  • Absolutamente Genial Video ,Mil Gracias Por Subirlo

  • I don't think this was meant to be as controversial as i've seen it become. I've always felt that this song is about a man struggling with his faith. He sees things that can't be explained by a just and loving god. So its about a crisis of faith. I try not to bring any specific dogma to this song. Any religious follower of any religion can be faced with this crisis. Hell even someone who puts their faith in something other than a traditional religion can face this.

  • @karenishra I think that's pretty controversial as you described it. Here is a bloke "struggling with his faith" against things "that can't be explained by a just and loving god". That's pretty funamental.

To all the people I've argued with before, we are nothing special. We are highly developed apes and we deserve no greater recognition. We are not Children of God. We have no soul, and when we die, we just die. God is a human construct.

  • ah fuck that sound at the start destroyed my ears

  • A DM classic, love this song. Martin is a brilliant songwriter and Dave is a brilliant chanteur. A match made in heaven. (and yes, there is one!)

  • i can be very very very mean

  • coney es bueno zapatos

  • hi hun

  • love to see god laughing when i die

  • Wow! What a wonderful video to a truly amazing song.

  • people are sick...God is perfect

  • excelente

  • BTW, that mofo had plenty of time to stop, 500 ft at least? What was he goin... 45? He WANTED to hit her, can see the smile on his face

  • I love this song, it is so dark, but the samples, so beautiful... whenever I hear a mix of this at a party, I remember, I am so happy

  • Was this a double A side with "Somebody"

  • I can't even BEGIN to express my love for this song.

If we accept the reality of a supreme being we also have to accept that such a being is disproportionately cruel with regards to our situation here on Earth. We suffer and die in massive numbers; we inflict horrible cruelties upon one another and are victims of the most ridiculous accidents. And yet - there's someone in charge of this chaotic mismanagement? There is a serious need for a judicial review. Apologies to those who take it seriously

  • @sadisticon Disproportionately cruel or callously indifferent at best, showing about the same care, concern and compassion as we might for a random colony of ants somewhere in the world.

  • @sadisticon it's a test. Whoever heard of a test where everything is easy? (God let his own son die to show us the way). I'm a Christian and I've always loved this song. We can criticize our God because we believe in him. Do atheists ever doubt themselves? Even Bono wrote 'Wake up dead man'. Doesn't mean he doesn't believe. This song isn't about religion vs atheism anyway. It's about how twisted and ironic life can be.

  • @eamonreillydotcom

I am not an atheist or a theist

    I live

  • @VicariousReality7 funny that. Cos I live too and I'll live on when this temporary and all too short life is all over.

  • @eamonreillydotcom

    ''Thanks to denial, i'm immortal!''

  • @VicariousReality7 whatever. you won't convince me. i won't convince you. I'm glad to think that there's an afterlife and some meaning to all this, you're glad to think that we don't matter and there's nothing else. You're taking the "cool" and safe opinion in the present day and I'm "uncool" with my opinion but i really don't care about all that bs as much as you obviously do.

  • @eamonreillydotcom

    But we do matter

We do not stop existing when we die

    You are illogical

  • @VicariousReality7 sure, whatever....

  • @VicariousReality7 : According to whom? Please show reference to evidence of that.

  • @Kojak0

    To what?

Do you really want me to prove that there is nothing more than you?

  • @VicariousReality7 As a matter of fact yes. As I see it, the only way we can live on after we die is through the memory other people have of us, but we still don't live on. .

I am sure you have another opinion. But I was asking for facts.

  • @sadisticon

I can't help but disagree with your assessment of God as somehow cruel. In the words of David Bowie in Labyrinth, "I wonder what your basis for comparison is."

"We suffer and die in massive numbers," We suffer and die in total numbers. We're mortals. This isn't cruel, it's fact. "We inflict horrible cruelties upon one another," that describes OUR behavior.

I've always found this view of God overly pessimistic and somewhat naive, to assume we somehow deserve better.

