North Star.. damn.. as a teen I used to recline on couch, slowly exhaling the indian bidi fume to this.. reciting "I'm elevatin strong.." under my breath.
I met kwon about 3 weeks ago and I showed him that in my 20 years of living I've only ever purchased one album and it was this one...he saluted me allowing me to recognize how much appreciated such as simple gesture... Never have i held so much respect for an artist...north star makes me reflect on my life every time hear it...its a feeling I cant and probably never will be able to explain similar to the feeling I get when I hear second coming by tekitha...peace to the gods
It's crazy! when I was 17 in "96", me and my crew F.O, was turnt out by Rae...I was young son! from Washington D.C. living in Northern Cali, with a baby coming, on the run, plus running my own strip on 162nd ave in the Edendales in San, Leandron, Ca. Dang Rae, you raise up some kings who were teens when you came out! -Royal T F.M.E
Any soul singin from Dirty.......he got it from Poppa Wu.....Straight OG. I honestly don't know if it's Dirty or Poppa Wu but there's this dope documentary that broke my fuckin heart when they were talkin about how much of a genuinely good dude Ol' D.B was and I crumbled when Poppa Wu burst into tears. We miss u, Rusty.
I know the lyrics on every song and skit on that album. I used to listen to it everydamn day for 3 years. I've watch every possible interview of raekwon talking about that album and it's poppa wu singing in the background. And what a beautiful way to end an album. It makes you want to go back to the first track and listen to it again. To me this is one of the best hip hop album in history on hip hop. I am a true fan of raekwon
Why is everyone saying ODB singing voice beutiful etc etc!?!?! I have no doubt in my mind that it is NOT O.D.B singing on that track! Its popa Wu! Sounds nothing like O.D.B... BUT it does sound like popa wu, and who's credited on the track?!?! Popa Wu.. NOT O.D.B
@cubanlinx95 Ive read that interview..... and Rae's memory of the whole thing is hazy at best. It was the interviewer that mentioned O.D.B being on the track. Rae didnt bring it up, but he went along with what was said so not to seem stupid.
@McGinnsey If your talking about the wax poetics interview, Rae had no problem remembering who was singing on the track, and how would you know he "went along with what was said so not to seem stupid"? your not Rae. But I can understand why people would think its Popa Wu singing, but I'm sure it's ODB.
This album will always be one of greatest classico n that last song on north star is 1 of the greatest outro ever... I can't wait go rock the bell in n.y. in 2011....
one of the only sons that could possible make me shed a tear. just the whole vibe: strings, odb singing, popa wu dropping knowledge, rae killing it. dang! what an outro

@factsoutofbirds I think its about when raekwon was put in charge of his own corner in a crazy part of the city. His corner got shot up because they were undercutting prices and they went to war.
@96Z24 because the original name of sampled song is "Mellow Mood I" and it's just a straightforward loop. cd credits are misleading. of course i love it. but it's not flipped at all :o)
this shit goes hard. it would be hot if someone added return of the northstar at the end of the track, like a pick up where you left off kind of thing.
My favorite Wu tang joint! I believe the RZA sampled a portion of the literal ol' school anime "The Fist of the North Star." Which happens to be my favorite Anime ever.
I mean Seriously, Can Anyone From The "Young Money" Era Can Make anything even remotely close to this, the only person mot in the "Young Money" Era that came close was the dude Z-Ro.
