it should but it also depends on a lot of things, like how effective is your reflector, how close is it to the tank, fertilizer,co2, what substrate you use etc. Obviously you need a light meant for aquarium use and a cover for your tank for safety reasons. (if your light is sitting on your tank lid)
if there's too much i would have to tear it down :(
If it's just a little bit then i can manually remove them. Amano shrimp/otocynclus cats/siamese algae eaters are a few that can help keep algae to a manageable level. Of course your dosing of fertilizer and lights affect it the most.
direct sunlight should be avoided and you should dose fertilizer a little bit every waterchange along with a source of co2, that should balance things out and lessen algae. light should be around 8-9 hours daily. Can you give me your tank specs.
Cube was from Zellers, it was a cube vase but i was lucky i found one with very similar look of ADA tank, the rest have very thick glass. Think it was around $12.00
It probably won't grow at all. The rule of 3 watts per gallon doesn't seem to apply to tanks smaller than 10 gallons, in fact you need more especially for light demanding plants like dwarf hairgrass.
your tank is "cycling" and should clear up in a few days, just dont forget to do the waterchanges about 1/4 to half tank every other day should be okay. Tiger shrimp? Is that the big ones? If it's small then 2-4 should be the max.
i just changed the water when i recorded it (pearling of plants or oxygen being emmited by the plants), but i know what you mean, those tiny white shrimp looking things which i have no clue as to what its name is but seem harmless in my 30 gallon tank.
well I'm planning to put up a 30L nano cube complete plus with monoselium tenerum pellia java-moss and dwarf hair grass or Fissidens splachnobryoides
to Fissidens splachnobryoides:
nearly everyone I've asked said that this moss failed to grow in his tank! I really like it because it is so pretty but I don't want to waste money on it when it fails -.-
to dwarf hair grass:
I'm not planning on giving extra co2 to it!
will it grow or will it fail right at the beginning?
No experience with that moss and lots of mixed reviews-some say emersed but not submerged, some say its ok submerged. If you can get a hold of a small portion and try it out, that might be the way to go.
No experience with marine set up, but MH is usually what they use for live corals i believe. In a planted tank, you can go with compact fluorescent or T5 high output fluorescent, MH is pricey but why not if you can afford it.
it can but it depends if you have enough light,co2 and fertilizer plus it takes (for me) 3 months to cover my entire 30 gallon with just 4 pots of dwarf hairgrass, so ya it can be done. just be patient with it and spread it evenly of course so it can cover more of the tank.
they wouldnt order it for you, i mean the store? Try planted tank forums, members usually sell or swap plants....who knows there could be someone close by thats willing to sell or give you clippings for free.
true, when I was using collected plants I was finding damselfly larvae in my tank for months. I still have small snails, I forgot the species, but they seem harmless.
I love shrimps, mine are sneaky though, they used to steal food tablets from my corydoras, run away with them in their "arms" then hide on some higher location
that video is so relaxing and the shrimp is so nice =) and what is this for a relaxing music? where can i listen to a longer version of thar relaxing music?? beautyful
right here on youtube, when you edit your vid, you'll find audio tracks that you can swap for your video. Forgot what the title is but i think its under instrumental category.

java moss can adhere better to rocks/driftwood when you tie it with a very thin thread rather than using it as a foreground on the gravel. You can try hairgrass but u need lots of light for it and CO2 then fertilize it to make it spread faster. Join an aquascaping forum and you will learn tons of things...like algae :(
u dont;P no really, the poo will become sort of fertilizer for the plants. U can vacuum it carefully but its not worth it. You wont even see the fish poo if your tank is jampacked with aquatic plants.
I found a nano 1.5 gal tank and I'm liking it! I put 3 dino's in there (I think) It's a small neon tropical fish, with 2 clusters of Amazon sword plants... Oh, and a snail :( They wil probably eat my plants... Anyway, will the fish fert my plants? Or do I need to do it myself? And what lighting should I use? The plants are small, so I've also been thinking about a small portion of riccia or java to cover little "patches" on the sub. Give me some feed back! Cool tank BTW, hope it was fun making.
in a fish only tank, the nitrites and nitrates level build up faster, in a heavily planted tank the nitrogen gets used up by plants (not quick enough) but most aquascapers(planted tank enthusiasts) change half their tank water at least once a week and dont overstock their tanks with big fish. A dozen small schooling fish in a heavily planted 10 gallon tank aint overstocking believe it or not
what kind of snail?, they proliferate quickly and can be a nuisance. I would be careful in fertilizing such a small tank, u could easily overfertilize and allow algae to grow quicker. Yes, its better to put more plants like java fern (dwarf species) or java moss in a small tank, then try and get some power compact lighting meant for aquarium (pricey). U could try a desk lamp with compact fluorescent and stick with low light plants like java fern/java moss or anubias barteri var. nana.
because i've tried it too...it's been 2 month, and there's only a few runners..so i decided to rescape, and use Glosso [since it faster..haha]. But i'm still curious about Parvula, maybe next time.
m presurised c02 capsule was half full and i left it near my lighting. it overheater and its exploded booooom ! it sounded like somebody set a nuclear bomb of in london !
Wow man this cube is amazing, but i've a question, what is it name of the grass, and carries about the same.. (excuseme my ingles but i'm from México), I hope you can help me... thanks and nice cube
High light, high co2, daily dose of fertilizer, tho this particular tank was inside a 30 gallon tank with 220 watts power compact lighting. Sorry i never took detailed water parameters cuz this wasnt gonna be a contet entry.
Around 3 months but you must plant as many as you can to make it spread faster! This nano was inside my 30 gallon due to the fact that i dont have a strong enough light for a small tank! Too bad i have to dismantle it since the 30 gallon hairgrass has spread almost the entire length of my 30 gallon.
soda bottle, sugar, yeast packet. I drill a hole in the top of the soda bottle and put airline tubing in that and seal it up. Then mix water/sugar and pour it in the bottle then add the yeast. Shake it up and in a little while it will make co2.
pour 1 teaspoon yeast into bottle, no need to shake it up. Depending on how many cups of sugar you put(usually 1-2 cups is enough) it might take 2 to 24 hours b4 you see any co2 bubbles. Once you go pressurized co2 tho, you'll never go back to the yeast method.
thats a perfect little world for that little guy

Where did u get the tank at? And do you use any filtration besides the plants?
deathminejr 1 year ago
@deathminejr it's a glass vase from Zellers. No filter, just waterchange half tank per day.
ancientpimp 1 year ago
Wow! Perfect work!
Is it CO2 or O2 bubbles float around?
igorKanshyn 1 year ago
@igorKanshyn i doubt it's co2, it's hard to make dwarf hairgrass to pearl but it is possible.
ancientpimp 1 year ago
@ancientpimp If you add co2 into your tank, co2 bubbles leave diffuser and float around the tank.
You right, pearling is not for hairgrass :)

@ancientpimp When they pearl, they release O2 as they take in CO2.

I'm starting a DIY CO2 generator with that yeast thing.
But I realy want to start a 10-20 litre cube (those dennerle nano cube's). Cute stuff.
My tank at the moment is 5 gallon (20litre).
With Wistera and dwarf hairgrass.
4 cardinals.
I don't know my Ph, etc... :/
I think I need to give it lil less light. I give it for over 10 hours a day. (2 bulbs, 50w and 30w, = desklamp, DIY also :) )