  • @sadisticon

Moreover, I think it's an example of our spoiled victimization of ourselves as individuals. We're so quick to completely negate all the good we experience in the face of bad. For instance, if any of us were to walk down a street in a new town, be greeted with smiles by 5 people, but be spit on and cursed by the 6th, we'd likely walk away thinking the town was a horrible place where people spit on each other. It tends to be the negative we carry with ourselves, and since

  • @sadisticon

we're all the hero of our own story, we count it as a horrible injustice that outweighs the smiles and hellos of others. As good people we should never stub our toe, fall ill, or die. This simply isn't the case.

If people don't want to believe in a god, that's fine. There are tons of reasons why not. I just have never been able to get behind the idea that, there's no god because if there were, this being would have to coddle us. I disagree. And I don't find it cruel...

  • @sadisticon

because there isn't a basis for comparison. There is no world but this one and what we choose to make of it. Being aware of our place in this world doesn't make us somehow exempt from the trials of life upon it. So why complain and blame anyone for cruelty? Just my opinion.

    Also, I love this song.

  • A very heartwarming video. Thanks for uploading.

  • Thanks to my friends I made it through national service in the south African army in the 80's This was one of the songs that always played in our bungalow in Ladysmith.....Thanks for getting me through it all guys. Arvey,Thomas,Patrick,Neil and all my other friends

  • Siempre me ha encantado esta canción y el video es una pasada. Gracias por el pase Trubies :)) Depeche siempre es 555555555* al cubo

  • A relationship with God in no way requires religion. Organized religion turns as many people off as on. There are so many false teachings that are really nothing more than deception in the name of religion designed to turn us off. When people learn to trust God's laws written on their own hearts the deception has lost. God loves us all. Learning to trust in faith requires a bit of wisdom that most often comes with time. Depeche CD's, DVD's,VHS, tapes, albums are plentiful in my collection.

  • @BrianKasher God never existed, or is now dead, or never will exist.

We are no more than intelligent amoebae. We are no more than shit factories. We deserve no more than shit.

We live once, and only die once.

This is real, this is realitry. This is the truth without pretensions of our intelligence, 'special position' or our supposed relationship to an imaginery being.

The sooner we all realise that, the happier we shall all be.

  • @TheIdiot801 We agree on much more than you believe. We both know that there is more. I choose not to ignore it, but to explore and accept. A relationship with God is a one on one deal. No church, no atheist, no drug can change this fact. Happiness is not my or any other amoebae’s measure of productive life. Life offers many riches beyond the immediate rewards of the heathen. Most adults find more to life than temporary endorphin induced pleasure. Ask and you will recieve.

  • @BrianKasher Fascinating. I have no recollection of writing the original comment here. And as I use several email addresses, I have only noticed your reply on 02 Jan.

Please don't presume that heathens or non-believers perceive only immediate rewards; that's just a facile prejudice.

Believe me, it is possible to be a non-believer, moral and theoquizical at the same time.

And 'no', I do not think there is more.

  • @TheIdiot801 What if religion makes some people happy? Can you take it off of them?

  • @fuclcjewtube No, of course not. "Religion is the opiate of the masses" and all that. If it makes them happy and stops the masses from actually understanding the pointlessness of their pathetic existences (mine too), let them believe. But I know and you do too, that it's not true.

  • @TheIdiot801 I know, its true

  • Comment removed

  • @TheIdiot801 here's the problem, life is past what you can see, sense, think, know, imagine, lie, and will be of an existence you will never really comprehend. saying you know something you are not, which is life itself, is like saying you are something you will never be, which is whole. god took your rib to say you will never be complete, you will always be weighed down with this burden to seek completion, a mate, your missing rib. the idea of our human minds being able to realise is a lie.

  • the devil is laughing at humanity's fallen state

  • "Blasphemous Rumours, on the other hand, is a routine slab of gloom in which god is given a severe ticking off." A quote from Neil Tennant at Smash Hits.

  • fucking, fucking, fucking coincidences.

  • Does anybody think that looks like William Defoe at the end? You know the cross dressing cop from Boondock Saints amongst other things

  • Stop the religious debate and enjoy the music!!!

