Stephen Lawrence "Steve" Winwood (born 12 May 1948) is an English songwriter and musician whose genres include blue-eyed soul, R&B, rock, blues-rock, pop-rock, and jazz. A multi-instrumentalist, he plays the piano, electric organ, synthesizers, bass, drums, guitar, mandolin, violin and other strings. A star performer for nearly fifty years, he has also done notable work as a producer.
..saw them open for the Dead in Vegas back in the late 90's, all 3 nights, front row, frying on acid and high as the sky. Ahh-MAZING. Steve Winwood blew my skull-cap wide open each night: the most talented multi-instrumentalist / musician-singer alive today, bar none: a top-shelf singer, guitarist, organist, pianist: I mean, he did and does it all folks and with such class.
@mjw9363: Completely understandable. I suspect when someone excels at one thing we usually assume they can't do the same at others. Stevie is clearly does both very well.
btw, if you'd like see him do it again about 40 years later, check out this performance with none other than Eric Clapton:
Thanks!! Memories fro ARK CENTENIAL, EAST DETROT, MI getting stoned while cleaning the bowling lanes and puffing JAH, as well as taking a bowling ball from lane 3 over to lane 32. So much fun and good music during that era. Not the same now.
Thank GOD I got to see Jerry before the Dead Died! It was w/ a Traffic intro/ Featuring Stevie Winwood. The crowd went totally Insane! Buckeye Lake Music Center;Ohio.
How could his pupils possibly be that large while he's standing in center stage-lights. Probably a hallucinogen. Not judging, just saying. (It probably made the music better.)
This is much clearer than the other one of this here, thanks. Great song. I guess Jim Capaldi had some physical issue that he couldn't play drums. He's making the most of the tambourine though. (:
Poor Mr. Fantasy, everyone wants him to play a tune that makes them happy & for him to be the humorous clown even if he "had a straight mind", i.e. serious. Sort of like, "If I don't act this way, you won't like me." But he shouldn't be sad since he had success & we've known him all these years, yes.
@Grendelmonster8u ....Hey you like Traffic...I like Traffic..I bought "Low Spark of High Heel Boys' Vinyl LP when it first came out...Love the band since...Steve Winwood...I was so glad when he hit big solo....Keep it up G. Monster!!!

One could argue Steve Winwood is the most talented musician to come out of the 60's. He's that good.
