English people have nothing to be ashamed about when it comes to their history. If others can't get over the past then leave them stuck there. The difference is that the influence from Black America in the 60's was a positive one. Hip Hop is a sub culture of black culture and it is the negative parts of that sub culture that are influencing our youth. How is calling a woman a bitch or a hoe positive? How is boasting about how much material wealth you have postive? How is saying the N word over and over postive?

Music is part of culture, it influences culture and in turn is influenced by culture.Culture teaches us how we should look at the world, ourselves and others. Its how we learn to treat ourselves and others. If the culture is criminal, then its going to have a criminal influence. That fact that we are seeing crime, specifically gun crime on a level never seen before has everything to do with the influence of a criminal culture.

Because I raise him with love and sensible discipline in a relatively secure environment. Now he's an Emo - and I can promise you he won't be self harming. There are reasons for gun crime of course. But crap records aren't one of them.

Sean, I never said ban hip hop, I said that there is a negative element in hip hop that is part of and celebrates a criminal culture. It is that negative element that is given the most media time. Unfortunately there are many kids who don't have dads, and many whose parents let the TV raise their kids. Rappers like Snoop Dog used to be a pimp, Tupac and 50 were crack dealers, and guns are part of that lifestyle. They celebrate that fact and that lifestyle, hardly positive role models for kids.