  • musicmagician: Because the the song is about the fact that religion hurts people. Do you understand??? The song is anti-religious. Why can this fucking "god" that you believe in let this happen? What kind of a sick, sadistic god are you worshiping?

  • Are you kidding ? In the 80's this shit rocked There was huge musical influence of this and many other bands in the 1980's. You can't find this on the charts today. Aweful.

  • ... in otherwords, everyone arguing about christians and christianity needs to listen to PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE and let the damn thing be

  • @dalmationham Too true x

  • @dalmationham Religions divide and make superficial differences among people, the most fundamental between believers and non-believers. The bible also states again and again - your final loyalty is to god. What bullshit. Any persons final loyalty should be to humanity.

  • I'm christian but I love this song anyway. a lot of christians dont believe in free will, and some do. Ibelieve in free will - so we are free to make our own choices. we choose to follow or choose to hate him. whatever. its your choice. just make yoru choice and be accountable for it when we get to the other sid.e your chocie on how to prepare

  • Haunting.

  • I didn't know it was possible to screw up a song this good, with a video this bad.

  • scientist

  • Jó volt.

  • @0:53 DONT DO IT!!!

  • I got to admit, it's a good music video

  • A tip of my hat and a raise of my glass to Depeche Mode, whose prose set to music raised multiple generations ...

  • I don't understand the whole debate about religion with the song. Why can't we just love the song? I myself think it is about how whenever something bad happens most of us ask Him 'why me?', and then another something happens and we go 'why couldn't that have happened then? why now?'. I see it as the irony of our lives, nothing religious at all.

  • she slit her wrists the wrong way.

  • dave n.1

  • Taken from Depeche Mode's private lyrics collection:

'18 years old, fell in love with everything, found God, but was still a bit of an idiot. Gazed at a car speeding up to her. She got her arse kncked off the road... for some odd reason the driver was grinning. I don't want to start any blasphemous rumours, but I don't think it's only God that's got a sick sense of humour'..... why waste shitty lyrics when you can use them to make a shitty video?

  • '16 year old slashed her wrist because mummy spanked her for cutting a rose when she was 6 years old. Didn't die, thank God... who would have thought it would have bothered her after all these years'.... <----- original lyrics that were later used as a script for this video.

  • Hell yeah!! they played this version on a Local Public TV station on a show called Are Oh Vee back in the 90s based in Los Angeles .. been looking for this version ..

  • The Best Song for me from Depeche Mode!!!

  • this is disturbing....

  • Welp, even tho I'm Christian I still love this song

  • Thin red line

    Watching it well

    Water so warm

    Comforting

    Tired

    Crimson droplets

    Hardly making a ripple

    Cold yet warm

    Darkness

    End

  • Everyone... SHUT THE FUCK UP. You all sound ignorant. I'm atheist, but if Jesus was alive right now, he would shake his head and cry. Okay, religion aside. Someone give me some info on this video.

  • currently uploading all the doucumentrys from my dvd box sets .. check them out lads .. music for the mases . dm best band to come out of the uk .

  • Is it me, or are videos unnecessary? The music outweighs the picture ten fold.

  • From 6:30 till the end, there are elemental sounds that helps to understand the face of Depeche Mode in this song. Essential for any fan...

  • @DDistorciondesonido that's true! Those sounds are from heaven!

  • And once and for all, this song isn't about religion. It is about people. If you can't make without making a religious remark then please go away................

  • This is one of the best songs ever!

    And I'm a metal-head. =P

  • @KungPerry me to! \m/

  • @KungPerry Don't be so absolutist with music, listen whatever is good, from pop to classic

  • @KungPerry this is way far from metal kiddo.

  • @harleyluvrable - this has some really heavy goth overtones in the slower parts and during the big drumming parts... It's not at all metal... it's something probably much darker/bleaker. Metal is about brutality - goth is about the obliteration of the soul.

