@TheDepotCat Didn't they have to translate some of the dialogue in The Sweeney for the Yanks..?? Here's got to be the best car chase in any Sweeney episode>>> watch?v=iFeJAe4f9g0
I bet the Americans did think that CI5 existed! Had a mate come from America and he wanted to go to Scotland, I asked him what he wants to see and with a straight face he said " new Scotland yard"
Heavens, I LOVED that trailer and--since we've already been into the fandom back then--were beyond happy to finally get 'em on pay tv (made our father pay, lol). One of the best shows ever and even if it was highly acclaimed I still think it was underrated in the US. Not every US citizen seems to be interested in European business, however, but that's life.
I used to wacth the professionals a lot when i was a kid. Now i sometimes wacth it on itv 4. And i think it was a great series. There was one episode i can remember when i was a kid. And i have not seen it agian on repeat. When doyle punched bodie what was name of that episode?
I had this trailer with my old edition of series 1. I like it. Takes out all the best action-packed clips from episodes like Female Factor, Takeaway, Weekend In The Country and Hiding To Nothing.
Pic quality's nice, too, kinda like the eps Where The Jungle Ends and Mixed Doubles. 8)
Finland has joined in too... cheesy trailer indeed, but entertaining and it's a great thing that Mr Cowley also gets due recognition here... Thanks for sharing!
I love the professionals though it was really... utter bollocks. The comedy was atrocious and the pauses between character interaction were SO long and like Scooby Doo, nothing made any sense by the end of the episodes.
I've only seen four eps of this series: "Operation: Susie," "Joe Public(?)," the one with David Suchet as mercenary terrorist Enrique Krivas and the ep with an appearance by the luscious Pamela Salem as a high-class hooker who was an informant for Doyle during his "supercop" days!
Great show! I'd love to hunt down more eps but I don't have cable or satellite TV!
I caught a couple of episodes on one of the freeview channels but could never remember when it was on, so I bought the dvds from amazon. Well worth the money. :D
Canned after one season? Maybe in the US, but in the UK it ran for several seasons. There again you obviously couldn't grasp it if it had run longer in the US!
ventured from Lands End to John O'Groats and from Cornwall to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and beloved places in between (Haltwhistle and Northerners forever! God love Scouses! Wolves!
If it is, it's odd that they didn't intro it with something obvious like "From the creators of 'The Avengers' comes a tough cop show that was on before tough cop shows like 'Law & Order' and 'CSI' dominated the airwaves! It would be true but it's still a missed opportunity for more cheesiness!
In 1993 I stayed up every night until 2am to videotape every episode... the videos are long dead but were often watched. My first car was a Ford Escort! The series was never equalled, and came from the REAL age of the 'war on terror'.
"Its like the FBI, CIA and Interpol all rolled into one" I cringe at the American voice-over guy having to spell it out for the benefit of the yank audience.....
Just love this programme; its a wonderful excuse to wallow in nostalgia. The men, the cars, the era. ITV are now repeating the series on Monday, Tuesday and Friday at 9pm. Best thing on my box!
greetings from Turkish capital, Ankara. I'm a Professionals CI5 fan. Everytime I watch the episodes I feel as if I'm watching it for the first time. never getting old for me.
Manchester United play "The Professionals" in breaks from training. Ronaldo is Doyle, Rooney is Bodie, and Alex Ferguson is Cowley. Rooney and Ronaldo run around pretending to kick doors open and shoot people, while Fergie pours a malt scotch and shouts at them. Then they get in their Porsches and thrash the gearbox while talking into football boots held up to their faces like walkie talkies.
this has been shown in the uk in the last couple of months, the trained to kill and be killed was in reference to Colonel Dawson in "Dawsons Last Stand"
wonder if it showed here? i moved here in 93 and no one i know has ever heard of it. Wish they would re run it here on at least one channel. God knows we have enough of them

How come the pic quality of the clips on the trailer is so much better than the DVD's?

Then again, you people like beans for breakfast - that says a lot about Britain without a word being uttered.
hasablad69 4 years ago
LOL Hilarious!
greeneyedcrow8 4 years ago 2
The best breakfast that I ever had during my travels through Great Britain was at The
Feathers Hotel in fabulous Liverpool; the buffet had absolutely everything in abundance
and the quality was outstanding (meaning that
there was very little grease). The worst
breakfast ever, and not only in just Britain
but North America and Europe as well, was
surprisingly in Penzance, along the beautiful
Cornish coast; even the croutons were drowned
in grease - thereafter, I stuck to the cold
cereal.

I don't blame you, I would have too!

What does eating beans for breakfast say exactly? An American is in a position to critique on diet??
Mikez4 3 years ago
It says that you are collectively full of gas;
and that comes from a true Canadian who has
ventured from Lands End to John O'Groats and from Cornwall to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and beloved places in between (Haltwhistle and Northerners forever! God love Scouses! Wolves!

I was wondering if this was in fact a promo intended for television executives rather than the general public.
Or am I just making excuses for it being so very lame. :-)

It does seem rather too long to be a television trailer I think it probably is a sales tool for US sales.
