i pass all my classes with an A+ and 4.0 gpa so please feel free to kiss my ass, while your drawing blood at a lil clinic im gonna be saving lives at a hospital you dip shit!

  • @pinky1sx3 Liar. How can you be in med school when your fucking off everyone's technique? I mean, WTF? Get a life. My parents are nurses and they work their ASSES off when you are probably sitting in front of your cpu ALL DAY like a fat ass fuck! Life Hint: Learn how to engage with people nicley. You wont stay in that "hospital" a fucking day with all of your negativity jackass. You will get your ass sent to HR if you are really like this in the nursing industry. PS: FUCK YOU!

  • @10Pranks once again everyone is entitled to their opinion all i said is that everyone here is so negative, and please congratulate your parents on being nurses, even thought the fact that they are nurses has nothing to do with any of this, im not negative read your comments you started, and let it be known that neither your comments toward me, or anything else you post really matters to me, i was just posting my opinion as you were posting yours. BTW: FUCK YOU TOO!!

  • @pinky1sx3 childish and silly. if you guys are really medical students then act like it . VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!! arguing about a procedure IS THIS WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO DO IN A MEDICAL FACILITY WHILE SOMEONE IS INEED OF HELP????? UGH!!! horrible and awful ):

  • @pinky1sx3 IMMATURE ASSES!!!! ARGUING AND BEING UNPROFESSIONAL

  • wow not good @ all! she even appeared unsure of herself to even do a correct drawing...u can tell!

  • I do this everyday...better than her...

  • I'm a full-time phlebotomist who works alone every day, as well in conjunction with a team of other phlebotomists, and here's my two cents: She did just fine. Yes, locating a vein while ungloved and before equipment preperation is acceptable - bare hands are more sensitive and can find veins easier, which will help you to know what equpiment to prepare. No, there is not a standardized way to hold a butterfly. She did need to clean longer - alcohol is a weak antiseptic agent. It wasn't that bad.

  • Whenever you do this for a small child, put the lancet on their finger. Ouch.

  • Number 1 why did she even bother looking for the vein if she didn't even have her gloves on and supplies ready?

  • why is ur biohazard in the mayo stand that nasty n ur contaminated the site ur nasty.. against OSHA

  • @1gabelbc Why is your grammar so bad? You sound mentally challenged.

  • while ur putting ur gloves on the site is all contaminated again!! and yes dear U R SUPPOSE TO HOLD THE NEEDLE even if its a butterfly..

  • Omg she went in SOOOOO deep !!!! she cant go in so far she might pass through the vein and cause damage.

  • you have to hold a butterlgy

  • i have to get this every month

  • aw man I'm getting this done tomorrow O_O I hate needles D:

  • Bad technique. Cleaning before tourniquet application? Single swipe? Holding butterfly? Fumbling with tube and hub. Removing tourniquet while holding hub/tube? Was there a safety device on this butterfly. A stick waiting to happen.....:-( BD makes a sweet retractable needle butterfly. We use it at LCA.

  • Wow there are a LOT of things wrong with this: single swipe alcohol swab, removing tourniquet with hand still holding tubing and vacuum tube, gloves to big.

The purpose of the butterfly is to FREE the hand, hence why the wings are there to keep the needle stable, there was no need for her to keep holding them...unless the angle was off which it was not. Then she let the tubing fall, pulling on the needle, geesh!

  • class starts tomorrow i cant wait i think this is fun

  • I'm pretty nervous too, class starts in a week. Was it difficult to learn?

  • i'd rather do it myself.... haha

  • I am so nervous, I start classes on monday in back office where I go to school at

  • she put the butterfly needle in waaaay too slow--that must've hurt....

  • First of all, those gloves were way too large. For the best dexterity, gloves should FIT. Cleaning the site was incomplete...should be from center of the site in concentric circles to outside of site...just to name a couple of problems with this video....

  • wow after watching it the second time, she is REALLY ANNOYING. I would have asked for a different person to draw my blood, Im surprised she didnt tell the patient to inhale and exhale also......

  • did she clean the site first ?

  • yes but it was the single swipe method, not really recommended but allowed by osha

  • Phlebotomist was way to slow. Talking to patient as if she were a child. Didn't need to explain EVERY thing she was doing. Tourniquet seemed way to tight. Then she released the tourniquet with the hand that was holding collection tube. WRONG!!!

  • she did good until she released the tourniquet while holding the collection tube in the same hand. Overall it was good.

  • no the needle to me looks like a dragonfly

  • She used a pink one? I want that one!

  • too slow

  • actually, that was a nice job. Congrats!

  • she does not react at all to the needle.

  • I had to get it done. I think the tourniquet was green.

  • nice job
