It's not like once Slash left Axl though to himself "Let's just hire a bunch of musical know-nothings" you dumbass. They might not appeal to you like Slash does, but every guitarist in Guns N' Roses since has been totally awesome. ESPECIALLY Buckethead.

@LtSykes i agree those guitarists might have been amazing, but mostly its about the ambience and the personality that each band member carries. No one does what Slash does. Its the magic THOSE people create which we love. No one else could have written SCOM, just like no one except Kirk Hammett could have written Enter Sandman. Its easy covering solos and riffs, but every guitarist has their way which contributes to a sound of a band, and Slash helped form the classic GNR sound.