  • I am christian and I am not hypocritical notwithstanding I understand that everybody feel the same way, if we supposed to have a God that love us and stuff, why the hell does horrible things happens? Even to the people that have a strong faith in God and everything... It is logical to feel that way -.-

  • @00Victoria00 I agree with you.At least Depeche Mode confirms there is a God in this song. Gods ways surpasses all understanding and only when we make it to heaven he will reveal his divine wisdom.I am also a

Christian but, still listen to this group. This video also reveals the issue of brutal parenting which unfortunately many of us experienced ,and is are main childhood memory.I pity the unloved souls who take there own life ,and hope God will have mercy. God bless you .

  • my only salvation is liberation from the Creator and it's creation.

  • I so agree with the lyrics to this song

  • Let's Stop All The Hate Please!!!!

  • Amazing, Amazing, Song. Depeche Mode, Can't Be Touched

  • "Some great reward",the best of DM

  • I love this song for SO many reasons that i've got the chouros tattooed across the top of my neck and back in a wicked script

  • @stuartgrowns that's kinda pathetic, sorry to say. but more power to you, if that's your thing

  • Comment removed

  • Had to stop reading comments. Why do people have so much hate?

  • My son died in 1987 when this band were one of my favourites. This record personified the way I felt at the time. Still a reminder. Never give up.

  • Accept things, change your belief.

  • Jeez. Glad I didn't make a film about the Gaza Strip, this page would be set on fire while being raped and gouged. Easy, everyone!

  • @Aaephoria

hahaha, look at the angry little child. you WOULD NOT call me names to my face. I GUARANTEE IT, because if you did i would break your face. internet warriors like you make me laugh. tough guys sitting there hiding behind a screen name hahaha. now go back to your basement rebellious child.

  • @bradyischamp As another one said, "You lump white people together and make generalizations. Idiot. You lump all atheists together and make generalizations. Idiot." - That is right. Don't offend us Atheists. ATHEISM is the only way to go - if you are able to leave your cult, your brainwashing, and simply learn to trust your senses. Is it so hard to see things like they are?

  • There's no reasoning with christians. By definition, they do not follow the rules of logic, the wisdom of the ages, or the most basic common sense.

  • @MIDMarcus Well, neither do most of the other religions but if it gives them peace then let them have it and stop wasting YOUR time on them but be pleased with the fact that you know better.

  • @MIDMarcus it seems like there is no reasoning with you just be this statement alone. I'm Catholic and I'm studying to be a physicist. Being a physicist involves tons of logic along with following the foundation that people set before me. You say there is no reasoning but reasoning is what my chosen profession is based on. You're a close-minded person and should expand your thinking horizons. Don't be a douche, just because I may have the same faith as someone doesn't mean I am like that person.

  • @divineblue0 So, you apply logical reasoning to one part of your life, but refuse to do that in the other part? That makes NO sense, logically speaking.

    that's like saying:

I hate young women and girls for getting pregnant out of wedlock, but not when that happens to some girl I really, really like! Like Bristol Palin (who happens to be A LOT like my lilly white ass, so if she drinks, fucks around, blows dope "it's all good ya know")

It's like saying: I hate cheaters, except for David Vitter

  • @MIDMarcus How true. For one, believing in a book that is essentially a 2000-year long game of 'telephone' is downright ludicrous. THE creator, or god, if there is one, is not something that humans can comprehend - let alone reduce to a set of rules, lessons, and controls. Just the fact that a supposed religion is even associated with something as disgustingly corrupt as the Christian church is even more ridiculous. Then there are the holy wars which would put any Muslim ‘Jihad’ to shame..

  • @starmartyr11you're an idiot

  • @divineblue0 Awesome response! And you're a fucking genius.

  • @MIDMarcus as a christian i can also add THEIR OWN BELIEFS...not all but most

  • @MIDMarcus not christians, my friend. It is not faith what makes people stupid, but fanatism.

  • @MIDMarcus

why is it you have to bash on peoples opinions? why not let them have their opinion and you have yours. respect the right to disagree and what not.

  • @talonmaster77 religion is an opinion? I'm sure your Xhristian buddies are glad to hear it.

But why bash on religious folk who think they're christians? Let's see: their warped and immoral, and frankly UNChristian views have lead to the withholding of abortion to thousands of African women, now tens of thousands unwanted babies will grow up in even more poverty than their mothers. BTW: abortion is NOT murder, no matter how much you scream it is.

  • @MIDMarcus yes, i also mean that they do not follow their own common logical sense of what would be a prove about how it all is functioning like a sientist is, when they are besining their belive of whet would be a good enough prove about how it all is functioning, when i mean that the sientific world is also all about what the sientist are beliving about it all, and that if people thinks that the sientific world has nothing to do with what to belive or not, then they have thought worng about it

  • @Neptun1971 so i mean that it all is about what we choose to belive or not belive in, either it is the sientific way of doing it or the non sientific way of doing it, with the religious way of thinking, when i mean that the religious way, is the oldest form of a very simpel sientific way of doing it, when i also mean that in the early time with the starting of the sientific world we knows of today, the sientis were beliving that god existed.

  • @Neptun1971 but i mean that most of the not so weird sientist today, do not belive that god exist, besides that i think that there are people that thinks that the most weird sientist, are the cleverest ones, but that i think is not when it comes to thing about philosophy.

  • @MIDMarcus well put.

  • I'm as prone to drink and melancholy as the next person, but I wouldn't consider myself miserable. Its strange how there is a double standard within the Christian faith. If your one of the devout suddenly your short comings are over looked and at times even exemplified as crucibles of the faith. Meanwhile my similar, purely human flaws are seen as prideful cancers spawned by the absence of belief.

  • Top. Germany´s second best but least known electric popband.

  • @newconcnewconc wait. these guys are from germany? all these years I had always thought they were british

  • @newconcnewconc wait. these guys are from germany? all these years I had always thought they were british

  • I thought this comment box was for saying how good/bad the video was, not for a public debate of religion. Enjoy the music and the rest of your day, no matter what religion you are.

  • Really people who can't relate to this ?????

  • As a child I was a devout catholic and wanted to even be a Nun. But I felt God deserted me when i needed him the most and left the religion. But in my most desperate hours I find myself still praying to him and the powers of Good in the universe and I still have my prayers are answered..

  • @XpertGamingAu None of your prayers have ever been answered and you've no evidence to suggest that, or even the existence of any gods. Is coincidence really so hard to comprehend in a world with trillions of happenings crossing each other at every moment?

Apparently so, these retards keep selling the book and scaring our precious children into anxiety and fear even two thousand years later.

  • Us atheists are so miseable and angry because of the pain and suffering that your childish belief causes. Your fear of death and your desire to believe in some Santa Claus bullshit actually causes small children to have to grow without knowing their own parents. Your ignorant beliefs are the cause of suffering in this world.

  • @MIDMarcus

    wow

the liberal media of the last 40 or so years did an awesome job on you. i really cant blame you though, you are what they target, a weak vulnerable mind. young, immature, naive and impressionable.

    keep drinking the coolaid.

p.s. the catholic church provides more assistance to people in need than any other organization in the whole world.

atheist organizations contribution to the poor? lol

i will continue with my happy life, watching you atheists fester in anger.

  • @bradyischamp

The catholic church assist's people in need?

    excuse me

Read the report from the Irish Government

All the broken children, drowned in sea of violence, both sexual and then just plain ole brutality.

  • i dont belive in God and I more dont believe God answers your prayers or cares about you

Maybe God made the world universe

He doesnt care about YOU little man

  • @scottnsanfran

why are you atheists so miserable and angry?

  • @bradyischamp I'd ask you the same

  • @bradyischamp

Probably because there is a legion of assholes prepared to barbeque anyone who dares admit a lack of belief. I'm perfectly willing to accept that your faith makes you happy, but at the same time you shouldn't be upset that to some one such as myself your belief system appears nightmarish.

  • @56kagogo

yeah those evil christians are going around barbequeing people haha. you progressive liberal fairies are such delicate flowers.

fyi atheists talk about religion far more than christians. it is YOU guys who wont leave christians alone, not the other way around. you angry hateful cowards, now back to your scheduled brainwashing at whatever liberal college you idiots attend..

  • @bradyischamp

I never said Christians were evil, but there is certainly a violent segment of your faith that you choose to conveniently ignore. For instance I've had to work around people who openly desired to murder homosexuals on religious grounds. Also I brought up religion because you did. Further more atheism isn't necessarily tied to any particular political ideology. Lastly having someone call your beliefs into question is not persecution.

  • @56kagogo

its convenient you "white" atheists choose to ignore the violent segment amongst muslims, but bash christians and defend muslims instead. i have no respect for you white idiots.

you work with christians who want to murder homosexuals? liar. do you think muslims like homosexuals? lol

you are full of shit, just like all atheists.

did you just say atheism isnt tied to any particular political ideology? hahaha

dishonest atheist liberal scum, yes you all are, hipocrites.

  • @bradyischamp

Wow, you've been able to deduce that I'm white, liberal, and just love Islam. I wonder where this is going to lead next.

  • @56kagogo

i have broken you down with the honest truth. you know i am correct in everything i have said. you now have nothing to say. maybe your next response is going to be half a sentence? liberal hippie douche

  • @bradyischamp there are rightwing atheists, leftwing atheists. And by the way, you sound really mad. Why is that? because you know we're right. Not all religion, but western white protestants are the cause of much suffering in the world today and in the last 50 years. That they chose to throw breadcrumbs to Africans, where they took away gold and diamonds, doesn't change that, it merely confirms their immorality. Jesus would be ashamed of you haters, you aren't worthy to say his name.

  • @bradyischamp Because we don't have imaginary friends to talk to.

  • Never saw this version. Declared unworthy and shut out. Too little, too late...What a visual.

  • This makes me cry. It could be my daughter.

  • this is their best song imo.

  • Remember kids It's down the road not across the street.

  • Yep, these guys are on to something. God has a sick sense of humor and I am the butt of all of his jokes.

  • does anyone know who directed this?

  • @theecrazyartist

Just read the credits at the end...omg!

  • @ziel4sz why OMG?

  • @RumourdProd because theecrazyartist is STOOOOOOOPID, just like you............does that surprise you?

  • i mean stunningly chilling!

  • very artistic and very sunnningly chilling!

  • absolutely amazing and so true being a science believer I understand this track so well excellent

  • super!!1

  • people dont do this cause they are bored with life.........

  • Chilling every time i see this video.......

  • THIS SONG I DEDICATE TO MY FRIEND MR COSTER

  • god i love this song its soooo good but sad lol

  • 3 años antes d mi nacimiento nacio este exito i oi dia q lo escucho digo q buena rola gracias por la recomendacion

  • On a different note! You know DM have released Promo ONLY remix cds of their albums, does anybody here know how many Sounds Of The Universe Remix cds there are? I know there's a "Glezpik Remixes" cd of SOTU, and a "Mixing The Universe" cd (in black digipaks), plus an official "Remixes"cd (blue jewel case). Would anyone trade a Remix cd ? I want the "Glezpik remixes" of SOTU in exchange for "SOTU Remixes" (the official cd in a blue jewel case, it's very rare!)

  • Just reading the comments: my mate's boyfriend killed himself last week.Personally I think you need a bit of courage to go through with it in the first place. He died in a way where he could've saved himself at any moment. Now THAT'S difficult.Fighting the urge against your body.Anyway,he was a fucking prick for it.The whole point was to make his poor girlfriend(my mate) feel guilty.Cunt.Totally unfair on her,he deserves to be forgotten.I hope his god IS laughing! "Haha! You IDIOT!"

  • not to sound totally dark, but this is one of my fave songs. :O

  • One of the best depeche Mode songs ever, with STripped and Shake The Disease. DArk Dark Dark. Incredible! Great video. Did they authorize this or is it a student film?? It's much better than the one on the Live form Hamburg concert tape.
